It's about time for me to start looking for a new old car. I think I actually want something decent as I have some money to spend (around 10,000). Just pricing right now, does anyone have any websites or good places I can begin to look? If it helps, I'm in northern New Jersey.

Go to some of the dealer auctions in PA. You can usually find a used car dealer in your neighborhood that is willing to take you, provided you throw them 2 or 3 hundred. But it is YMMV. Good luck.

I'll second AutoTrader. Definately provided me some good stuff last year when I was in the market for a new (to me) car, especially in the central jersey area. You can probably find anything you want.

I got a brand new nissan frontier for 14,500. If you like trucks that is. Im on the page of a new car is better. There is a lot of maintance that goes into a used car. Tires, general maintanance, timing belts, so when all is said and done, you dont save that much buying used. Just haggle! NEVER pay what the sticker says. Do your research, AND NEVER AGREE TO ANY ADDITIONAL FEES. My nissan dealer wanted me to pay a $400 advertising fee. I was like no. They were like its mandatory, I was like no. There were like ok.

I was in the same dillemma (more like I am in the same dillemma). You are near new york so the prices will be better.

People will slam me but I'll say it anyway.

You can pick up a certified dodge neon or stratus sxt for a little over 10k and it includes a warranty over 5 years and mileage is under 20k. the neon sucks but it's cheap and guaranteed for a while which is less risky. Stratus isn't that bad for the money either.

Good cars under 10k to look for: Acura Integra (under 40k). Honda accord or civic (under 40k). ford focus svt (under 40k). toyota camry solara (under 50k). Toyota corolla (under 40k),.

Stick with japanese or you might get taken. You may find a civic si (newer) for about 12k (under 50k miles) it's a great car for the price and a blast to drive.

I however will have to take the bus...

Yeah look out for those 300 buck "pin-striping" fees on those subarus...

Yeah I definetly want a pin-stripe on my brand new subaru wrx.

ALSO, tell them you want their advertising crap removed (the company graphics on the rear), you're not paying money to be an advertisement.

It's funny you say that. My friend (who is a TPIR nut) went and got on the show and won a $47,000 Cadillac.

I don't know where you are looking but used Camry Solaras go for way more than $10k where I am.

Yes you are right, I was mistaken with the mileage. Under 50k a used solara would be about 14k (given the msrp new at 22k). Anyway it is reasonable to find a used solara with 100,000 miles at under 10k.
