Ok, call me a picky collector, but I got word from NIS America that no copies of Makai or Atelier have the PS2 sticker seal on the top edge of the case.

Does anyone happen to have a copy of either game with the seal?

Thanks

I am doubting their word :)

Not to say they are not right, but it does not hurt to check. Re-reading my post I can see that I wasn't very clear, sorry.

I'm pretty sure most of the distributers ditched that seal a few months ago. I haven't bought a new game in at least 5 months that had it on there...

from a gamer point of view, that seal is useless.

Oh really? The seal isn't to be placed in the factory seal slot in the PS2 (/sarcasm!).

j/k with ya, just thought it was funny :)

I am near OCD with games and try to keep them all sealed or opened/pristine, it bugs me that when I look at my NIS games from the top that those 2 are missing the seals (go head, laugh at me!)

When I bought Atelier, it made me a little nervous. I was looking at Greatest Hits games at Best Buy, though, and you can see that the idea has been abandoned (some copies of a title had it, and copies of the same title did not).
I prefer the labels, but whatever works, I suppose.

That's sort of a shame if they really ditched the seal - I actually thought it was a good idea. Especially when companies like EB or Gamestop, or even a sketchy eBay seller, would try to pawn off a used game as new. At least with those seals on top, you could pretty sure they weren't tampered with. Of course, you could always open the case and carefully nudge it to get the disc out, but who knows....

I am not positive, but I am fairly sure the cellophane wrap is difficult for your average ebayer to replicate. So I guess we just need to look out for that.

A few months back, back when Stella Deus and Area 51 came out, I started noticing PS2 games no longer carried the top seal. Older games will of course still have it, but new prints of older games will not (i.e. I saw some copies of ESPN MLB 2K5 with the seal and some without). The good news is it is fairly easy to tell if the shrinkwrap is factory sealed by looking at the creases at the top.

This has nothing to do with NIS at all. All games currently being churned out of Sony's replication facilities no longer have a sticker on them. First game I recall seeing that didn't have one was when Stella Deus came out. Since then, each and every new release and reprint has been sans stickers.

I purchased a game at Bestbuy and it had a hole in the right side of the case with a lock/unlocked icon... Is that also standard fare? Or Bestbuy's new policy.
