Lost Season 4 Discussion - Because You Left
I think the six are Jack, Kate Hurley, Sayid, Jin and Sun. I think the person in the coffin is Locke, who they killed and brought with them
I don't know if you guys follow all the hardcore Lost fans, but they froze and magnified the obit, and it's been so long I can't remember the guy's name, but it wasn't any of the Losties' names that we know of.

I was guessing at the time it was the captain of the ship aka the new bad guys. I think it was Latham or Chatham or something, with the first name illegible.
Sweet. IDK why everyone keeps saying it's Locke. I just can't see him leaving the island. We all know he'd rather die than leave.

So what are the odds Jacob = Smoke Monster/Wisp?
I'd say better than even money. If you read that whole Lost background story linked to a while back, I read that stuff a looooong time ago, can't remember where it came from originally, but it allegedly was not some sort of fan fiction but the actual background/history of the island. I.e. it's apparently legit, hence Jacob 'blew up' in some Dharma experiment on the 'magical/mystical' island with its unique electromagnetic properties and became part of the island, able to manifest as the black smoke/cloud/rock dust monster.

But whatever, the show is crazy and the writers are all cracked out.
Yes.....but he was DEAD weeks before the plane crashed on the island.....and if the Island can miraculously cure...umm...BEING DEAD!!! then we'd have nothing but a whole island full of Zombies and as much as id like to see Michelle Rodriguez as a zombie again...it aint happening, Hurley is Crazy...and Desmond can see into the future....and Jack has the amazing power to be a giant Dick and a great gaping pussy at the same time.
Yes but he was killed/died OFF the island, perhaps that plays a part. It could be that the theory of the island being a temporal nexus/wormhole/tesseract whatever you want to call it, i.e. a 'hole' in time where all possibilities exist, that the matter that was/is Jack's father can be reanimated, or in the reality of the island at that moment, he lives.

Whatever, we can get into some crazy theoretical nonsense...just imagine it sort of like Shrodinger's Cat theory...infinite possibilities behind a veiled curtain that we cannot see....

i say its Hurley in the coffin

Taping the 8 shows and recordin them to DVD.... No way am i paying 40 bucks fora 8 show season this summer

Shit. I should have read the spoiler. Well played.

Anyhow, that prediction can't be true, as it claims that Dharma is still functioning. We've already discovered that the Dharma Initiative has been usurped by Richard and his crew (now led by Ben).

Man, its great to have NEW TV back, and even better that its LOST... Its a shame it seems we are only getting 8 episodes this season.

