Anyone picking this up next week? I was a huge fan of the original Donkey Kong on the original GB, and it's sequelk in MvsDK on the GBA was a good time too. With the Wii coming out soon I'm not sure I want to be spending too much time and money on DS stuff at the moment, but if the reviews show favorably on the game, I might be in.

The level sharing thing seems pretty cool, but I'm guessing you can only share over WiFi with friends, not a general pool of people, eh?

If I could have found the first game during the 8.96 clearance, I would be on board with this, but as it is, I'm making too many DS buys to go in blind on something at full price.

But for those who are, $23.99 at Circuit City on 10/1, so wait a week if you can.

I was thinking of picking up either this or Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime. The $24 price tag may make me go with this. I'll wait for a few more reviews first though.

Mm, thanks for the heads up. Oct. 1 is a big work day for me, so I might pick it up afterwards to try it out.

I'm definitely looking forward to this one! The GBA original was amazingly fun and put me on a nostalgia trip with its old-school style.

Buy it Tuesday at Best Buy and then price match it the following week with the ad and get the extra 10%.

Even better. I think I might have to try to find time to get to a demo station. I want to try this and EBA. I do hope the Wii will enable DS demo downloads from the get go. :)

Looks great, but really, I'm planning on getting stuff like Contact, Dragon Quest, and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon before this. I still want it though, but I have a huge backlog and a short budget.

so circuit city will have Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 for $23.99 on 10/1

would i be able to get a price match at best buy and use my Gamers gift card coupon to get 5 dollars off to make the game 18.99?

the answer is no, but maybe you will get lucky and someone will manually adjust the price.

thanks

but is it because they wont do the price match?

or the gamer gift card and the price match?

Getting this tommorrow with all the (free) credit I amassed at EB. Only have one game to finish tonight in my DS backlog, so I'll be able to start this ASAP Tuesday.

The latter. It can happen, but usually is denied.

It requires a manager's override, which is why, just to be more specific. Most managers will tell you it can't be combined, some of them don't care and will just punch in their numbers. It's not worth the hassle over $5.
Did anyone ever play the first game in the series, Donkey Kong for the original GB? I just started it again after several years of having not played it, and it is simply fantastic. Cheap, too, if you can find it. I'd put it as a "must-have" with Tetris for GB(C) software.

I played that game into the ground back in the day. I actually was not nearly as fond of the GBA psuedo-sequel. Something about the art style bothered me. And trying to get perfect on every level gave me the shakes. But I'm all over this latest incarnation, especially at the nice price of $23.99.

I think Mario vs Donkey Kong 2 is alot like the GBA one, so I'm not sure how well you're going to like it given that you didn't like the first GBA one.

I think you're directly controlling the mini Marios this time around rather then Mario and occasionally leading mini Marios. I could be wrong though.

Beats me, I just saw a few screenshots and going by like... one old preview. I haven't read up on this game for a long long time, I just preordered it because I had some extra credit and nothing to play on my DS besides Harvest Moon.

It just seems to have more in common with the GBA one than the GB one though, regardless.

Yeah, you're right, but I like the art style more and the Lemmings-style gameplay in combination with the stylus looks really fun.

My interest in this game just went from mild to pretty high actually after reading etoychests' review. It sounds like it has a lot more in common with Lemmings than the first MvsDK, since you're controlling multiple characters at once with the stylus (not unlike the mouse in Lemmings).

I liked the first game pretty well, but I beat it (as well as 10 out of 12 bonus levels) and then felt like I'd had enough and never picked it up again. This sounds like something completely different and a nice DS diversion. Plus you really can't beat the $24 price during the CC sale.

I just downloaded and beat the demo. This game has a ton of potential. I think I'm going to be picking this up tomorrow from CC and then pricematching thier own price +10% when the sale comes around next week. It's cheaper than even waiting! :)

would it be 10% of 29.99 or 23.99?

ive never done this before

I got my copy today at Fred Meyer with the 20% off coupon they had in the paper on Sunday. I went ahead and play through the first level which was fun, I don't have the GBA version so I really can't make any comparison.

