Madden 08

CAGiversary!
I have read that in this years version there are alot of bugs and glitches. I had the 07 version but didnt play it much due to the other launch games I had. From what I played I thought it was pretty good (had to adjust to the new controls from years on ps2). I have 08 reserved but havent had the chance to pick it up yet. So to those who have played both games what is your opinion on Madden 08 as compared to Madden 07.

I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but a friend who has says that the controls are a bit improved over the 07 version and that the graphics are very similar.

He played an online game as well last night, and besides playing against a quitting asshat, he was happy with the online experience as well.

I'm hoping to have a copy within a week or so to try it out for myself.

I played a few rounds on the Wii version. Controls are taking me a bit of time to get used to. I'm starting with the Wiimote only to get used to doing stuff like passing and whatnot. Gameplay seems typical Madden to me. Worth a rental at least if you are unsure.

I played a game online, and it was fine. Well, except for the fact I lost. :)

The game does seem glitchy to me, moreso than last year from what I remember. Weird stuff like hiking the ball and a pass being thrown immediately (?) and my favorite, what appears to be a BLUR FILTER on the field sometimes when you zoom out (I think this is what causes it). Very strange stuff. Can't believe some of this got through testing!

Having said that, the game itself is a lot of fun so far. Me likee!

Yeah I noticed the blur filter whenever the game does it dramatic cutaways whenever its a big playing coming up. Its a semi nice effect but much like crashing on "Motostorm" it gets old after the first few times. At least here you can hit the A button and skip past it.

I rented last years version and bought 08 yesterday. I have only had time to play a few games and it will take some time for me to get used to the controls. I keep trying to pass by just pressing the control pad for the receiver and not doing the throwing motion. I don't know if these controls are better, but it's my only system now.

I like it...I had been playing Madden on 360 for the past two years...I get Madden every year....It's good, it's like the pinnacle of the old engine with motion controls...Some of the controls are dope, like waving for a fair catch, others seem forced, like the juke move...it's a lot more "interactive" than playing it with a controller...just don't expect uber graphics...I'm enjoying it...If you are a football fan, it's a must buy...And if you haven't played Madden since Genesis, shame on you...You need to buy this...It's come a long way since those days.
anyone playing this on a widescreen TV? It's like my picture isn't centered, or something.
No problems on my end...You have component cables?

yeah, it might just be my setup. Do you notice much of a difference in this game with 480i vs 480p? cause both look like garbage to me. I don't have a super high end TV or anything, but this is the first game I've thought looks like trash.

I have a question that might seem dumb, but I haven't played very many games online before so I'm not sure. Last night i played my first game of madden online and the controls seemed to have a very noticeable response delay. Like I'd push a button and it wouldn't take for 1-2 seconds. Also while running i felt like i wasn't in control of the player at all. Is this an issue with my isp being slow, my opponents isp possibly being slow or is this just how it is with online console games? It really took the fun out of the game for me because i felt like i was totally at the mercy of the cpu deciding which way it was going to make me run.

I was up 20-3 (had just scored a td) in the 4th qtr when the bastard i was playing quit on me.

I haven't played it, but it doesn't appear to be just you. Their online system is really lagging, but apparently they're working on fixing it. See kids, this is what happens when you nix friend codes.

Thanks, hopefully they get that fixed cuz online is a major reason i waited to get 08.

I don't know how online play is because I have not been able to connect to play anyone yet. I set up my account but haven't gotten to play a game yet.