Episode 4.02: Confirmed Dead ("Not Penny's Boat" people-centric)
Airdate: February 7, 2008
  • new.gif
02/06 - [Naomi]'s now all dead, but she is, let's say, a presence in the next two episodes (at least). Source: Kristin on E!Online
  • new.gif
02/06 - A decent Juliet fix awaits you tomorrow night. Not only is there a nice little scene with her and Sayid on the beach, but she ends up saving the day - much to Kate's chagrin. Speaking of which, there's a Kate/Jack/Juliet moment that will have you peeing your pantaloons. It's that funny. It's also pretty subtle, so your full attention will be required. Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide
  • 02/03 - In the second episode, Locke will ask Ben flat out what the "black monster" is (yes, Locke uses those words). Source: TV Squad
  • 02/03 - [Charlotte's full name is] Charlotte Staples Lewis. Source: Lost Spoilers
  • 01/23 - But the biggest mystery hanging over Lost's fourth season, beyond who makes it off the island, is how rescue-friendly those freighter folk will turn out to be. Could the quirky quartet -- Fahey, Davis, Rebecca Mader, Ken Leung -- win up making Others leader Ben look downright cuddly? Expect the February 7 episode to shed light on the gang's true mission. Source: TV Guide
  • 01/19 - The survivors begin to question the intentions of their supposed rescuers when four strangers arrive on the island. Guest starring are Ken Leung as Miles, Jeremy Davies as Daniel Faraday, Rebecca Mader as Charlotte, Jeff Fahey as Frank Lapidus, Mira Furlan as Danielle Rousseau, Tania Raymonde as Alex, Blake Bashoff as Karl, Marsha Thomason as Naomi, Lance Reddick as Matthew Abaddon, Jill Kuramoto as female anchor, Necar Zadegan as translator, Azure McCall as Mrs. Gardner and Kanayo Chiemelu as African/Tunisian man. Source: ABC
  • 09/12 - Lost was filming along a small streambed at Judd Trail, up Old Nuuanu Pali Road. A perfectly Lost-y jungle location. All the action was out of sight, but it was good to see some familiar faces on the crew. I can only tell you that there was a major confrontation (I could hear yelling echo through the forest), and can rattle of the list of actors I spotted. But I think you'll agree, this simple list alone is enough to get one's heart aflutter. This was a major shoot! Jorge Garcia (who was kind enough to stop and chat), Terry O'Quinn, Mira Furlan (in a nice checkerboard flannel-type shirt), Josh Holloway (who I believe was the aggressor), Michael Emerson (who appeared to have been on the losing end of a fight), Blake Bashoff and Emilie DeRavin. Of course there was at least one baby being carried around. Names overheard but not seen include Evangeline Lilly, "Carla," "Alex," "Karl," and "Fuzzy" (likely stunt pro Robert Moody). During my brief chat with Jorge, he again expressed a great deal of excitement and anticipation for the first few scripts of Season 4, comparing it to Season 1 in richness and mind-blowing moments. He also recalled meeting friends of mine yesterday at the "Santa Rosa" location, summarizing the shoot with a long, delicious, "Whew!" I think it's safe to say fans are no less excited about the return of Lost. My friend Darcy also visited the location later in the day and saw Matthew Fox in a scene with Evangeline and Jeremy Davies. Davies, playing a character named Daniel, was wearing a vest with a blinking light and made a call to someone named George, presumably or supposedly on Naomi's ship. Source: The Transmission
  • 09/12 - Jack, Kate and Daniel are hiking uphill through the jungle. When they reach the top of a rise, Jack and Kate sit down to rest while Daniel, who's wearing a black vest with a flashing red light (probably identical to the one Naomi has on when she parachutes down to the island) pulls out some sort of communication device (again, possibly the same as Naomi's "phone") and says something like: "George, it's Daniel. Yeah, my instrumentation went crazy. Seemed like some kind of electrical storm. I'm here with some of the survivors." The rest of the dialog was inaudible, but Daniel and Jack seemed to be saying a lot to each other. The take was rather long, perhaps a full two minutes. Source: Lost Spoilers
  • 08/22 - Sources confirm that The Wire's Lance Reddick has been cast in the recurring role of Arthur Stevens, the intimidating corporate recruiter. Source: The Ausiello Report
  • 08/21 - Ken Leung [...] is joining the cast of Lost next season, sources confirm. The rumor is that Leung will be playing the recurring role of Russell ([may not be the character's real name]), a brilliant mathematician who is capable of great insights and has a tremendous knowledge across various scientific fields. He's expected to first turn up in the season premiere. Source: The Ausiello Report
  • 08/15 - The only bit of info I can add about [the] role [of Arthur Stevens] is that the character will be between 40 and 60 years old. Source: SpoilerFix BuddyTV Spoilers Chat
  • 08/13 - Also appearing in 401 and 402, with possibly more episodes down the line, is Arthur Stevens. He is a ruthless corporate recruiter, tall and thin, with a chilling presence. Source: secretagentman @ TWoP
  • 08/05 - The role of Charlotte could become a regular. Source: SpoilerFix.com
  • 08/05 - Here is a little more about Russell: He is said to be fascinated by magic and mystery even if he works in a world of science. The role is a recurring that may end up to be a series regular. Source: SpoilerFix.com
  • 08/01 - First up is the recurring character of Russell, described as a brilliant mathematician in his late thirties who is "capable of great insights and has a tremendous knowledge across various scientific fields." Unfortunately, he tends to be too direct for his own good, and as a result, his personal relationships don't always add up. Russell is scheduled to turn up in Episode 1. Source: The Ausiello Report
  • 08/01 - [A new character], possibly extending the rest of the season, and perhaps next season, [is] Russell, a brilliant mathematician in his late 30's. Name may change of course. Source: secretagentman @ TWoP
  • 08/01 - Also recurring is Charlotte, a hot twentysomething who is said to be "precocious, loquacious and funny... a very successful academic who also knows how to handle herself in the real world." Interestingly, she, too, has a tough time relating to people. Beneath the surface, there's "lots of repressed and pent-up emotions." [Charlotte debuts in Episode 2.] Source: The Ausiello Report
  • 08/01 - [A new character], possibly extending the rest of the season, and perhaps next season, [is] Charlotte, an attractive, athletic academic. Name may change of course. Source: secretagentman @ TWoP

