The new SRPG in the Nippon Ichi series, Makai Kingdom is shipping on July 26th, I believe. What's weird is that I haven't read anywhere about preorder bonuses at any of the big stores, but Nippon Ichi offers a great preorder bonus themselves.

Preorder the game at NISamerica.com (Nippon Ichi's own website) and you can score a 40 page artbook, and a decal of one of the characters. That's not a bad little haul.

There's the link, the preorder campaign starts on July 1st, 2005 at 10:00 am.

I wonder if this one is going to fall pretty fast like Phantom Brave did. Also, anyone have any more information on the art book. The last couple art books that have come as bonuses have been really weak (PB, especially and PoP: WW). 40 pages does sound good though.

No other information... as of right now, the preorder deal is only though NIS America, and that's the only information they've put up.
God help me, I really need to stop buying games I have no interest in just because of pre-order bonuses.
Why would you be interested in the pre-order bonus if you are not interested in the game?

anyone know if the art book will be hard cover or paperback
Why would you be interested in the pre-order bonus if you are not interested in the game?
Mistake in judgement, I suppose.

The last pre-order deal I was Woo Hoo! about was when you pre-ordered two games off a list from EB that netted you $20 in GV's, plus when you ordered game + guide from the same list, you netted $15, and they could stack together to net out $50 worth of GV's.

Since then, I think I've been Meh about most of them.
Why would you be interested in the pre-order bonus if you are not interested in the game?
Collection reasons. I could wait another year or two (or price drop) on Makai Kingdom since I still haven't finished any of the last three Nippon Ichi games released in the US but I just can't miss out on a potentially cool looking limited edtion art book

Art books are sexy that's why. I have art books to games I hardly ever/never play. Have I looked at my Tekken 5 artbook recently? No but it's still cool to have.

I see. Your post made it sound like you had zero interest in the game, which obviously isn't the case. You just would have waited for a price drop.

The way the announcement is phrased, I suspect the art book will be available wherever you pre-order it, whereas the decal is an extra bonus you can only get from them.

I thought so too, but neither Gamestop or EB has the art book as a preorder bonus, but both have the right date (and Gamestop even has the cover art).

I imagine if they were going to add a bonus, they would have done it by now, because I'd prefer to get it from Gamestop, but no dice.

Called the store, and they also told me no preorder bonus is planned.

And that, friends, is why they have preorder bonuses...

I've got to go with Strider on this one; I have fallen victim to the preorder bonus many times of late. I now have several games in my collection that I would never have purchased on release day if not for the preorder bonuses that came with them.

I also think that there are many of us who have been burned in the past by not getting other games that had cool preorder items, and then watching them become collector's items.

When in doubt, ask:

Hello!

Thank you for taking your time to contact us, NIS America, Inc.

The artbook will be also available at EBGames and GameStop; however, the Pram Decal is only available through NISA online shop! So please don’t forget to take advantage of the deal!

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Hiroko Nelson

There are also some of us that have been screwed by crappy pre-order bonuses, ala the Phantom Brave art book.

I thought the soundtrack was the bonus. The art pamphlet was just leftovers...

i KNOW makai kingdom is going to be one hell of a game, but due to NIS's sudden popularity, I expect the game to drop like normal games, i guess i can wait a few months.
I thought the soundtrack was the bonus. The art pamphlet was just leftovers...
No, the soundtrack came with the Limited Edition version, which was still available well beyond the preorder time. I think they called the soudtrack a preorder bonus, but it really wasn't cause even after the game dropped to $20, EB and/or Gamestop still had LE's available with the soundtrack.

Same with Atelier Iris then too? I was thinking of picking this up to get the soundtrack, but now I am not so sure. Doesn't it come out soon....?

I really wanted to wait for makai and atelier to drop - but now I now i need to buy makai right off for bonuses and if the ost is a bonus to atelier...same thing applies.

Next Tuesday.

The soundtrack for Atelier Iris got shipped way early, since the game got a sudden delay but the preorder bonus got shipped out last month when the game was supposed to arrive.

I got the last one at Gamestop a few weeks ago... Nippon Ichi barely sent enough for preorders, as what I was told.

I've been told by a couple different GameStops that another batch of the preorder CD's is expected when the game arrives. They may be BSing me since I preordered the game long before they even announced the CD, and they didn't want to make me angry at them because they already "gave out" out all the CD's they got.

These games are definitely going to drop like normal games due to the attention they're receiving (being Nippon Ichi games). Plus Atelier Iris isn't very fun and the soundtrack is pretty bad music. Collectable I guess. I'm holding out that Makai will be an awesome game tho.

