lynyrd skynyrd

I'd say maybe the greatest rock band to come out of the south, but there are many bands who own them

BTW great first post!

in my opinion they are the greatest band of all time

to each his own

Not even close to the greatest. But they do earn extra points for inventing people yelling "Free Bird" for encores.

Yeah, and I love Lynyrd Skynyrd, but I just prefer The Doors. Although they are very different bands....

I'm sooo tired of Lynyrd Skynyrd. I live in freakin Alabama so I hear this all the time. At one of our 4th of July festivals every cover band played Free Bird (no shit). And the song Mustang Sally (yes I'm aware this isn't a LS song). On a positive note, Simple Man isn't a bad song.

I always like the "non-Sweet Home" Skynyrd. I can't stand that specific song. Free Bird is too saturated. You know it's overplayed when it's the year 2000 and kids still play that at their proms. It's like one of few classic songs myseriously exempt from the "that sounds like old people music" mentality kids have. Like if you played some Ten Years After or Electric Light Orchestra. Who?

As for me, I think either Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers or Creedence Clearwater Revival would have to be the greatest American rock band. They reach a much wider audience than Skynyrd did. There's others like Aerosmith, etc. but those specific two bands are iconic. Petty fucking dominated the Super Bowl halftime show like no other before.

ELO is amazing, CCR is amazing, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers are amazing.

Oh please, Springsteen had the best half time show ever. Petty's too busy getting high and being Lucky. (I like Lucky and King of the Hill.)

Aerosync with Britney Spears was probably the most memorable halftime show, though. It was probably the peak of the late 90s early 2000s pop scene. Just plain Aerosmith playing just Aerosmith songs would have been better, but the wow factor in the 2001 show can't be matched.

I have to disagree. Other than Bruce cockslapping a cameraman, that was cool.

i didnt like springsteens halftime show at all

im not a fan of springsteen really, but born on the 4th of july is a very powerful song and born to run is a classic
Simple Man is such a simple, yet amazing song.
This.

First time I played it in Rock Band 2, it blew my mind. I don't know about all-time best, but they're certainly in my top 10 all-time greats.

His best are the less familiar songs. Atlantic City, Spirits In The Night (fucking EPIC!), The River, Prove It All Night. I can't stand his "popular" songs. But listen to those ones, trust me.
LS aren't even contenders for the greatest anything. Crap.
Bullshit, let's not be ignorant. But if you're talking about modern post-crash Skynyrd, then I apologize. ;)

LS has many great songs Tuesday's Gone, Simple Man, Gimmie Three Steps, Saturday Night Special, That Smell, Gimmie back my bullets, Call Me The Breeze, What's Your Name, etc.

I would say they are one of the best American rock groups of all time.

There are so many good ones:

Slayer
Allman Brothers
Doobie Brothers pre-74
CCR
Boston
Buffalo Springfield(yea I know not all members are American)
Elvis(though not really band)
Johnny Cash(once again not really band wise)
The Ramones
The Melvins
The Eagles
MC5
Iggy and the Stooges
Van Halen
Black Crowes
Blue Oyster Cult
Faith No More
Metallica's first four albums
Janes Addiction
Tom Petty
the doors
The Boss
Pearl Jam
Hank Williams
Robert Johnson
BB King
Bo Diddley
Bob Dylan
