MAG Discussion Thread

Will be purchasing this along with Mass Effect 2 at TRU for the $20 off promo. I doubt I'll be opening up the game before I finish ME2 though, but I am looking forward to playing with some CAGs.

Thanks sean for posting that, I was going to find the blog post and come back, but totally forgot haha.

Anyway, the game also ships with Custom Soundtrack support as well, confirmed around comment 40 in the blog by the Zipper community guy.
It doesn't. It's a single player multiplayer game.
Even though we know what you mean, that sentence does sound pretty dumb. ;)

Anyway, I'm looking into this game, but I'm going to wait for some CAG feedback first. Hopefully it's a lot better than the beta.

So far so good. I put about 1.5 hours in and I'm close to level 5. I've had 0 lag and pretty much everyone is using mics so far.

Does this game make anyone else's PS3 run louder and get hotter? Maybe I'm just imagining things.

I picked this up from work, the Gamestop I went to had a midnight launch and they had a marine in his gear.

I'll put in some hours on this tomorrow. Add me if you want some games.

i finally got to level 8 for domination. but the queue is taking forever. so i gave up and decided to go to sleep. ive been playing sabotage because i can't figure how whats a fixable/usable machine in escort.

i had 7 ok games and one really good one where there was teamwork defending a checkpoint. there was a good mix of commandos, scouts?, and medics. we lost it a few times but got it back.

its funny seeing a bunch of guys that died and spawn and immediately rush towards a C checkpoint. it has a sense of realism as everyone is trying to achieve the same objective.

I made the CAG clan on sver. I don't know if it stuck or not. everyone is either choosing 1st SVER (gamestop) or 2nd valor (bestbuy). there is very little raven support; probably because Zipper should have given amazon the raven costume, not to gamecrazy.

Frank - I add you tomorrow.
Even though we know what you mean, that sentence does sound pretty dumb. ;)
That was intentional :)

Hope to see you all soon on MAG! I'll probably join Raven (the underdogs) or Valor (while I enjoyed playing SVER on the beta it seems everyone and their grandmas are going there)

I don't know, I hear about a lot of people joining SVER even in the beta phases but if you saw the online numbers it was for the most part even with two factions and the third one not being too far off.

I'll have to see the retail's online numbers to see if everyone is in SVER.

It is a shame if they are though, but I'm stuck since some people I know are in SVER and I want to play with them.

I don't mind at all, love the hockey masks.

The reviews are done from the final game. Press servers went up on Monday. How many character slots do they give you in final game?

Anyone come across any good articles/videos that detail the differences/back stories between the factions? I have this coming in from Amazon. Hopefully the patches won't be as monstrous as SOCOM, which is what put me off with that game.

Edit: Just noticed my post was below smog's. Enjoyed playing SOCOM, btw, I just didn't like having to leave my console on for hours to update the game.

Hey no worries man. Multiple gb updates are horrible no matter how great the game.
Character slots as in loadouts? 5
When you boot the game & the little PDA comes up where you select your character. Is it more than 1 in the final game?

You can only create one character (one faction), but create 5 templates of loadout for that character

Just got this in the mail today and I'm looking forward to checking it out in a bit. I like the design of the manual, disc, and back of the cover.

Thanks

Like people have said. One faction slot at first. But when you hit lvl 60, you can start over with a new faction and keep the old slot with all your stats and goodies intact. You can do it three times for each faction to get the platinum trophy (lvl 60 with 3 factions.)

You can check the mag blog/facebook (google it, I forgot the exact link) to check the backstories of each PMC's.

Btw, opening cutscene is sick.

Damn, not sure if I like Raven. I was looking for something that reminded me of the SOCOM player models/guns look, but maybe I should've gone with Valor instead. Everything's too damn shiny on this side.

i choose SVER b/c it has the most people now to reach 60 easier. i hope that as more people get the game and level up to 60 that they will eventually populate the lonely raven.

fuck sver.

Anyway, this game is fantastic when people get over their ego K/D ratio and really start playing as a team.

I am loving it so far....Valor is getting their ass beat in the shadow war...so is Raven. I have only won 1 match as Valor but eventually we will pull through.

feel free to add me. im a sver lvl 13 medic so far (full revive!).

its so frustrating that there isn't enough people to populate domination.

