Madden 08 *General Discussion*

I would ASSume that EA will put out a patch soon enough. They said they are fixing the Favre moonwalking incident also. However, when is a good question. I wonder if they patch it, will it update current franchises. I just started my new franchise this past weekend since the NEW rosters are out.

is the glitch when you try to play your game but it wont let you ?
 
yes it fixes the franchise mode, here's the news update on easport

"An update for Madden NFL 08 is now available for the XBOX 360 version of the game. Users who have their Xbox 360 connected online will be automatically prompted to download the update when starting the game. This update fixes concerns with online connectivity and issues within Franchise Mode. An update for the PS3 version of the game will be available shortly. "

I wonder if you have to restart a franchise or if my current one will just WORK now.
 
i think you just hold any button, just make sure the defender is pretty far away, or your player might end up doing something else.
 
Hey Madden fans. I just got the game last week and am 10 games into my first season.

I (obviously) play as the steelers but traded a 1&2 draft pick (and crappy receiver) for Larry Fitzgerlald and 3&4 dp (and crappy center) for 92 OVR center to beef up the offense.

I play on All pro and have won everygame so far (and quit out of a few I was not, i know its lame) but get picked ALOT. The two/three games I would have lost were because of picks and fumbles and I just got so pissed i quit. I usually throw away from coverage while my feet are set too but the DBs are just so good.

DId anybody else experience this? (throwing a lot of picks). I also fumble for what seems like a ridiculous amount. Also what are/were the franchise glitches. So 4 questions.

(1) Am i the only one who quits out of games they're losing?
(2) Throw too many pics?
(3) Fumble too much?
(4) WHat are the franchise glitches pple keep talking about?
 
1. I rarely quit, but i'm pretty sure a lot of people quit. I'm playing superstar mode right now as a WR, so even if I did quit it wouldn't make much a difference since i'm not a QB and I cant choose the plays so ehh.

2. Yeah, my first couple of games I threw a lot of INT's, it'll take some time to adjust to it.

3. Too many fumbles also, I cant even count up all the times that Brandon Jacobs (I'm on the Giants in superstar mode) fumbled in the red zone.

4. One franchise glitch was that after about in the middle of your 5th season, it wont allow you to play your next game, it has been fixed though. Another glitch i know about is that sometimes it wont let you sign a player even though you have more than enough cap room(ive even tried to do it while switching off the salary cap). That's about all I could think of, hope it helped.
 
There are a LOT of glitches in franchise...they are supposed to patch it REALLY soon (says EA).

A few glitches:
- Lots of fumbles
- Franchise will freeze after a few seasons as FA will disappear from FA list.

I played ONE season and all the FB/SS/QB were gone....thus, it will make with some issues of teams not having enough to fullfill rosters.

I know the roster update before the last one had a problem with Antonio Pittman of the Rams. It said that his salary was $0, and if you tried to drop/resign him, it would lock up. So if I would have managed to play enough games to get to where he was a free agent, I am sure that I would have not been able to continue my franchise, since I wouldn't have been able to resign or drop him.

I would assume so....there is a generaly gamplay patch....but a lot address the franchise glitches....there is a list of what the new patch "should" fix.
 
I play on All-madden, 4 minute quarters, stock sliders with the Vikings. Traded Chester Taylor, Bobby Wade, and a 3rd round pick for Calvin Johnson. I have won 2 games so far in my first year. I get realistic scores too.

It's either Kick Return or Onside Kick. Special Teams sucks for the game in general. The blocking on punt coverage is exceptionally terrible.
 
I have a question about training and player progression and a question about substitutions.

In past iterations the players that did well would periodically progress and get better throughout the season, is this feature gone?

Regarding substituions, I want to rearrange the players on my kickoff team to get the starters off of it, how do I do this? I can tinker with the depth chart but on the spec. teams depth chart there is only options for subing K, P, and returners.

I know what you're talking about, in the past every four weeks they updated players either positively or negatively based on performance, age, injury, etc. I haven't played the season mode in a few months (been playing offline against friends for the most part lately) so I'm not sure if that happens. I do seem to remember that once the season is done having Calvin Johnson jump in rating so I know that the player ratings do change.

You have to go to the formation section when substituting the kickoff/punt plays. It will show the formation and allow you to insert players in the position you want, like having faster guys as the gunners (guys who run down the field to tackle when you punt).

I don't think there is a formation substition section in hte 360 version.

This game is STILL FLAWED THOUGH. A new patch SHOULD come this month, but I'm stll waiting as franchise is pointless without a patch.

