Lost Planet Demo Discussion (SP Currently on XBLM) - Multiplayer demo WINTER 2006

Wow. Good stuff. I knew NOTHING about this game, I loved the demo. Will definitely pick this up. This marks the second time an Xbox Live demo makes me run out and get a game I normally wouldn't have bothered with (the first was Fight Night 3)

Me too - I knew nothing about it and the screenshots probably wouldn't have made me take a second look (although it is pretty) but damn is this game fun - hopefully they can sustain the same intensity throughout the entire game. 10-12 hours would be plenty long for me - I'm definitely picking this one up...
If you are crouching (hold down left stick) and you press jump you'll do a roll move. I thought some people might have missed this because I figured the roll move out by accident.
Ahhhh, the whole time I was playing I was thinking, "This game really needs a strafing roll move or some sort."

I think the countdown is for your thermal energy (the orange glowy things you collect after killing an enemy). The game's story centers around thermal energy, which has become a rare commodity, so my best guess is if you don't kill enough and collect enougn, you die.

Finally got around to this demo, and I'm thoroughly impressed. I liked the trailer, but didn't have much hopes for actual gameplay for some reason. I was expecting kind of a mechassault 2 feel. But damn, this rocks. I love the integration of mechs without making a full out mech game. Feels very natural for the game world they created.

The grappel rope saved my ass in a fist pumping moment when I was about to get rolled down by one of those pill bug things and I shot up at a wall in desperation.

I hope the game ends up at a good length and with some nice variety. Seems to be off to a great start.

I'm going to be the big pessimist and say that I didn't enjoy the game as much as everyone else. I felt that there was no need to make the character so slow. Trudging through the snow (the very LOUD snow) felt like a chore.

The controls are all over the place, making it difficult to remember which button is which in a firefight. R3 for reload and D-pad for zoom? Waaa...? And why do I have to stop to pick up ammo?

Shooting the same alien-type creatures got repetitive as well. The mini-boss fights, however, I did like. They were a breath of fresher air, as was the random mech.

One thing I was impressed with (for the most part) were visuals. The character model looks like a human should, and actually leaves nice footprints in the snow. The snow is also the biggest problem I have with the graphics. At points, it almost hurt to look at the screen, as the blinding white of snow took up almost 3/4's of it.

All in all, I think this attempt with the RE4 camera wasn't as good as it should be. The character walks too slow, and the 'about-face' buttons on the shoulders make it awkward to turn so fast. Just when you thought exploding barrels were gone, they make an encore. Although I can forgive this time, because there are some fantastic explosions.

Damn, I really want to try out this demo, but I keep running into the problem I talked about in post #46 in this thread. I am having no problems downloading anything else, and no matter how many times I try, I keep getting dropped and started over at 6%(always drops me at 14%) or 53%(always drops me at 54%). Does anyone have any ideas about what I might try to get past this problem?
I was wondering does this game play like DW like I expected it should as seen from the trailer footage or what?
It'd help if we knew what DW was. Dynasty Warriors?

My demo is pissing me off. It works fine after I play it the first time after a fresh download, but every other time, the graphics will flicker black, it'll lock up on a loading screen, etc.. I played the demo for hours the first day. Damn it, this whole "some games work, some games don't" thing is really pissing me off (it's my console, not the demo itself)

Exactly or maybe Crimson Sea aka DW Sci-Fi would be more correct.

They're two completely different genres.. DW is hack and slash (for the most part), Lost Planet is a third person shooter.

Yeah but I get the idea it could end up having the pure chaos at least Crimson Sea looked to have at times. Then is there a combo meter listed?

Just no. It's nothing like either game.

The first level, I found a shotgun for my mech, it's very nice. I got all the way through to the boss with my mech, blasted it to pieces.

Second level, as soon as I walk through the door, I get mauled. Tips?

Ok then I MAY try it.

You would be correct. I didn't realize this playing the demo until I actually ran out during a boss battle I was in the middle of.

There should be a sniper rifle that either you begin with or near where you start off. Duck and scope/snipe out the enemies.

If you sprint to the right, there's a mech. You need to move immediately, because otherwise the two mechs roaming the place will see you and crush your skull.

You could also go up to to the left and grab an Energy Gun from one of the pirates up above. A fully charged energy blast will disable any mech, and make the pilot leave. The energy gun (again with a fully charged shot) will also track any source of energy (including pirates), so you can clear an area from far away.