Its ok. Ive gotten a fw levels into it and im midly amused. I didn't care too much for the first one...but this one seems to have changed alot since then.

I think it's 10% of the difference. So a $6 difference being an extra 60 cents off. Nothing huge, but something.

Added more reviews to the OP. Looks like it's getting some nice cricial acclaim :)

EDIT: Do Gamestop URLs work better than EB?
I've played though the entire thing multiple times. One of the only (if not the only) games I can say that for.

EDIT: Okay, there's at least one more game in that category: Link's Awakening.

Something I found interesting in your post. The most intriguing games for you have been titles on the original, monochrome Gameboy.

Somewhere in there, there's an anecdotal piece to enter into the on-going graphics/HD talk.

IGN only gave the game a 7/10 (which is like a 0 on their scale, right? ;) ), but I think I'll still try to pick this up tomorrow. I think my wife might even like it. We'll see. :)

Like the others said, it is YMMV. I've gotten it to work a few times, and at other times, not. The pricematch is considered a coupon/discount already.

Like Lemmings? I've been dying for a lemmings on the DS, I was mildly interested, now I must check it out.
I can't decide between this or Lemmings PSP. Who can help me decide? Pros and cons for each, if possible.
Touch Screen FTW!!!!1

I don't really know, haven't played Lemmings on the PSP. :)

I picked it up myself today, but I'm going to finsih DK and MM:ZX before I start it. Close on both.

We should probably get a friend code list up since I think level trading is (lamely) limited to friends only.

Buy it at cc and have them match the bb ggc. I swore it was $23.99 this week at cc, and picked it up last night, of course it was 29.99.
so im going to be going back next week and getting it adjusted.

Not sure how much I'm feeling this game... I just finished the first two world's and read IGN's review and they seem to sum up my feelings on this game pretty well.

There just dosen't seem to be a lot of meat to this game... I'm wondering if there's any point in going for gold stars other than bragging rights?

I don't know, I loved the first Mario vs DK on the GBA, I'm just not feeling this one for some reason.

I just played the demo and would have to say that I was highly dissapointed. In theory something like Lemmings should work so well on the DS touch screen, but these mini-marios are just a pain in the ass to control. I think at the very least they should have assigned a jump button to the most recent mini you've clicked on or something a bit better than just scrolling the stylus which direction you want them to go.

This is my problem too. When they bump into each other and all start going in any which way it is a HUGE pain in the ass. And hope you don't completely stop one or you will completely lose that large 8000 points "nonmoving" bonus at the end.

The puzzles aren't really hard, and the fact the top screen is just used as a worthless scoreboard and not a zoomed out map is a huge mistake, imo.

The game just isn't "clicking" with me for some reason... I don't know why, I'm just not really feeling too strongly about it. I'm gonna try and get through the 3rd stage but the game just seems to be a huge step down from the previous games in the series.

The game just feels really hands off to me, for some reason, basacially just tapping the stylus every so often and watching the minis do their own thing.

Seconded, DK for the GB was a great game.

Hmm, I haven't opened my copy yet, and after hearing some luke warm things about the game, I'm kinda considering taking it back.

I just finished (like 5 minutes ago) Donkey Kong on the GB. That game is awesome, but I kinda feel like it scratched that itch. Every review I read has sad MvsDK > MvsDK2. That being said, I thought the original DK on Game Boy was far superior to the MvsDK on GBA. So, seems like the second one is just going down 2 steps from the original on GB.

Maybe I'll return it and pick up Clubhouse Games, a game with some real multiplayer Wifi action. Those who have / are playing it, thoughts?

Did you play the demo for Mario vs DK 2? That right there will let you know whether you want to keep it or take it back. I mean, Donkey Kong and MvsDK were like action puzzles, you actually controlled Mario. This one, you're just flicking the stylus to send mini's in one direction or the other.

The controls just feel really... I don't know, lame. They don't work real well, imo. It's not a bad game, per se, it just dosen't even come close to living up to the standards thrown down by the other games in the series. Going in this lemmings like direction was a bad idea (again, imo).

I'm not getting the urge to pick it up and keep playing it... in fact, I started a new game entirely, so I guess that sums up my feelings on it.
