Hey guys,

I'm looking for a cheap HDTV around the price of $400-500. Can anyone point me towards a good deal?

Thanks!

EDIT: I found this at best buy. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...mcat31800050031&type=product&id=1099396991085

Is that a good deal? I'm looking for one with Maximum resolution of 1080i.

EDIT: I found another one at circuit city. A little over my budget, but maybe it's just worth it. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Pana...sem/rpsm/oid/120400/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
Anyone want to give any input on this TV?

If you look at the 26" Toshiba that BB carries they sometimes have issues recognizing the XBox. I had trouble with 2 Toshiba LCD tvs and my brother had trouble with the 26" tube tv. Just a little heads up.

Are you worried about having to buy a HD tuner later on. If you buy a HDTV that is capable then you will have to buy a digital turner later on. I would look for a tv that is HD ready.

You mean built in. Ready means all you need is to add a tuner.

Does the panasonic convert 720p to 1080i?

I have know idea what i'm talking about really. All I know is that I want an HDTV so I can play the XBOX 360 at it's best. Would I be able to with that panasonic TV?

Yes, since it can display 1080i/480p, the xbox360 will have 1080i/720p. But im not sure if it will convert 720p to 1080i as few crts do. And also, not sure if it will display in widescreen(if you want that)
Was looking at reviews at amazon, and "I am keeping this TV as in HDTV mode the picture quality is excellent! in 1080i mode. It upconverts all signals to 1080 mode (Frequency doubling)." I guess that a yes.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00026WRFI/102-3530185-0482533?v=glance

Id say see if they have this at display at cc, or wait for some CAG that knows more about hdtvs.

Just don't let any salesman tell you that 480p is High Definition. 480P is ENHANCED DEFINTION. There is a HUGE picture difference between the two. Whatever you buy as long as it's 1080i or 720p, or both, you're good to go. 1080i shows more details but 720p is usually better for faster moving programs like sports. Just make sure it is 1080i or 720p and you won't have any problems.

I would go for that panasonic linked earlier. Ive had really good luck with them, and for a bit cheaper than other brands offer (as long as it has everything you would want).

Check your local Circuit City stores to see if they are open boxing the Samsung TXP2675WHD. From my understanding its out of production now which means that stores will be selling off the display model for a decent markdown. I got mine for $429.96 which is very good considering it has a built in HD tuner. And yes its 16:9 Widescreen... and it looks damn stunning too. :D

YMMV on the price tho, but you never know what kind of deal you'll get.

Here's a picture I took quickly of my new TV.

Actually it took me all of 30 seconds as that spot is very early on the DVD ("TNA Wrestling Nevermore: The Best Of Raven").

Hey guys, Ive seen a few threads here about HDTVs and I've never seen this mentioned so I figured I would bring it up- according to this article there's a latency caused from up-conversion of HD signals which could be noticable for gaming. In other words, a HDTV that natively supports 720p and 1080i would be more desirable for gaming.

Found the article about it:

Anyone know anything about this?

I actually had this happen to me on a friends HD tv, so we moved to a different tv.

I recommend the WD-62825 Mitsubishi DLP 62 inch- this is what I use to play my video games on and it's great! (Does support 1080i). It only set me back around $3,700

Everyone ripped on me on this board for getting a HDTV in standard 4:3 format at walmart for $280 but if you saw my bedroom you would realize that a ws tv is not possible unless I lose my bed or computer... Wide Screen is way better!!!! But, space is good!

They make small WS tvs... you don't have to buy a 60 inch monster.

Well that’s a nice TV, but you kind of want 720p for games, which that TV does not do.

SO keep looking. Go to the actually circuit city store, and see if you can bargain the display model. Why does circuit city always look like its going out of business? Maybe that’s what inspires my bargaining there...

As far as I know there aren't many, if any at all, CRT HDTV's that can do 720p, I doubt its that big a deal to someone like me who probably can't tell the difference. I doubt I'd really be able to distinguish a true 720p signal from an upconverted 1080i signal. I'm waiting on a $75 gift card from Best Buy that I got from signing up with my Comcast internet with them. If I had that right now I'd be over there pricematching and buying that Panasonic 27".

The problem with 720p gaming is that all the tvs that have 720p have a delay and shitty gray scale. Down with anything that is not CRT at least untill the $2K (overpriced I can hang my tv on the wall like a Rembrandt but don't look 1/2 as vibrant as a tube) sets catch up with CRT :whistle2:#

Wal-Mart has a 30" Widescreen Sanyo and the picture on it looks amazing. Retails for about $500 I believe, anybody know of any places to find one like that cheaper, or used even? I've checked eBay and they never seem to have that great a selection of HDTV's especially local ones.

I just saw 2 different widescreen lcd hdtvs in my local fry's ad. One is 30"($750) the other is 32" ($850+). Do you think those are good deals?

That statement is full of crap. My very reasonably priced WD-62825 62 Inch Mitsubishi DLP does not have any delay at all when in 720P- Soul Caliber runs great!

Just say NO to Phillips. Subpar quality, most sets are misaligned badly from the ones I have seen, etc etc etc.... spend a little more and get Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, Hitachi. But just say no to Phillips.

I've heard mixed reports on those Philips outlet TVs. Personally, I've never been a big fan of Philips products but some people have gotten some nice TVs considering the price. On the other hand, there have been many reports of those TVs being DOA or breaking shortly after receiving them, or being defective the whole time. From what I understand, Philips will have it repaired but it is a major hassle to deal with them.

Also I wish they would not call it upconversion. 720p > 1080i it should be down conversion.

There are latency issues with the conversion. You want a tv that can do 720p natively... otherwise you are going to have to switch to 480p.

The delay is caused because the TV does not support 720p natively. It is "up converting" the signal down to 1080i.

"Up converting" or not ALL Plasma, LCD and DLP panels have " Video Lag." In a lot of games you wont notice it but play Madden (kicking meter) or a game like Hot Shots Golf and you will notice to lag. This has nothing to do with the HD just "video latency." In the last year video lag with plasma, LCD and DLP is much shorter then it was in the past but it is still noticeable gaming but not as good as CRT for gaming.

Just google 'WD-62825 video lag' and see what you find ;)

And a FWI never say I am full of crap with out doing your research first but I can say with confidence "that your statement is full of crap." You may have never noticed the lag but believe me you get video lag.
