MAG Discussion Thread

I played the game like crazy though the smaller maps (before level 10) in the hope that the large maps with vehicles and what not would be more entertaining. I was not pleased. I found the game to be clunky and overall just not worthy of my time or money.

For whatever reason I just can't get over the fps experience I had with Battlefield 2, and no games seem to be able to live up to the fun that I had playing that online. I was kind of hoping that this would be a next-gen, rpg-ish version of the Battlefield 2 game released on PS2 and Xbox.

To those that preordered from Amazon: It seems the SVER HOME code was a hot commodity for a while and sold between $40 to $60 on ebay. Those HOME fans are a really dedicated bunch

We have had a few memorable matches (on SVER) trying to keep track of where support is needed for my squad and team but it gets pretty chaotic sometimes. Mix in the camping enemy that seem to just want kill points.

Have you noticed when playing other games, no one seems to use the FRAGO ? makes it hard to really focus on the most important objective.

the other night I tried to keep all four of our frontline turrets going, and no one else seemed to have a repair kit, only good thing was I went up 2 levels at least..
i forgot i can promote people. ill promote you guys tomorrow.

kandal is a really good mechanic. maybe hes a better SL than I am. lol. sometimes i think its stressful setting up fragos, waiting for strikes, defusing c4s, reviving and getting the occasional kill. I wonder how am I supposed to get the rest of these ribbons?

i joined a game with someone on my friend's list. to my surprise, i found out that hes an OIC that never setup a fargo. the game that i joined had his buddy as the SL. Some of us were yelling at him to setup a fargo. A kick vote was going but there wasn't enough votes. Then it occured to me if he didn't how to setup one up. I explained the process of setting a fargo up. But nothing happened.

in all the domination games that Ive been, I haven't heard the OIC. whats worst is theyre playing like rambo. all this time, i respectively declined the position. if youre an OIC, then at least dont die. stay in the back of the group and stay alive. your leadership bonus aura of armor resistance and health regen is too important to the squads around you. well, im not that the level of OIC since im not well versed in the tactics of sensor jammers, rapid deploys and etc.

frankied14 - i didnt noticed that you got kicked from the game until it was over (domination defense sver). the squad had great communication and balance. there were callouts every few minutes. people were proactive in fixing tripleA, roadblocks and/or bunker. i thought myself this is why frank is so high level. then i find out that i wasn't even talking to you.

Frisky - i found out that it takes 6 kick votes (out of squad of 8, well 7 not including the kickee) to kick someone out. wow, thats incredibly hard.
yea, sorry I had to leave, but it was so screwed up. I was looking forward to playing with you too, but the game totally glitched on me. (second time now - had a parachute glitch where all the controls get reverse, happened to me in the beta too.) Yea, I spawned and it wouldnt let me leave the bunker, and when I suicided myself, it froze. I hard reset my ps3, but it wouldn't let me rejoin your game then..... so I said, screw it, I'll play another time.

I did play with frank deluded a bit and it was a great time. He's definitely a good guy to play with.

I'm glad lots of you guys are repair specialities too, because i'm a huge offense type of guy. Just ask frank deluded. Getting 35 kills in a match is not uncommon for me. I have a lot of those grim reaper badges. I think the one round with frank deludud I had 62 kills and like 20 deaths or something. The other round was more like 37 and 30. So yea, I can wreck havoc in that way. ;) but yea,, it pissed me off, especially when im oic or squad leader and need something essential repaired, and no one will repair it!!!

I'll probably be playing tonight if anyone wants to squad up. Just add me on psn and hit me up!

Son of a *****. I gave my SVER code away to a CAGer xD

He probably sold it too lol.

Jking, I hope he didn't though. :(
I'm just not a PS3 fan, I've heard about it and it looks ok but I know I won't like it. What are the load times like, if they are anything like Socom it will be an instant FAIL. My friend sounds interested though.
About 10 seconds to get from main menu to lobby, and about 15 more to get into the actual game once its launched.

Yeah, I can vouch for the Grimace. The dude is the Grim Reaper personified.

I'm a jack of all trades. I've gotten repair, grim reaper, healing ribbons; numerous times. I do it all baby.

