If anyone can help me find a quality HDTV around roughly 30 inches and flat screen preferred as well as a good surround sound system would be great. I'm trying to get both under $300.

A) You might find something along those lines, just not fully functional.
B) If you were planning on being able to actually use these items, go get yourself a few guns at a pawn shop, round up some friends, and hit the nearest best buy as soon as it opens. From my experiences with the store's staff, they're likely to just stare at you blankly and ask for your receipt on the way out.
damn bunch of assholes here i guess... i guess im so ignorant on my own subject tell me whats so funny..
A. calling us all assholes is not a good way to garner favor or help.
B. You are not going to ever find a flat screen 30"+ HDTV for $300 or less. And you are not going to find a "good" surround sound for $300 or less. With amazing deals you may be able to find the TV for $600 and the surround sound for $500. Now if you're talking flat-panel and not flat-screen.. well hell, then you're waaaaaay off.
hmm well ive seen some ads in CC for hdtvs around 27 inches that were flat screen about $230s or so... thats why i didnt think this was ridiculous

im clueless about surround sound though
It seems from your posts that your just clueless period.
There's a difference between flat screen and HDTV, a big difference.
Google around for information between types of TVs, or sometimes CC or BB's site has a limited amount of information regarding the differences.
i understand the diff between flat screen and hdtv
You obviously dont. Theres no way that you saw a flat screen HDTV at bestbuy for $270. Just do what the previous poster said and go do some research on tv's, and you'll soon find out that not all Tv's are created equal (or HD).
advent has a 27 inch tv that best buy will advertise from time to time that can be like 450 but I think that is the lowest you will find, if you have a radio shack near you, they have an rca 600 w 5.1 surround sound for like 3/350