Yeah thats what I thought. I just recently got the game and am playing through franchise and it seems fine. Other than the fumbling what else is flawed about it? IM in playoffs of 2nd steelers season.

1st Offseason I traded 1st and 2nd round for WR Larry Fitzgerald and 3rd and 4th for C Nick hardwick (92 OVR) for my crappy center. .

Well, your franchise may freeze after this season. Fre Agents are disappearing in franchise mode. After a few seasons the FB, SS, and a few other positions have no players....then teams cannot fill slots, causing the game to freeze.

I played one season, but now am waiting to start another.
 
Okay, it took me a while to finally find this thread. Who hid it?

It's been a long time since I owned a football game. But, being the NFL fan that I am I still had to jump at the $22.45 missprint in Circuit City's ad this week. Now I'm not sure if I want to keep the game or sell it. Really for me, it comes down to a question about roster updates.

I was told that there are some sort of roster/team updates that you can download periodically. Now I would assume that certain teams and players (*cough*Browns*cough*) would have higher rankings and thus play better now that projected at the beginning of the season.

So I guess I'm asking this. If I open this game up and update it am I going to see a moderately good team with Anderson as the starting quarterback or am I going to see a bottom-feeder lead by Charlie Frye?

Yes, the rosters are updated, and the updates are pretty good. Anderson will be starting on the Browns. They even have Ricky Williams back in the game (even if he only played 1 quarter basically).

There is also a patch to fix a LOT of glitches....I enjoy Madden 08, but I'm an NFL fan and this is all we have.

I can't be stopped with the Vikes. My defense is bar none, Tarvaris has a rocket arm even though he doesn't have the little icon so I can throw bombs to Sidney Rice and Troy Williamson. And also this guy, I think his name is Adrian Peterson.

I'm in my 3rd season and paid only 26 bucks so I got my money's worth.

Anyway, I'm the steelers and have picked up the following players through either free agency or by trading draft picks: Larry Fitzgerald, Champ Bailey, Bob Sanders, Lance Briggs, Levi Jones, Randy Moss, T.J. Houshmanzadeh, and Jonathan Vilma. All are above 95.

This aspect of the game (off season trading and cap management etc.) seems particularly easy. The game itself is pretty challenging on All-pro so far, but my team's skill level helps.

I do all three trainings every single week too, this helps level my guys up. It's cheap but I sub in the scrubs to train against so I can more easily get the 7 training pts on all madden. Also if I'm having a horrible game Ill sometiems restart.

- Mike Hart RB
- Jake Long OL (trade)
- Tim Jamison (draft)
- Morgan Trent (draft)
- Reggie Bush (trade)
- David Harris (trade)

I had a to trade a few key people also:
- Kitna (not really key)
- Shaun Rogers
- Paris Lenon

This game is fun....I know a LOT of people just HATE EA, but I enjoy them :)

Someone's a UofM fan. lol

Lauranitis (sp?) is a good pick up in the draft as well.

I am with you on the EA part, they sold me this year by reinstalling the fantasy draft. That alone can sell me, just because I love to make my own team with my beloved Jags. Importing draft classes also is a big boost.
 
Yes, I love UofM....I even have a few more role players from the draft. I basically drafted all the UofM players (except Henne). Hopeing to get Manningham this year!
 
Anyone had any issues with Madden just FREEZING on them? It totally locks up my system. I'm in my third season currently, and I have had NO issues until now. I was able to play two games, but it froze probably a good 8 times...at random loading times basically.

my 360 makes more noise playing this game than any other game.
 
Doubledown my 360 does freeze occasionally. I'm in my 3rd season as well and when it happens (though very infrequently) it always happens in load screens.

And HighlightShow, is that the most enticing motivation you could come up with to find someone to play with?

I don't think you can "auto" sub in out, other than when your players are exhausted (if they stay red too long, they put in a backup). I sometimes use the depth chart to manually put someone else in.
 
I don't know what sliders are, anybody feel like explaining? Someone said they're like a handicap system but this confused me as I thought: Why wouldnt everybody just make the sliders as best as possible, especially when you can just adjust the difficulty?


Dude I'm in my 4th season I think, I had to get rid of my coach (they made me) and my new coach (shottenheimer) has a GLITCH HEAD! It's all white, like completely colorless white and he has some huge jagged thing stickin out of th side of his head and neck, it freaks me out everytime it cuts to show him on the sidelines. Its really annoying and fuckin pisses me off.

Does anybody know how to change the people on your kickoff and punt coverage team (not the returner, punter, kicker, or long snapper, the OTHER guys)???