Switched to Valor and even though I've lost every match I've played in (was doing pretty well with Raven), I like it much better. The assault rifle feels much better and I don't feel like I have to empty a whole clip unlike with Raven's assault rifle.

This game is fucking crazy. I have never had so much fun before. Its funny watching the people a little too used to COD try to run up and stab you.....I have seen more than a few people forgo trying to shoot me and instead sprint towards me......5 seconds and 20 bullets later they are respawning.

The game is much much harder than COD because there is no auto aim whatsoever. So if you are not good at FPS you will most likely not be able to hit anyone at any range. Although, on the other hand the game isnt about K/D at all so dying a lot wouldnt really matter to anyone other than yourself. If yo are good at getting objectives done then you could probably still have a lot of fun.

I vote no though.

fuck if I know man. I just avoid them, I am pretty sure you can arm a bomb if you get to the base of the turret though.
How do you destroy the machine guns in Acquisition?
Arm it with a bomb, you have to get to that bunker/turrent and arm it with circle.

Either that or bazooka shots, I'm not sure how many but I know they deal damage and destroy it.
This game any good for someone who isnt THAT good at FPS? I have mw2 and its fun but i always die fast lol.
You could be a medic or a sniper to be in a safe position. Also remember that the maps are enormous so it's not going to be like COD and having to watch every corner to see if you'll die or not.

But there is no auto-aim, so I'm not sure what answer to give you. Lol. Play it long enough and you'll be good. I wasn't into FPS' til I gave them a shot and thought about how to get better.

Any other Valor players here that would be interested in playing together? Missing out on a big part of the game with everyone just running around on their own.

Ah, thanks. Not sure if I'd ever go for that upgrade any time soon, I want to get my medic upgrades first.

Don't you start with one Bazooka already unlocked (I think it's loaded by default on loadout 3)? The Bunker's machine gun do take a lot of bazooka shots to take down, but it's possible (of course, it can be repaired)

You can also use the .50 cal sniper rifle

If your talking about the machine turret's then it took more than a single soldier's 3-rpg's to bring down, then if you add in the defensive repairs going on it can take alot of hits before its disabled (at least that was how was during the betas)

I went with Valor and am beginning to feel like I did choosing the Alliance in WoW =P Only won 2 games so far, but I've having fun. One big complaint though, the red dots above enemy heads need to go away, it ruins things and gives up movement that should be otherwise concealed.

This is probably a dumb question but I want to make sure I got this right. If I start a S.V.E.R. character and get to lvl 9 or whatever and decide I want to go with Raven and switch then decide to go back to S.V.E.R. would I have to start over at 0? It seems like there is only one spot to create one character and if you want to switch you wipe everything out...this is kind of disappointing unless I'm missing something.

That being said I'm really enjoying this game right now otherwise.

That is correct. I like it, it provides loyalty and rivalry among all the PMC's.

Ok, I guess that's a good point. However it'll be hard for me to choose a side without playing around with each one a little bit. I tried out S.V.E.R. and it seems pretty fun but it's hard to know without checking out the other armies. I was very interested in Raven at first but then I heard a lot of people upset about the damage their weapons were doing. Guess I'll just have to give it a try for myself.

That's true but you can still try out all the default guns with each factions at level 0 then make your decision and if you know what you want to specialize in you only have to level up a bit to get the bottom tier weaponry.

I already have the PSK LMG for SVER. It was worth 5 points.

frank - what other load outs do you recommend?

ive been using the vispera2 with full medic gear + grenade and AP mines. but i noticed that its really hard to get lots of kills, especially for those 30+ kill ribbons. once in a while, i scavenge assault rifles with scopes. wow, its so easy to kill people.

i havent noticed a lot of CAGs playing the game. Is it because there's not a lot of interest?

on brighter notes, im way half to being an OIC.

Yeah if any CAGs want someone to add to their list go ahead and add me. My PSN is Frankysox I don't have a mic right now but if enough CAGs start playing I'll pick one up.

Decided to give ME2 a break and played this a bit. It sucks that all the CAGs are spread out between the PMCs but if there are any Raven people out there, add me!

I'm thinking about Raven, I'm going to try them out later and if I end up choosing them I'll add you.
