M!NRD Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2 6/22: New Characters! Action Replay Code for importers!

get ready for some pain my friend, Sekai wa Sore wo Ai to yobundaze on insane almost made me smash my ds into the wall countless times, its not a hard song by any means, its just the LAST SECTION is so randomly fast you can't even think

Yeah, I'm still picking away at Zoku on insane. I know I can beat it at this point, but I got sidetracked by some B2G1 games I bought today.

I think my favorite song of this game is Okuru Kotoba or Samurai Blue. Love those songs.

I've had the last 2 songs on repeat on my MP3 player so I get familiar with them... hopefully it'll make them easier when I get to them on insane.

S ranked all the easy songs, halfway through normal now, do you guys know if using hidden circle mode nets you more points? i think i'll have enough points to get the final rank without using it, but just wondering

Edit: i did the exact same thing you did sixers, playing the songs all the time on repeat has helped :) when i'm playing and can't get enough 300's, i start listening to the song and watching the circles instead of just the song, it does wonders, but on the easier difficulties i end up hitting the markers too fast anyways >

[quote name='maigoyume']now, do you guys know if using hidden circle mode nets you more points?[/quote] well at first i didn't notice but once i got a perfect w/ hidden circles on insane Zenryoku Shonen, the point difference was nearly 1 million points and of course if you manage to almost get a perfect on the final song on insane w/ hidden circles, the score is gonna be maxed out

also, finally made it to the final rank and got the trophy

Ohh man, I just perfect'd Samurai Blue on Hard. If it weren't for a couple 50's and a bit too many 100's, I think I could've gotten S rank. i got an A rank instead :(. Still awesome, though.

samurai blue on INSANE took me at least 40 tries to beat, simply because the last section doesn't even give you a chance to think >

Yes, it is. I've played Countdown enough by now that I can always easily finish it on Hard, and usually can on Insane though.

The last song is even worse, I'm still working on it, and still usually only barely make it to the fourth section where I promptly lose right at the start of it every time.

I finally finished Insane today, and actually it wasn't that bad, I got through in about 3 tries. I guess sometimes you really do just need to give it some time.

I'm still around 7 million points away from the highest rank though, so there's still plenty to work on even if I don't go for the hidden circles.

Yeah, like I said before, it's pretty much unplayable as far as I'm concerned. I've only ever managed to even finish a song in hidden circle mode once(but then again, I haven't really tried much yet).

I got the final ranking today(the trophy). I had to go back and get better scores on normal and easy to get the last few points to do it, but it wasn't too hard.

so i'm assuming you can still get the trophy w/o using hidden circle? in any case i'm still gonna do hidden circle, but i think i'll S rank hard and insane first

Yeah, it's definitely possible. You need at least perfect on almost every song to do it though, and I had about half of them S ranked as well.

So mine finally came in the mail today, and it takes care of my hatred that I had for EBA's song list. I can't put it down.

[quote name='pygmy carnotaur']Yeah, it's definitely possible. You need at least perfect on almost every song to do it though, and I had about half of them S ranked as well.[/quote]fine by me, was planning to do so anyways, thanks for the heads up buddy :D

ugh it took me countless tries to beat samurai blue on insane, but the "itsuma demo, doko made mo" midsections are a good way to boost your bar back up

Edit: i just remembered, if you're having trouble with the first 3 sections, the last part will rape you through the pants at least the first 20 times, well thats what happened to me >

ARGHHHH!!!

I had a perfect combo in SSA Insane going into the last part. 10-15 secs I lose combo, and then I failed around 10-15 secs later :bomb: Bomb: :bomb:

YES I BEAT IT!!

Although, I would've had a Perfect, but I missed one of the ones before the last spinner. :bomb:

Edit: Looked at the replay I saved; FOUR circles before the spinner :bomb:

sounds like one of these times

A few weeks ago, over at GameFAQs, Asho posted some interesting things that he found while rummaging through the sound files of the game: Voices for Agent J and the Cat, as playable multiplayer characters. At the time, everyone just wrote it off as an intended feature that was axed during development.

Well, recently, Nintendo confirmed the purpose of these strange voice clips by updating the official Ouendan 2 web site with a new link:
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/ao2j/omake/index.html (Translation)

Yes, with the touch of an icon at the character select screen or the multiplayer screen, the Elite Beat Agents and the Cat are playable characters. The EBA in Ouendan 2 can be played in any difficulty, and they are effectively new skins for the characters they are replacing, so they use the Ouendan/Cheerleader dance moves.

But...
It's Japan-only. Yes, as the official web site says, the EBA and the Cat can only be attained by downloading them from a DS Station. In Japan. Between June 26th and July 11th. So until someone comes up with a solution for importers, you'll need either a good travel agent or a generous deity.

Bleah. I remember reading about some guy who was able to turn his PC + Nintendo USB dongle into a DS download station. (Someone doing genuine, legit homebrew!) It was pretty involved, so I never bothered doing it. This might be a good reason to go and figure it out though.

Granted, you'd have to find the right file* to upload to your DS, but that's what teh internetz is for.

*Yes, I suppose this could be considered a ROM, per se, but anything that ought to be readily available at a DS download station should be fair game.