You're kidding right. I have the ost on my computer and listen to it with pleasure. It reminds me of Lunar's music.

Also, what are the odds that if we wait for a price drop that this game will still have the ost?

Slim, its not included in game like Phantom Brave. I also just heard that a memo was sent out to stores telling them that AI is in short supply. take that how you will

Hm... I was thinking of cancelling my preorder and picking it up later, too many sales going on at once and not enough cash to buy a 49.99 game right now.

But if this is true, I guess I'll just have to fork out the cash.

Atelier Iris got a 8.5-8.75 from GI. Its more than enough of a worthy game to get for $50. Makai Kingdom doesnt look all that great.

Just bumping this up, game comes out in two weeks, so get your preorders in soon.

Gamestop and EB's website are also now including the guide for preorder, too.

Guide book comes out FRIDAY, and it's made by Doublejump, so you know it's awesome. It's one guide I'll buy ASAP and won't wait for it to be pennied out.

Do the stores give you the artbook ahead of time? Or when you come to pick up the game?
Do the stores give you the artbook ahead of time? Or when you come to pick up the game?
I can let you know tommorrow when I go preorder it.

I have a feeling you'll get it when it comes in, unless the game suddenly gets delayed but the preorder bonus still ships (like with atelier iris).

Gamestop used to give preorder bonus's ahead of time... but people would just grab the preorder bonus, cancel the preorder, and Gamestop would be screwed for the legitimate customers.

Preorder it online just to be safe... only reason I can't is because of trade in credit using that 50% coupon.

Wah what is this "a portion of your order will be backordered"?

This better not turn out like Outpost cancelling my Xenosaga 2 bonus.

EDIT: With $10 shipping (for game + strategy guide) and with no guarantee of getting the bonuses I'm gonna have to pass and just pick up the game/guide in store. Too bad I could've used a cool decal like that...

I'm swinging by my EB on Friday to get Bard's Tale (PS2) for $10. I'll probably drop the cash for a Makai Kingdom pre-order and the DJ guide too--assuming EB has artbooks left...

Preordered the guide and game with trade in credit today.. .thank god for the GS 50% coupon, turned 33 dollars into 66.

Game was 50, guide was 16 since I got 20% off for getting them at the same time (guide is usually 19.99).

I was told the artbook is coming when the game ships.

What GS 50% coupon?

And wouldn't that coupon be 200% if it turned $33 into $66?

Is the pre-order artbook by chance a 40 page paperback booklet that says 'MAKAI KINGDOM Artwork' on the front below the title?

Because when I was at Fry's looking for Coded Arms, I saw a stack of these behind on the counter and thought they were brochures so I asked the sales rep if I could take one and she shrugged and handed me one. It has an Illustration Gallery, Character & World Guide, and Exclusive Drafts section in the table of contents.

If so, then sweet! I lucked out. Too bad I'm not an NIS fan.
What GS 50% coupon?
The coupon is This Months Game Informer.

BTW Slidecage Atelier Iris is at least an 8 Rating. U cant play the game for only 2 hours because in those times they only have explanations. I beat the game in 30 hours and I did most of the Missions except for maybe 3 (20-30 missions total)

The coupon says you get 40% more trade in value (x2) on every game that you trade in - you have to trade in 4 games, and it combines with the 10% Gamestop card to make it 50%.

Did it actually look like it was worth a damn. I am guessing it looked pretty cool from your post, but just wanted to be sure I understood you right.

Been really looking forward to this game. Passed on Stella and Iris just so I could get Makai Kingdom and the Guide. I ordered my copy of both this morning. I'm sure the Pram Decal and Artbook are worthless, but from the previews and screenshots this game looks as though it could actually be better then Disgaea. I can't wait!

Disgaea isnt really a good game. Its an OK game. It ranks a 8 rating same at Atelier.
Baten Kaitos and Tales of Symphonia is way better than those games.

Well the art is pretty cool but like I said, I thought it was just some small promo brochure kinda like how Nintendo has a brochure for DS as does Sony for PSP. It's paper back like a magazine so the front and back cover aren't really cardboard like a normal book would be. I personally wouldn't pre-order the game just for this. hell, if you lived nearby, I'd just give it to you.

yeah, like b3b0p said, it's close to worthless unless you're a real sucker for the art.

Thanks! I'll likely pass on a preorder then and just pick it B&M when it comes out. Now if the guide was still a bonus, I'd be all over a preorder. The "book" sounds alot like the Phantom Brave one but just a bigger. That one was a waste.

The guide never was a bonus... where did you hear that at?

I don't think Doublejump Books would let their 19.99 guide be given away for free, espically since they barely put out any guides as it is.