But the Dharma Initiative was founded by one of the Hanzo's. And the Hanzo family is vastly wealthy, if you read the background on them. Weren't there large parts of the group all around the world?

Also, check out I believe it's www.lostpedia.com or some such site, it has all of this background info from the various tie in websites, backstory, the online webisodes info all kinds of crazy theories and info backing them up, etc.

Check out the hanzofoundation.org website, I think that was the official hanzo one with all kinds of crazy information on him and Dharma for more background.

I should have clarified. In that theory, it suggests that the Dharma initiative is still functioning on the island. It claims that it was still functioning and led by Ben when they confronted Radzinsky to give him control of the Flame.

As we've seen, Ben is not the leader of the Dharma Initiative on the island. He is the leader of the usurpers. Dharma, on the island, was killed off before Radzinsky was put in the Flame.

I just want it to be over already. I'm so sick of nothing ever getting resolved. It's like The X-Files all over again...

Yup. That's why when that whole theory was posted a couple of pages back, I knew I had read it at least a year ago, maybe longer. Probably between Season 2 and 3, so it wasn't modified/updated to account for what we've discovered since, mainly that Ben betrayed the initiative to the 'original inhabitants' of the island, the 'others' or whatever that group is formally known as.

I dont think it's jumped the shark but I'd really love it if they scrapped the flash backs and the future storylines and the incredibly in depth side stories on alternate media (websites/games/ARGs, etc) and just focused on the main storyline and start to move forward in a clear and tangible way.

On an unrelated note, has anyone noticed that Jack cries in every fucking episode? What's up with that?
resolved?? you find out there were 6 people who escaped the island 3 of which are Kate, Hurley, and Jack
yeah but so what? Isn't the how more important than the end result? I mean in just about every movie ever you know the good guys are going to win/save the day/get the girl/whatever but people keep going because the journey to how they got there are slightly different no matter the end result. I knew from the first episode in season 1 that eventually they would get off the island. We don't really know any more than we did in season 1 about what is going on with the island - it's all really speculation - and now they are about to introduce an entirely new group of "others"? We don't know what the deal is with the first batch of them!!! I want to scream.

The future segments suck in my opinion cause they're worthless. Who knows that's what will actually happen? It could be explained away in a second and end up being completely inconsequential. My theory on the stuff thats happening in the future is that we're seeing a possible reality that might happen if they continue on the path they're on ... but something tells me things will definitely change between now and "then".
What's with the "Confirmed Dead" addition to this thread title?
The title of tonight's episode?

He's got daddy issues, what do you expect.

Just wait til the lesbo love seen between Kate and Juliet in next week's episode...OOPS! I should put spoilers around that...anyway, just wait and see how much he cries when they invite Sawyer to be the meat in their sandwich instead of Jack.

:hot::drool:

That would be phenomenal!

Episode isn't even over and my mind is blown.

There's a helicopter. Jack said in a prior episode that he took some flying lessons. I think the six that leave actually escape and Jack flies them out.

That was kinda cool about Locke, how the reason he survived the gunshot Ben gave him last season was because his kidney wasn't there. Adding to the "destiny" subplot of the show.

And is Miles a Ghostbuster? EDIT: Lol, Naomi actually called him a Ghostbuster!

