Here's the card I bought last week and the one I would recommend:

eVGA 6600 GT $175 - $20 rebate = $155

If you're willing to spend a little more there's the BFG 6600 GT OC that's over clocked out the box for about $50 more but increase in performance wasn't worth it for me.

For about $150 more you can go to the eVGA 6800 GT but again, the increase in performance wasn't enough for me to buy in.

If you're looking for top of the line there's the 6800 Ultras w/ 512 mb for around $800 =)

I know I've only mentioned Nvidia cards in this post; comparing price vs performance it seems they've won the current round vs ATI. Here are some good charts that I used when looking for my card from Tom's Hardware Guide.

oh man... you're going to be dissapointed. Way to take the advice that you posted to receive and then didn't even consider any of it. Tisk tisk.

I work @ staples and we had 3 ati radeon cards go on clearance 1 was a pci and two were agp... ymmv

atleast you chose an nvidia card ...wise choice...

but for a little more i think the 9800 ati above posted would of been a good deal