Maybe it's not that bad... I mean, if nothing else, this should mean that once we get EBA2, we should be able to unlock the Ouendan as playable characters right?

EDIT:
Another thought, since this would mean the EBA are in a Japanese game(and presumably, the Ouendan will be in a game released outside of Japan), then there would be no issues including any EBA or Ouendan member in the new Smash Bros. game. :D

So i finally unlocked insane mode tonight and am having fun with that.

I read on the first post that there is download play, but i can't figure out how to get to it within the menus...can anyone help me out with that?

Well, I'll make it up to you yukine... By telling you how us importers can access this EBA Mode via an Action Replay.

You see, I was doing research on potential methods to unlock this mode, my interest piqued by the point made on other forums that this EBA mode was already on the DS Cart, with the Download Station acting as the key to unlock it, similar to the Animal Crossing and Nintendogs items. Anyways, I was doing research when I stumbled upon this code topic over at the ever-useful 2chan:
http://game12.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/gameurawaza/1179399284/

I was scrolling down when I hit it, post #98, the answer to our problem:
Code:
98 :23:2007/06/21(木) 20:57:17 ID:hIHvkfHo
    EBAのキャラクターが使用可能になるコードできました。

    @EBAモード解禁(ARDS用)
    220D7397 00000001
or perhaps this would be better translated:
The EBA characters can be enabled with this code:
@EBA MODE (Action Replay DS)
220D7397 00000001

I have done some limited testing with this code on a clean save, and even now, I'm surprised. I started up the game, and found the EBA Badge icon on the single player difficulty select menu. As expected, I went into normal mode, went into the first song, and found that the EBA are in fact just new dancing skins for the Ouendan; they don't appear in any cutscenes, they still use the Ouendan voice clips, and even the cutaways are still feature the Ouendan leader. Oh, and it looks like Agents J, Derek, and Morris replace both teams. As for the Cat, it looks like he might only be available in multiplayer.

But that's not all... Curious, I went into easy mode, where the leader was, instead of J, Agent Spin. This means that Agent J may just be the tip of the iceberg. Theoretically, Agent Chieftain and the Divas should be available in their respective difficulties.

How to help: I don't have an actual Action Replay. I tested this out using the AR cheat function of the R4 on a clean ROM. Thus, I consider this code is largely untested, and I will need some volunteers to test out this code on an actual Action Replay. It should work, since it looks like this code just sets off the correct flag for the EBA mode. Right now I'm interested in finding out about the new multiplayer characters and if my theories about Chieftain and the Divas are correct.

I've done some testing with the code. It works both with R4 and the actual Action Replay :D

I'll repost what I have stated over at GameFAQs.

Regarding the part where Chieftain and Divas replacing their respective counterparts in the Hard and Cheer Girl difficulty, it is confirmed. Again, they replace BOTH red and blue teams.

However, in SSAY (the final song), where both team leaders are on screen, this changes. On the Red team, it will be the EBA (the leader of that difficulty). On the blue team, it is the Cat. What's rather hilarious is the cat comes with some of the features of that difficulty's Blue Ouendan. Which means in Hard mode, it has the Bluendan leader's hair, and in Insane, it has Rin (cheergirl leader for Bluendan)'s hairstyle.

Multiplayer

I tested multiplayer (I have both original and the ROM). Agent J takes up the final slot of the Red team, and the Cat takes up the final slot of the blue team. There appears to be no way to choose any of the other Agents unfortunately as far as I know.

That's my report for now.

Well, I've held off on getting an action replay, but I guess I'll be getting one now for this. A stupid question maybe, but then I haven't used an AR-type thing in years, does this code mess your save up at all, or does it just add EBA-mode to the game? I'm good enough at this one that I'm sure I've have my current high scores met or exceeded again in no time anyway, but I'd prefer to not have my save messed with.

It just adds the EBA mode to the game. I have not noticed any odd things in my game since activating it.

You will need to trigger the game to save for you to keep it (EBA mode) permanently.

Go to the Options, hit the top-middle tab (L/R hand + rumble pack option), and go out. The game will save.

I highly suggest you do not use any other codes with this unlock code. Play it safe. I've tested on my own carts and the codes are fine.

EDIT: Okay, I went over to check at GameFAQs, someone over there used the code, unlocking the mode but apparently lost all his songs. I don't know why it happens since it did NOT happen to me. But if you are very precautious about your save (especially if it's on an original cart), I recommend holding off for now unless you are willing to take risks (I did.)

I'm ready to try it, and I went out and bought an Action Replay.... and I have no idea how to use it. I feel really stupid now, but how do you add codes to it?

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm an idiot, and I think I have it now.

Haha, thank you. I wasn't being serious, as I knew it would only be a matter of time before a code/patch was released to unlock them. ;)

Ok, now that I'm done being stupid for the day, I can confirm that the AR code works and doesn't effect anything in the game other than opening EBA mode(at least that's all it did for me).

The cat is pretty funny, but we all know that should've been Commander Khan instead. Also I'm disappointed they didn't at least carry over the EBA 'pop up images'(I don't know what you call them, the picture of the leader that pops up on the left side when you're doing well). I know the EBA are just swaps, but so was Khan in EBA and they gave him his own pop up image.