How fast does an OIC regenerate health of his squadmates, btw?

has anybody unlocked the health bonus skill yet? I respeced like 4 times already, and keep finding lots of unlocks are a waste. For example, the highest tier machine gun and assault rifle kinda suck in my opinion. The shotgun and submachine guns sucked too. I'm nearing my probable last respect (as its going to cost 17000 to do) and I want to make it count. Im leaning towards most the healing, explosive, machine gun, and athletic specs. Has anyone been a sniper yet? There's some maps where I will get sniped down from a mile away, and that seems awesome to me, but I havent explored this category at all. I actually had better results blind firing the stock sniper rifle in close range combat because it takes like 2 shots to kill someone with it. lol.

I use the highest tier machine gun. 100 bullets in the clip and great stopping power, if you're decent at aiming you can kill people from mid range and it's obviously great up close.

That's just me though. I love mowing down a couple of guys firing from the hip. I've done it a bunch of times.

I'll probably get improved repairing next and unlock the extra health.

Health bonus gives you extra 20 HP which is nice so that you can take an extra bullet or two. Personally, I didn't find it useful unless somehow you managed to fight another soldier in an 1-on-1 fight or play defense.

As far as the LMG vs AR debate, I have to say that the LMG outclasses the AR except in three areas: Stealth, attachments (i.e. ACOG & Grenade Launcher), and light-weight. It makes no sense that LMGs have nearly the same accuracy as AR's, but whatever--another Zipper fail. I prefer ARs for mobility and the ACOG for counter-sniping. I also find 2nd tier ARs seem to handle more better than the other tiers. Just my preference. :whistle2:k

:O that health bonus is pretty substantial is my opinion. if it was 10, then no, but 20 is decent. that one extra bullet you can take is the matter between life and death, disarming or arming a target, or healing someone or not. As a very up in your face type of player, I'm definitely going to get it this time around.

i finally got around to respec. i found out that it only takes 3,000 out of my 40,000 to respec. lol. with my respec, i went for that health bonus. just for kicks, i went into suppression. i felt like the terminator with the LMG package, enhanced armor, and medkit. i agree with frankied14 that 20 does make a huge difference.

my question is whats better sver tier lmg or tier 2 lmg? the tier 2 is slower but i feel that i can get 2-3 (nonhead) shot kills. the tier 1 is lighter. to me, it feel likes like an AR with the scope speed movement but doesnt have the stopping power as the tier 2.

I doubt we have the same weapons, since being in different factions. For Valor its the SAW or the M60. The M60 was a waste the only thing you get is stopping power, but the SAW with all attachments and upgrades rapes. IDK what kind of weapons you guys have though. What I am trying to say is a little over a half of a bar on the guns stats is not worth the very little stopping power you get compared to all the other pluses.

My reasoning was that its good if your opponent goes for body shots, but that 20hp is negated with Tier 3 Sniper rifles, knives, rocket launchers, or headshots (this one especially). Its fun picking off people on the fly.

Yeah, I kind of wish the weapons were a bit more varied than a tiny bar each.

definitely the first tier LMG. the last tier LMG is much more powerful, but its kickback (even with the upgrades) and slow fire made it worthless to me.

I tend to notice in any shooters that while damage specs are appealing, they usually aren't that substantial compared to rate of fire and stability specs. I usually end up choosing a faster firing more stable and weaker gun over a more powerful one any day. The more bullets you can get into someone and the faster it happens makes much more a difference then the damage factor.

Jumping a bridge here, this was especially true for battlefield bad company. I played that game a ton ( still do but on hiatus waiting for the 2nd one), and after spending so much time with all the guns, I can wreck the most havoc with the faster fire but weaker guns compared to the slower fire but super elephant gun damage types.

ANYWAY, back to the point, no, i dont like the 2nd tier LMG. The 2nd tier assault rifle is better, but then the 3rd tier one sucks. I haven't tried the sniper rifles yet, but they DO actually appear promising.

I recall everyone kept saying all the factions pretty much has the same weapons, or at the least. they all handled the same way. After picking up other factions weapons more recently, I can say this is totally not true at all. Picked up a Raven Machine gun the other day and it was totally different then SVERs machine guns. Handled different, aimed different. It was interesting

Respec'd my character last night and built up my health, though the matches after that weren't exactly great for resuscitation as my squad mates tended to die in the middle of firefights.
I'll just throw it out there, the second sver AR is awesome. I can't wait to get the 4x scope.
I like that gun, too, but I'm just not a fan of that 4x scope.

After hearing some opinions, it sounds like the 3rd tire AR isn't worth it.... I guess I'll have to buy a silencer to get to the grenade launcher then?

