This is what I am looking for an mp3 player under 100 bucks

256-512mb memory (unless it can be expanded to 512 cheaply from say a cheap 64mb player)
Good sound quality
Plug and play (can put right into USB port and copy files w/out installing bloatware!)
small size unless bigger makes it cheaper (as long as it fits in my pocket, I'm a-ok! :D )

Was looking at Iriver, but the only downer that you only get 256mb for 100 dollars vs others that you get 512 for the same price (and it wasn't expandable with cards)

I'd only take an I-River if i can find it under $100 and its 512mb.

If you feel you can trust the people there, check out eBay. My dad picked up an RCA Lyra with 128MB Flash and a SD slot for about $30, the only catch was that it had no OS on it, so he had to go to the Lyra website and flash it himself. Took less than half an hour to do and he's had no problems since.
 
Not bad, but do you have to install the software or can you drag-and-drop?

Prefer to be able to walk in a store and find a gem :razz:
 
I believe you can drag and drop, Windows XP recognizes as another drive, so you can even store data files on it in a pinch. I think my dad also uses Musicmatch with it to encode into MP3Pro, which this player will read. If you haven't heard of it, it supposedly retains the same quality at lower bitrates so you can hold more music.
 
I don't know if you'd be interested, but I have a used one I'm selling RCA Lyra 128MB - very small - pics in the thread linked in my Sig ;)

Thats a pretty good deal - I've never had any troubles with San Disc stuff myself - I have a 256 Flash Drive Secure thats lasted me through 2 years of rough treatment.

Bad things I didn't like about looking at this:
No screen
Have to use I-Tunes software to upload music to it
Can only charge it by USB port

Not bad, but not good either.. sorry :joystick:
 
Okay, I kinda decided between these two players.. Please point out the pro's and cons of these

Pros:
Very reliable
Smaller (could be a con)
Sound quality is very good
Includes carrying case/arm band
Longer battery life

Cons:
Smaller
Slightly more expensive
Small joystick could be hard to use while running

MuVo
Pros:
Good size
Cheaper
Sound quality is great
Buttons easy to use

Cons:
Reliablity with creative MP3 players have been questionable
Only supports MP3/WMA no OGG (probably all youll use though)

Both:
Small and compact
No software required for transfer
FM Tuner
Voice Recorder

Honestly, you couldnt go wrong with either one. But I'd go with the iRiver just because it looks nicer (IMO) and its still supported by iRiver. (the Muvo N200 isnt even on their website anymore)

I have a mini myself and because it is one of the new ones it doesn't come with a wall charger but I use a cheaper charger by ziplinq found on this website http://www.ziplinq.com/retractable-cable-pwr.html (it's the first one pictured) so i basically use that usb wall charger to charge my ipod. In ipodlounge in this link, http://forums.ipodlounge.com/showthread.php?threadid=80691&highlight=zip+linq the posters said that some versions of the ziplinq charger doesn't work with the shuffle but with some soldering it can be fixed.
 
Well thanks guys, looks like I go shopping in the morning for an I-River. Reccomend any B&M stores to go to for the best deal?
 
Okay, i got the 895 player Iriver, but it won't let me install the drivers ( I plug it in, and it asks for the cd, but when i install it, theres a problem with an inf and it doesn't install)
