Hey everyone. I was in the market for a LCD between 700-800.00 before I go back to college. I'm going to have an apartment on campus this year, and feel a LCD would be perfect (Especially so I don't have to lug a CRT home on vacation and such)

I'd like the TV to be about 32 inches, and I want to do a lot of research before I purchase anything (I want it to last 5 years or so). I'm also not sure when the best deals are for TVs so....suggest away!
Damn that's sexy...is the max res 720P though?
It goes to 1080p but you need HDMI Port

Nice! So my PS3 could display in 1080P...it has perfect reviews...I'm pretty much sold on this.

Does Amazon usually have this up, or is this a limited sale?

I don't know, I just found it.

That TV does not do 1080p. It can accept 1080p signals and scale them to 720p.

I'd highly recommend looking at a 32" Sharp Aquos.

Tried a couple before it (Sony and Phillips) and the Sharp was superior. (Don't have the 32", but I've only heard good things about it)

CostCo Had one of those listed, but this Toshiba seems better.

Yea, you're right. I got this from one of the reviews

"this HDTV will display all formats 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. However, it only receives 1080p when connected via a HDMI port"

I'd back the Aquos too... most award winning LCD technology I believe (but I think Bravia's are gaining steam fast now) so Sharp has the experience in the field and image quality won't be an issue.

Here's Apossum's TV but brand new.

I got my Aquos from that site and I couldn't have been happier. I have the LC-32D43U that I picked up from BuyDig for $780 in May. This is mine:
http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-Aquos-L...5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1186529985&sr=1-1

But the Toshiba should be solid... 5 stars with 20 reviews is damn amazing, everything looks great on that set.:)
Yea but it's refurbished :/

For 70.00 more I can get the Toshiba new.
recertified-- someone didn't want it for some reason other than a technical problem and sent it back. I guess if you have $800 to spend, you could get a better TV. but you wouldn't be disappointed with this one at all ;)

also, the Toshiba has an 8ms response time vs. the Sharp's 6ms response time. otoh, you don't get a full warranty with the Sharp.

Whoa, pass on the new one! that's the LC-32D40U. Mine is the LC32D41U, which is the fixed version of the 40U. Apparently Sharp tried outsourcing the manufacturing job of the 40U to some generic place and the result was a lot of crap TVs-- bad picture and technical problems, and a lot of DOA tvs.

The 41U was manufactured by Sharp with a lot of quality control in place so they wouldn't have a repeat-- the 40U killed a lot of people's confidence in Sharp, lots were calling for a recall, so the 41U was the "we're sorry" TV ;)

Whoops, my bad. Fix'ed.

What phlips model did you try?

no problem. he should go with the one you bought if he has $800. I'm sure that TV is nothing short of pure awesome.

Yeah, it's damn nice especially if he plans to use it with a PS3. The glossy black finish on the TV will go well with the PS3.

Looking over the two I honestly can't say why you shouldn't go for the Toshiba... it's cheaper and has 1 more HDMI input than the Sharp. Picture quality is something we won't know about but... I highly doubt it'll be that big of a difference (if any at all).

Out puts to 480i,480p,720p, and 1080i.I dont think this television does 1080p.

Yea, saving 50.00 is a big plus.

My parents might not be giving me 300.00 (which I think is a steal for my 30' Samsung Slimfit) until January. Thus, I'm going to be taking an extra 300.00 "hit" for a little while. Having the extra 50.00 would be perfect.

I just hope the deal stays up for a little while. I need some time to think this over. I also wish a B&M store sold it for that price.

It seems CC sells it for 900.00

I can picture it now...My PS3 will be hooked up through HDMI, 360 through VGA and Wii through Component

Yeah, B&M prices suck. They're selling my TV for 2x as what Amazon is charging for it.

That Westinghouse seems to be getting great reviews. Yea it only has one HDMI, but it does have a couple DVI ports, does 1080P and is 5 inches bigger.

So...what's the catch? Why is it so cheap on Ecost?

It is a recertified model. The las two words in parenthesis under the blue title of the TV says, "(Manufacturer Recertified)"

Ah, thank you for that. Not sure how I missed it. Looks like I'm sticking with the Toshiba then unless someone can suggest something better.

Nice. Glad you like it. The only other recommendation that I have for you is that you grab a copy of Digital Video Essentials and get that shit calibrated. Admittedly, it takes a little while to learn how to use the disc right, but when you get your TV calibrated, it looks much, much better.

Well, I was talking to Chac on aim, and he made some good points in that if I want this to last long term, might as well go for a really great brand over a good one ;)

I'm looking at that exact model sharp. Is it worth paying tax to get it at costco or should I order from amazon?

It's still $799 in store at costco right?

That's the regular Costco price for it. I'm looking towards getting that same model also. Just need to save up the cash for it.
It's def worth the tax, because CostCo covers you for 2 years on-top of the manufacture's warranty.
Where are you getting that from? Costco has a ninety day return policy on tvs and some other electronics, and two years on everything else. They don't have offer any kind of warranty other than that. Unless I'm mistaken.
