Looking for a good gaming keyboard.
I don't know if it's on sale, but I know the MERC keyboard is the best out there.
Amazon doesn't even have it in stock, so it seems really low-profile.

saitek? one on amazon i saw for like $20
a friend has one. i personally dont like it, but it has lights (oooo).

Here's a link to the MERC stealth edition. They stopped making the original Merc when they started making stealth.

It's the best gamer keyboard on the market for right-handed people.

Large WASD keys
28 programable keys around the hand in comfortable locations
Hotkeys 1-11 are within reach, you don't have to drag your hand away from WASD to hit the 9 button to use an ability or switch to a weapon.
It automatically downloads key configurations based on the game you're playing to make all the buttons within reach.

The saitek cyborg is just a normal keyboard with metal WASD, arrow, and space key and some lights. It can program in different game configurations, but you have to do it manually, and I think it can only store 12.

The MERC is the same price and has an entire portion of the keyboard on the left for pure gaming, and it can remember as many games as your hard-drive can remember.(Something like 1kb per game profile)

Currently I have over 1,000 games saved onto my hard drive for my MERC.

You should really look into it.

It's just awesome, I've had mine for about 2 years.

Is the side thing detachable? I have a pretty small desk space.

Also, my price range was around 50$. If I find something really nice, I could go over, but I'm pretty hesitant.

On the full merc model it is NOT detachable, BUT, they do sell just the gaming pad. It plugs into a USB port and gives you all the features of the full MERC board, but it's a seperate unit. Link here:

And this only runs around $30. Sounds perfect for you.

I'm looking for a full keyboard as I'm running with a stock dell, and it's deteriorating. Occasional sticky keys and such.

This keyboard is 3.66 sharpies wide.

(Couldn't find my ruler.) But I guess most people have a normal sized sharpie somewhere.

I use a G11 and a Nostromo n52. Almost all of the top guns in my clan use a n52. Unfortunately they don't make the n52 any more. They do make a newer version, the Nostromo n52te which is the same thing but it costs about $65, overpriced in my opinion. If you could find a n52 off of ebay or something for cheap thats the way I'd go.

Thanks man, glad to hear from an n52 user. I had been looking in to it, and I may just grab one. I would still like a good keyboard though, because as I said, mine's on my last legs.

Protip: If it says Ideazon, stay the fuck away from it. Act as though it is a rat that has the plague, kill then burn.

Excluding the Merc obviously. Those pre-made layouts are garbage though.
I've never used the Fang before, but I know the Merc is top class.

I'm going to say including the Merc.

Stay the fuck away from any overpriced lump of defective plastic that company makes. Their support is complete ass. Raw, rank, dead, rotting ass. Their products are shoddy at best. Low quality, poor driver support, overpriced lumps of plastic. This is someone who has bought from them in the past. Go buy a cheap Saitek or something.
The G15 is $80 bucks on amazon right now. From what I've read in PC Gamer and several other pc gaming mags that one is pretty top grade. I've been to broke to try it myself but if you don't want to spend that much money the G11 (as DariusWIND suggested) is $56 on amazon.

Hope this helps.
I'm not made of money, so the G15 is out of my league, but that G11 is looking tasty. How are the re programmable keys and back light on the G11? Does it have good software? How easy is it to get used to Ctrl key not being in the bottom left?

So you've owned and used the Merc? I've used mine for going on 3 years now flawlessly.

But I'm guessing you've owned and used one at least 6 months or else you wouldn't make the blind accusation that it's "Plastic garbage."

All these keyboard with reprogrammable buttons are what is trash. It's just a normal keyboard with the same cramped keys in ridiculous spots for various games. So what if one has lights, it's still WASD in the SAME spot, on ANY keyboard. It makes no difference.

What kind of gaming do you do?

For me, really, I have PC gamed semi-competitively (clan tournaments and such) for years and I just use a standard keyboard.

Some competitive Team Fortress 2, mainly FPS's. Standard keyboard would be fine, I just figured I'd splurge for something with back lighting and reprogrammable keys, as well as anti-ghosting and quick response times.

I don't really know, I was suggesting keyboards that I've heard are good but haven't had money to buy myself. From what I see in most reviews the G11 is a fairly good keyboard. I might actually buy it at this price. I wish I'd have bought one sooner but all the deals on games this year have cleaned me out for the most part. At this price though it's almost as cheap as a game. The Crtl key looks like it's still towards the left so not to big a deal, you could use one of the reprogamable keys if it's too hard to adjust. As for the backlight that's sorta a subjective call anyway, but if it's anything like the G15 it'll be good. I go to a cyber cafe that has G15's and the backlight on them rock. When are you looking at your fingers when gaming though?

That's usually for typing, while I don't HAVE to look at my fingers while I type, it increases my GWAM by ~30. As for you saying it's as much as a game, that's just my problem. These keyboards are so damn expensive. I might just wait for the Razer Arctosa to be released, I wish they'd give a date.

I just bought the Razor Arctosa. It's the same as the lycosa, but for 30 dollars less it cuts the backlight as well as a few other chachkeys. Anyone else use this keyboard? It looks sexy as hell, I just hope it works alright. It's gotten some pretty good reviews, but it's really new.

I won an n52te last year at ces from belkin (who makes the new ones). I was skeptical when I first got it, but I really love this thing. the comfort is great, the plug and play is awesome (i use it on my laptop and desktop) i just wish they added one more column of buttons and it would have been perfect. (i use the thumb dpad for weapons and the button is perfect for voicechat)

I also use a g15, and i love this thing as well. backlite keys spoils me, I have trouble typing on anything else in the dark. I use the lcd and media keys all the time. I use the usb ports to plug in game controllers and what not. I have an original g15 so i have 18 keys on 3 profiles which is great for rpgs and strategy games. I'm usually using my n52te for any shooters anyway. I highly recommend the g15, although I'm also a big fan of anything razer. I've never actually owned a razer keyboard but I've liked the few I've used (not sure which ones was a friend of mines)

If you can find an n52te on sale pick it up and give yourself a little time to get use to it (weapons on my thumb took me a few days). like someone else said, its msrp is pretty high but the device is very nice.

other than that the g15 is amazing, and razer makes great keyboard. If you have a fry's near you, go down there and use some of the keyboards before you decide what you want to purchase.

the g11 looks to be the exact same thing as my g15 just without the lcd, and if that is the case and it uses the same software, programing keys is real simple. I had a little trouble with profiles launching when i set and exe to run steam games but i got it working with a little patience and exe hunting.

I also have a friend who bought a microsoft gaming keyboard, can't remember which one at the moment(reclusa maybe) but he really likes it. and the new sidewinder keyboard looks really cool. (http://gizmodo.com/5046029/lightning-review-microsoft-sidewinder-x6-gaming-keyboard)

don't feel bad about putting money into a keyboard, it gets plenty of daily use, and for me at least I've used this g15 for preactically every day for the last 3 or 4 years. $80 for 4+ years of daily use is pretty good in my book.

hope some of this information was useful, good luck.

edit: seems my post was a few hours too late, hope its useful to someone :)