I want to see how far the Eli Stone ratings dropped tonight, proving 15 million people only watched for that Oceanic commercial.

At the end of the show when Locke has Ben at the tree and is about to kill him, and Ben starts spouting off everything he knows about everyone in the Helicopter, what happens after that?

I had to help my brother with something and want to make sure I didn't miss anything.

^
Ben just admitted they are only on the island to capture him. And that he knew everything about the "rescuers" because he has a spy on their freighter.

due to this asinine view :)

The show's set at 6 seasons. It will get resolved. Everything is set in stone. You're not seeing anything resolved because there's like 46 episodes left. The show's pacing and mystery is intentional, and frankly the sole reason the show is still on the air in this modern cancel-happy television industry.

this was by far one of the greatest episodes EVER...not just of Lost, but of any episode of any TV show. HOLY fuck!

only thing I could complain about was
after how quickly Sawyer shot Mr. Friendly and how he was about to kill Ben earlier, after Ben shot the red head, you would have thought Sawyer would have not hesitated a second more to cap Ben's ass immediately where he lay.

Please do us all a favor and no longer post in this thread.

well, i guess the obvious question...
why are they after ben? im sticking with my theory that the people on the freighter are dharma (or at least a dharma supported group). i figure theyd have a bone to pick with ben.

also, when the hell are they going to meet back up with the others, theyve been hanging out at the temple with the immortal metro guy richard for the last year.

My guess is Richard and the remnants of the Others saw that flare or chopper and are heading in to check it out. They probably find Locke at the barracks and join him since they seem hellbent on replacing Ben with Locke. Once they see Ben in shackles, they'll probably figure Locke is the savior. Then it's rumble time and sayonara to the chopper crew, but not before Locke manages to get Miles to communicate with Jacob (we can see that coming a mile away).

Anyway, Richard's due for a flashback anytime soon. And inevitably Danielle to reveal what happened on her science expedition. Probably next week since tonight's episode scene where it shows Alex actually does care about Ben and that might disturb Danielle enough to trigger a flashback.

agreed, they both have to be getting them soon. especially danielle.

I'm not even at Square One with this show anymore. I'm at more like...Tesseract Square Root of Negative Infinity after this episode. And I love it. More.

The show may/probably will end with a lot of unanswered questions, but the answers should start coming with a greater frequency, now that the end is in sight (for the producers and writers). They had to "tapdance" in the first three seasons, not knowing how long ABC/Disney was going to drag the show on.

My only immediate concern now is how the WGA strike will affect the remaining seasons. If it gets resolved in the next couple weeks (last I heard, things are looking way up), then they should be able to go back and get in Season Four's second half. If not, one of three things has to happen: they tack on the second half to Season Five, effectively, they just 'compress' the second half of Season Four and Season Five (total of 24 would-be episodes) into just Season Five (16), or they extend the show into a seventh season. For me, the best scenario of those is getting 24 episodes between the beginning of this Fall and May of '09. I don't want to get gypped out of anything, but I also don't want this show to drag on for another three years (after this one).

My guess is ABC will just capitalize on it and have the second 8 episodes to keep ratings up during a time where there would be a Lost void. It's just a matter of whether the actors want to do the remaining 8 and basically have no break between finishing this season and filming the next batch of 16. My guess is they would do it, given that the strike itself was a bonus vacation.

Either way, ABC at least tried to have a straight 16 after alienating viewers with the busted-up season fiasco last year. The second batch of 8 episodes should film quick though. I doubt writers actually stopped working durign the strike. They probably walked the picket line by day and got their shit ready at night so when they go back to work they can have a head start.

I BitTorrent last night's episode and just watched it this morning, and damn, what an awesome episode!
I'm glad none of the new characters are pretty, but just regular enough to fit in well with rest of the cast (unlike the couple from season 3 who were whacked).
Just about to watch the first two episodes of this season... but can someone answer to me real quick one thing....

The only way to answer that is to say yes...and maybe no.

Why is confirmed dead in the title? It's Lost. No one can be confirmed dead til the last ep airs, and even then there's bound to be a few are they or aren't theys.