The only clan I see mentioned here regularly is the SVER clan that enufs8d is running.

I'll probably try out Raven and SVER on alt accounts after Lost.

Just got the game today. Are CAGs playing together? Is there a preferred CAG faction?
The majority of the CAGs here seem to be on S.V.E.R. then Valor (like myself and Anorexicwes) , and finally Raven.

Also congrats Raven on their domination win today, that was one hell of a fight.

I have been playing the crap out of MW2, but I haven't touched it since MAG came out. It might not be your thing if you are into the fast pace of MW2 though, or if you prefer playing solo rather than communicating and stuff.

What can I do to get my respec up quicker? I tried some new stuff out that really didnt work and it seems like I only get 50 or less respec points each match.
Respec points = EXP...
That cant be right can it?

I average around 500-700 xp points a game and it doesnt seem to be jumping up as quickly.

Although that could be just me perception because I have been waiting for what seems like forever to respec.

Also broke my first 1000 xp game when we kicked Sver ass in Domination, I have hit 900 a couple times before but could never break a grand.

This game is so damn fun its insane.

I would only respec, if you screwed up like I did buy getting the 2nd machine gun. Don't unlock that thing if your on Valor. I got the maxed out SAW, extra health with running further, really good unlock there and the resurrection skill as well. I think I am going for explosives next.

Yeah your respec points are the same thing as your EXP, but its not like it takes your your EXP away though. After the first respec it goes from 3000 to 5000, but I only have respeced once.

We have the same skill set except I invested in the AR and the attachments. The explosive skill is really neat since it lessons the damage from mortars, bombings, and nades. You'll like it.

As for respec points: 3000 (1st time) > 5000 (2nd) > 10000 (3rd). I don't know how many more is after that before the level cap. I only respected twice for trophy reasons.

Yea my wife surprised me and got this for me for Valentines Day. I played Raven on the Beta and it seemed like no one talked. I pretty much built up my medic skills and used an AR will that work as well on SVER?

wait valentines day? *looks at calendar.... hmmm.

Got up to lvl 15 on my Valor character and lvl 4 on my SVER character in just an hour. Those bases are definitely easy to defend on SVER's maps.

GUYS my Amazon Order with be coming in today . What side should I choose Valor, SVER, or Raven . Please help me choose ....Is there a CAG/GameNigt setup ( clan of some sort ) ....if so what side are they , PLEASE ANSWER THANKS

there's a CAG sver clan going on here. Theres about 8 or 9 people in it now. Theres also some CAG raven and valor players here, but I don't think any of them made a clan yet.

cheapy - I say join sver because its the most newbie friendly. SVER has the most people and wins the most. If you're new to the game, absolutely don't pick Raven. If don't want anyone to be turned away from the game because you keep losing battle after battle.

theres no official cag night. its too hard because everyone on cag is split up among the 3 factions.

its more like hey you're online playing mag. me too. lets party up. hopefully, you'll get my message and join right away. or ill be waiting 20 minutes for you to finish or get impatient start my own game.

Won some nice matches against SVER today attacking on sabotage.

I have to force myself to put this down and go to bed. I just want to see Valor get an edge on the meters over SVER!!

And again, any Valor, please add me, I don't suck- I promise!
Good games today, along with 2EZ clan. Our squad seemed to be a huge factor in all of our victories.
Yeah, great games yesterday Sorry I had to leave so early, had personal stuff I had to do (like eat and stuff, why do I even bother!). Good games with 2EZ and CAG members. My mic had issues on the big domination match. I actually didn't know I was squad leader until half way in the match, sorry guys.

Will try and be on again tonight, this game is too much fun honestly. Also, if ya play with me, I am a medic first, so just call out and I will go to ya like Kendal did once and I ran all the way from one side to the other, its what I do best although I always seem to get a ton of kills as well.

Player Roles in M.A.G.

• 8 player squads

- Inspiration from real life military operations

- 4 squads form a platoon, 4 platoons form the company

- Each squad, platoon, and company have specific objectives to complete along with secondary objectives assigned by OIC

- Allows for a team dynamic even when not in a clan, so the game is more approachable by casual players as well as hardcore players

• Lead by people who are "proven" to be good leaders

- Squad Leaders vs Even higher Chains of Command

- After reaching a veteran level, players can enlist in the leadership tree

- Squad leaders can plot waypoints and call in UAVs

- Proven squad leaders can be promoted to platoon leaders

- Leaders can issue FRAGO commands (Fragmentary Orders), in which they assign an objective by clicking a button that tells the squad to complete something like destroying a bridge

• Officer in Charge (1 per team, highest level of command)

- Has the ability to call on Strategic Maneuvers, which affect all players on one side or the other

- Tactical Asset Recharge is an example manuever that recharges the squads leaders abilities to call in air strikes, special abilities, etc.

