Mario Kart DS Ass Kicking/Chat thread

How do you get the great jump start ? I've tried @ 1 sec and @ 2 secs. So far no luck. Cant seem to find any info on here as well.
 
Any CAG's waiting for a friend race to start? I'm waiting for one and it's just been me and another person waiting for the thing to start for about 5 mintes
 
I'll be on for a little bit if anyone wants to play. I might be playing a Rivals game, but just do a Friends Search and I'll see the little blue icon and join as soon as I can.
 
Sorry about that J-Funk, for some reason I get disconnected everytime I try and do a friends list game. To top it off, I also get a loss... 80% of my losses are from disconnects right now... very annoying.
 
I'm on right now looking for friend races. I saw someone was looking for one, and right as I finished the 4th race in the match I was in whoever it was stopped looking.

Hmm... can I ask how you put your DS int he DMZ? Can it have an IP if I can't get it to connect to my connection in the first place? :/
 
Does it freeze up on anybody else when you try to quit after the congratulations or defeat page? I've had it happen a couple of times already...

I checked the DHCP table on my router and found the IP address of the DS and put that IP in the DMZ. I'm not sure that it did anything but it was worth a shot.
 
yeah it was wierd, the first time i've actually lagged playing, suppose it is destined to happen once and a while though...
 
I played against a R.O.B. player this afternoon in a Worldwide match. He beat me on Luigi's Mansion (by a hair), and then I beat him on Delfino Plaza (with the help of triple mushrooms right at the last turn). Ok, the thing is, he had picked Sky Garden for the second match (I picked Delfino). So he chooses Sky Garden for the 3rd race and I choose it as well to be nice.

All is going well, I'm right behind him for the whole first lap, then all of the sudden he disappears into the clouds. I started laughing b/c I thought he had fallen off and then he suddenly appears in front of me. Ok, so I started to get suspicious and got caught back up with him on the 2nd lap. Sure enough, he flies into the clouds again and ends up ahead of me. So the third lap, I decide I'm going to follow exactly what he does. He does the same thing except I fall into space and he keeps right on trucking.

Apparently, there is a nifty shortcut on Sky Garden about 3/4 of the way through the track. Just as the track is making a right-hand turn, there is a group of clouds straight in front of you that you can "hop" across and cut an entire corner of the track out. I didn't realize he was jumping them, I thought he was using some glitch where Lakitu put him further ahead of me.

So of course on the 4th race he picks Sky Garden again, and it manages to get picked. I still didn't know the trick so he smoked me again. It's pretty lame to pick the same track 3 times in a row on the chance that some MK noob (like me) will not know the shortcut and you can rack up easy wins.

Just a heads up to others that don't know the shortcut so you won't get screwed.

I also played against a guy this afternoon that only picked Rainbow Road the entire time. I hit 'em up with 2 Baby Parks and powerslid his ass off the course.
 
IGN had said that it is difficult to chooose your friends to play a race.

is this true? or were they just talking about 1on 1 races?

im planning on getting a DS soon but i would like to race a couple of my real friends 1 on 1.
 
ditto, my list is full and I've raced with 3 people on it, wish the interface was a little better, instead of just searching for people.
 
Same here... I think I've only played with at most 3 people from here even though I put in all the codes. At times I'll see the blue icon blink but I'm in a race. I finish the race and go back to the friends screen but I guess people just get tired of waiting.

It's a good thing N64's Wario's Stadium isn't on this because I remember a shortcut that would cut out almost half the track.

I haven't really encountered anybody doing this though except one of the races this one guy used a shortcut in delfino plaza. Haven't figured out exactly where it is though.

My personal favorite is on the sme course, right before that. I love using a mushroom to jump accross the river and onto the pier :)
 
some dude screwed me w/ a cheep cheep beach shortcut that i could't tell where he was going but it took him 1/4 lap ahead of me everytime he used it

4:47ET anyone on right now?

Does that back alley work though since there is mud in there that slows you down? I guess all the people playing Dry Bones could pull it off since he'll regain his speed in about 1 nanosecond.

Yeah, I'm going to do a little practice on time trial since you get a mushroom to see how hard it is to drift out of that alley.

There is also a shortcut in Bowser's Castle. When you get to the room with the spinning floor (not the spinning column you have to balance on), instead of going into the first exit in front of you, keep going to the right. You'll dodge some fire columns and then go into another hallway with a Thwomp. Avoid him and you'll pop out back on the main track.
 
Yeah, that back alley ones is only good for mushrroms/stars and good powersliders :)

And that Bowser shortcut was a nice little surprise when i found it :)

I loved this game untill I saw that in every race I'm in everyone starts quitting as they begin to lose. I just don't get why play online if you don't have the guts to lose a match.

Ha, I think that's what I'll have to do tomorrow... start adding friend codes. Hopefully gizmogc goes through the effort of adding all the newer codes to the OP so I don't have to exert any myself ;)

I've only had a problem with that once, the guy/lady got pissed off because they always ended up in third place. :roll:
 
Well, I'm on, not too great, played against some guy, we tied in the end. He kept whooping me in the first matches, but I got him in the others. Just add me :)
 
Does anyone know why some people have stars by their names online? The only other place I've seen this is racing against the staff ghosts.
 
Oh man I suck, first time I went online I ended up tied. Then went with 4 people, I'm 0-6 >.> I suck. Flashfox, wasn't he a CAG or is a CAG? Sounds familiar.

Anyways, for those about decals and such...just remember they are the same blocks as they were for Animal Crossing. So any designs you made in your Animal Crossing way back when, still work fine. I have a little link for my decal...gonna add [CAG] as sig :D

I haven't set up my DS for online yet, but I purchased this game the day before I left for Illinois last week.

I played my friends when I got there, and I also got my cousin to purchase the game, but check this out:

Out of 7 people in my row on the flight from Los Angeles to Chicago last Tuesday, 4 of us had DS systems with Mario Kart. We played all 32 courses against each other, and it fucking rocked.

Done and done! I'm not too good, since just began playing yesterday. I don't know any shortcuts yet and can't even get the boost at the start >.< I always got it in all the MK games before...can't get it on this one!

I should work on opening stuff too :) Even though I couldn't talk to the people I raced against I was having a blast. Wish the mic was an option for some nice smack talk.

When you guys play, do you guys get on AIM, YIM or MSN? Or voice or something. I think this would add some nice fun, at least for CAG members.

ing awsome. Isn't that breaking some sort of FAA rule though? I thought WiFi wasn't allowed on planes. Oh well, it didn't crash so I guess it's all good. I hope someone has a DS on one of my flights to Nashville in a few weeks.
 
Mariokart is BS! Everytime I play I'm like 50 feet from the finish line and I either get hit with some sort of powerup or get drafted off of and they pass me while we're crossing the finish! fuck Mariokart!!!!!!!! I'm about say fuck it and not even play anymore it pisses me off that much!
 
I keep getting smoked but at least I take it, hehe. I think I'll need to use "Rivals" to get a couple of ppl who suck just as bad ;-). Boy have I gotten rusty since the N64 days (DD just didn't do it for me on the GCN).

I wish the Wario Stadium cheat to jump the wall would have been removed or at least harder to pull off, but one player kept using that to skip part of the level - I left that race b/c I want to win/lose by racing and items and not quirky cheats :(.

You aren't supposed to use any wireless devices, even if local. I read up and my Bluetooth headphones for my iPAQ aren't supposed to be used. I guess it didn't do any harm if they landed safely. That would definitley make for a great way to spend a LONG flight if they don't figure out it is using WiFi (and it, of course, isn't causing any issues with the plane!)