I haven't tried it in 480i, but yeah it doesn't look great in 480p...I had the PSP version last year, and it's a slight notch graphically above that...There are jaggies in 480p
I don't care if it looks like Wii Sports. I just wanna know how the kicking works, if the defence is good, and what these bugs that have been mentioned are.
The kicking works really well...I nailed a 53 yarder with plenty left, could have been good from 60 yards out...You start with the wiimote level facing the ground, then hold the trigger, raise the wiimote to face the tv, then release when the meter fills up...The more off level the wiimote, the more slice on a kick...It works well

The defense is great on this game actually...And I will say that the defense in the Wii version is better than the 360 version...I always find it difficult to tackle in that engine, something about the way they changed the momentum system for the next gen engine...Thrusting the wiimote/nunchuck forward lays a big hit on the computer, so it's really effective as a gameplay mechanic....Also when defending with a dback a flick of the wiimote has your guy go up and knock the ball down...It is without a doubt the most success I've ever had in Madden going back to the SNES/Genesis days as a dback...Usually you can't do shit on plays where the cpu lobs it up, and you switch to the closest guy and throw your arms up...But on the Wii version, it's more effective...

You need to take advantage of the TRU deal and buy this...You won't regret it, trust me.

Hey on the Wii version anyone noticed graphic problems

I.E.
-That on the EA Sports Live section (when you are picking plays) only shows like 3/4 of the screen and shows the other 1/4 as the background
-The logos of the teams during stats, only half or even 3/4 of it is cut off

So yeah is anyone else having problems with this or is this just EA's mistakes with rushing the game out?

And I also exchanged the game once already and same problems persist

I bought a copy for the 360, but I'm renting one for the Wii. I heard online mode can be buggy, or is it just dependent on whoever's connection?

Ok seriously, is there anyway at all to sort stats in franchise mode wen you go to individual stats. I tried every button and button combo under the sun, +/-/A/B/C/Z/C+Z/etc and the stats will not sort.

Slight correction, you hold A instead of the trigger when kicking...

No issues like that on my end...Running it in 480p

Online at times reminds me of playing NFL 2k1/NBA 2k1 on the dreamcast...Yeah, it's that laggy...But I still have a lot of fun playing it online...Don't buy this expecting too much from the online experience, you will be letdown.

Haven't tried yet...I've been messing with the rookie mode...Picked Jamarcus Russel...This mode is hot!! It's fun to f' around in practice mode...Gotta love how the audibles work in this game, with Cpep's voice coming out of the remote...

I have to say it again, I am very happy with this purchase...It's a very engrossing gameplay experience for a lifelong Madden fan.

I got a question. Everytime I try to setup an account on EA Nation, I get to the part where I fill out username, password, etc. but when I go to submit my info it always loses the connection. Anyone have any idea what I can do?

I just finally picked up 08 from Goozex, and started a franchise season. I got through 3 games (preseason) and I'm convinced this game is unplayable.

Here are the bugs that I found (in just three games):
1. QB throws ball immediately after hiking, without me doing anything. It happened 4 times. 3 times the ball was intercepted by a LB (it's usually a low, line drive).
2. QB doesn't hand off when he should. He just stands there and RB runs right by him. It happened 3 times. QB usually gets sacked.
3. The blurry screen right as the team gets up the line of scrimmage. Don't tell me that's a "feature". It's got to be a bug. It makes no sense.
4. Can't sort stats in franchise mode. I tried different button combinations but never found a way. See below...
Ok seriously, is there anyway at all to sort stats in franchise mode wen you go to individual stats. I tried every button and button combo under the sun, +/-/A/B/C/Z/C+Z/etc and the stats will not sort.
5. Froze the Wii during training camp. I think it was during a passing drill.
6. I can't get week 4 started in my franchise. I played weeks 1-3 of the preseason. Then when I got to week 4, I choose my game, and it says "Simulating games ......", then it freezes my Wii. I have to manually push the power button to get out of it.
So basically I can't continue my season. I tried it three times, then gave up.

I looked online and found that these bugs are well documented. I guess I should have checked first. I have played the PS2 version for years and never encountered bugs this bad, that's why I'm so surprised.

While Madden 08 sucks (particularly compared to 07), this is just an issue of you not understanding the motion mechanics completely. When you're hiking the ball, you're making a slight forward motion in reflex that triggers the throw right away.