- Abilities include satellite recon sweeps, enemy blockades, signals jamming, air bombardments, precision strikes, etc.

- Still a player on the ground like everyone else

- Players around him gain better abilities, like running faster, planting a bomb faster, etc.

• Leaders have access to the Command Network Interface (CNI), which is a tactical map overview that allows them to zoom and scan the map and show objective locations, etc.

Info from M.A.G. Forums

Character Development
• Character advancement tree to fine-tune your character

- Character development is about customization, personalizing, and specializing

- Not a linear progression benefiting the player (ex. not like COD, Battlefield)

• Character customization (face, voice, armor)

• Each player carries a primary weapon, sidearm, melee weapon, and three gear perks (smoke grenades, frags, med kits, rocket launchers)

- Can save three loadouts in your armory and switch freely when you respawn

• No set classes

- Free-form kit creation

- You earn skill points and decide how to spend them

- Another example is sprinting where you can increase sprint duration by sinking EXP into it if you're the kind of player that wants to get around in a hurry

• Earn double experience for completing objectives, killing enemies, healing teammates, etc.

- As an example, a sniper can earn extra points by killing enemies in a target area that you are attacking

- Earn weapons, perks, and leadership positions as you rank up

- Reward players for working as a team

• Medal/Award system

Info from M.A.G. Forum

Game Modes
• Domination (256 players)

- Attackers start scattered along the map edges and move on foot or ride in one of a few transport vehicles

- Defenders must take outer defensive positions to meet the oncoming attackers

- Each defending squad is responsible for holding specific areas of the base

- Attackers must eliminate front line defense emplacements (bunkers, turrets, tank traps)

- Once in the inner base, attackers must take down anti-aircraft batteries and radar sensors

- Destroying things like the anti-aircraft batteries allow the attacking team to launch UAVs

- Attackers must capture and hold objectives and inflict enough damage to the defenders base to win

• Acquisition (128 players)

- Escort style requiring attackers to steal two prototype transports from a rival faction and escape to the extraction point.

• Sabotage (64 players)

- Attackers must infiltrate rival communication facilities and hold two control points at the same time

- Once achieved, a final demolition objective is revealed and must be destroyed to win

• Suppression (64 players)

- Pure infantry battle

- Only mode that does not contribute to the "Shadow War"

Info from M.A.G. Forums

Factions
• Three warring factions / Private Military Corporations (Raven, Sver, Valor)

- Their power struggle is dubbed the "Shadow War"

- You must declare your allegiance to one faction when starting the game

- Your PSN friends can only be on your team if they are in the same army as you

- You can change your allegiance

- Each battle you fight impacts your factions standing

- Team with the most prestige plays as the defending team

- Once your faction wins enough in a specific mode, your faction gains the contract for that mode

- Earning contracts gives you bonus points, perks, weapons, or vehicles

• Raven

- High-tech futuristic weapons

- Play style will appeal to fans of sci-fi shooters.

• Sver

- Weapons arsenal may not be as powerful, but players are more adaptable and resourceful

- Weapons look more scavenged and do-it-yourself

- Their aggressive, adaptable attitudes more than make up for their second hand rifles

- Noticeable trait: graffiti markings around areas and on their weapons

• Valor

- Very much like your traditional modern day Marine

- Tough and rugged

C.A.G. - M.A.G. Faction Roster List

Ok, I went back to the release day to try and make a list of who and who is in what faction byCAG usernames and their PSN ID's (thank you, Snake2715 & Romis for providing PSNs). Contact these members for their PSN. If your on different faction than you were before (like going veteran status) then let me know since I had to base most of these by association. Not many people blurted out what faction they were on. Use this list to add other fellow CAGs within your faction.

Very nice, you guys can add me for Valor, but I don't have a mic. Besides the official headset, what is the cheapest one you guys would recommend? You can use bluetooth headsets right?

Yeah, I use the official PS3 headset. It works great if you have it and yes bluetooth headsets work.
