I'm looking for a program where I can make exact copies of CD's that I currently own. I had RecordNow already installed on my computer when I bought it and I used it a lot. It started acting funny a few months back, so I upgraded to their newest version for $50 and that didn't work on my computer for some reason. My computer is only a few years old, so I'm not sure what the problem was. Anyways, all I had to do (with RecordNow) was pop a disc inside of one drive and pop the other disc inside of the another drive and then press Exact Copy (or whatever). I'm looking for something simple like this. I know their are a lot of programs out there, but I'd like to pass over the bullcrap and head towards the recommended programs.

The reason I need this is because whenever I buy a new CD, I never use that CD in fear of it scratching up and having to rebuy it over and over again. So I make a copy and put the original aside until I screw up the copy enough to where I have to make another copy. This is important because I have new CDs that I NEED to listen to!

I like toast myself... it will make exact dupes of cd's and dvds... will also convert home movies into a format for burning onto cds as vcds

I love Toast too, but it's Mac only. The Roxio Media Center for Windows however, is shit. Shit, shit, shit. Nero is the God-send on the PC side of things.
 
I'd have to agree with Nero. Except for certain image files, which require Alcohol 120.
 
This won't burn CD's per se but it will give you the uncompressed wav file which you can use nero or whatever other cd burning program that will take wavs. And best of all, it's free :D

Maximum PC magazine has nothing but praise for this program and they are usually on the ball.
 
Nero Express, like everyone has been saying. Should probably be cheap (under $10 or free) somewhere, but idk where, it came with my burner.

CDex is a good free program for extracting songs from CD and converting between .wav and .mp3 files, but I'm pretty sure Windows XP already has something to extract songs anyway, I just didn't know it at the time and got hooked on using this program.
 
I'm going to tell you one thing in life TSD that you must abide by and that is whatever you do, never, never, and I mean never, install Roxio ever. Roxio is shit, plain and simple. Roxio will give you headaches and screw up your drives and computer and is a pain in the ass to use. Recordnow isn't too bad IMO, but the Godsend to PCs is Nero like others have mention. Nero is simply the best. Best interface, easy to use, clean, doesn't fuck up when used. There isn't enough I can say on Nero.

Most places have it for about $100 though. I got my copy for $66 plus 2 mail in rebates at Fry's making it $20 whenever they decide to show up. Still, $66 versus $100 is a way better deal.
 
I do the same thing with CD's. The program i use most of the time is CloneCD, which ive had for years. Works great, and is very simple.

Wouldnt be surprised if its free or easy to find.
 
I agree that Nero is the best for windows based systems. You may want to visit techbargains.com, they sometimes list sites which sell Nero for cheap.