After thats done, go in and grab the now vacant mech, blast the two rocket batteries, and have fun with the field troopers. :)
You can charge it? How does it work?
Just hold down the fire button until you see a noticeably larger protrusion of energy from the front of the gun--- there is also an audio cue to let you know when it's ready. To get the "homing" effect for the shot, aim at your target (mech or pirate), and then release the shot. Even if the enemy moves around it should be able to hit them, but the Shot can be affected by fences and walls, which will dissapate the shot. It also doesn't seem to work on the rocket batteries either, so take that under consideration.
is anyone having trouble downloading the demo?

my download percentage goes from 0% to 6% and never moves any further
Yes, I have tried to download this demo numerous times with no luck. Always starts at 6% and drops me at 14% or starts at 53% and drops me at 54%. I've tried everything from deleting the file to clearing the cache, and I think I've finally just given up...and this is one demo I REALLY want to try:cry:

I finally got around to hooking up my 360 to live, and this demo's freakin incredible.

And it's 6 months away from release. That's amazing. It's already the best arcade first-person shooter I've ever played, based on the first level alone. How am I going to go finish Far Cry now?

This game works on so many levels it's scary. The boss fight was INSANE. The combination of mech stuff with just running around on foot.....good lord. Ripping a gun off a mech's arm and blasting stuff with it.....the whole "collect heat from fallen enemies" bit.....

Plus, it really feels like you're walking around in the snow. Not like other games where they just color the ground white. Your character moves accordingly.

Best stuff though is when you'll be behind cover and a missle will come out of nowhere and blow it to crap and you fly backwards BUT STILL KEEP GOING. Most games end it right there with a game over screen but that's when things are just getting exciting....and this game keeps you in it.....

I can't say enough good things about this one. I'm DEFINITELY buying this.

Yeah I recently played the demo and beat the first level. The second level is quite challenging in my opinion, but that's after only two tries. I must admit this game was not even on my radar of games to get. But, after playing this demo I will definetly be buying this one. I will have to wait for it to drop to like 40-50 before I buy it since there is a bunch of games coming out that I want.

if this game is well paced like the demo, I'm getting it on day 1. the second mission is especially a lot of fun.

sucks this isn't coming out till 2007 :(

Played it for the first tiem last night and it's probably the first 360 game I got to play on my system that made my jaw drop. I didn't care about this game one bit at all, but now I want it badly.

this game will be flurking redonkulous. that video kicked ass..
gears of what? I'll be surprised (and very happy) if GoW can do run-and-gun better than this.

I totally agree. I am looking forward to this WAY more than Gears of War.

So, let's break this down. 360 games coming out in the next 6 months:

Lost Planet
Gears of War
Mass Effect
BioShock
Blue Dragon

And how is the PS3 supposed to beat the 360? Hot damn the 360's future looks bright!

with Ninja Gaiden Sigma, MGS4, FFXIII, DMC4, Virtua Fighter 5, etc.

Either way, the competition we've got between the three consoles is awesome... hopefully it'll push companies like the competition back in the 16-bit era did.

No doubt the PS3 will kill 360 in Japan, but since i don't live there, I don't care. And while all those games will probably suffer from launch game problems, and early life flaws, the best 360 games will have been extremely polished by now. I guess my thinking is, for $600, I could buy a hell of a lot of great 360 games. And this is coming from someone who is a bonafide PS2 pimp.

no way. Look at the people who develop the games chacrana mentioned-- Team Ninja, AM2 (if they're still called that), Capcom's DMC team, Hideo Kojima and Squenix. flaws? maybe some hair clipping in Ninja Gaiden and an effeminate man for a lead role in FFXIII

but besides Blue Dragon, it's easy to see how PS3 and 360 fans will be divided and why the race will be much closer this gen.
an effeminate man for a lead role in FFXIII

I think Square finally made the main character a girl this time... which is nice because it was clear they've been wanting to go that route for close to a decade.

You forgot Army of Two. The 360 is pure sex.

Did you notice anything about your list? They are all sequels...

Well, let's see how many of those are sequels and/or ports...all of them. They'll be fantastic games for sure, but at the very least all (with the exception of BioShock) the 360 games VG mentioned are original.

It's very possible all of those except VF5 could come to 360. Especially if PS3 market penetration is slow and low, it will make the developers panic, wondering what to do with their million dollar investments.

VF5 was originally slated for the 360, I got a game magazine from Europe that came with a DVD of people playing it on the 360. Maybe it'll be released for UK only?

ive been playing this demeo alot and its really fun but hard. and its pretty long for a demo. too bad it doesnt come out till 2007.

This is true... if PS3 and PS3 games don't do as well as developers hoped, expect to start seeing ports en masse. Gotta make up the lost money somewhere, and we all know how quickly Capcom and Sega will start porting games.

Nobody really knows if the games are exclusive, just that PS3 has them first, and these days that dosen't mean shit.
The new trailer on XBLM states that this winter will have a multiplayer demo up on XBLM, so be happy.
