Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner...really

I like him as an actor personally. Not sure what I think of him in that role--but I didn't think Norton was great in the role either. Great actor, bad fit IMO. We'll see how Ruffalo does.

He's a pretty decent actor and should excel in the role. Maybe not as much as Norton, but Ruffalo certainly looks the part of Bruce Banner more than Norton did.

Yeah he's a decent supporting actor in an already overflowing cast. There's something to be said for delivering your lines and letting the A-listers run the show. While I would love seeing Norton in the role again, this isn't going to really matter.

The guy I'm more concerned about is Samuel Jackson. He has mixed success in epic popcorn movies (see: Star Wars)

FTFY

Yeah, he's a proven commodity in TV. But this ain't TV. That Serenity movie was nice, but it still felt like a sci-fi channel original.

I honestly don't care who they get to play Hulk, I'm betting he'll be Hulked out most of the movie anyway.

And whats your beef with ScarJo, op? I think she was great.

Serenity was great if you're a fan of Firefly. The problem with the movie was that there was a lot of story and loose ends left that had to be cut down into 2 hours. He still did a great job with it, too.

Yep, I didn't like it much when I got drug to it in the theater with friends, having never seen an episode of Firefly.

But I just finished watching Firefly on Netflix streaming, and then watched Serenity again and really enjoyed it this time. It's no masterpiece, and like must cult hits is overhyped by its fanbase. But it's an enjoyable series and movie nonetheless.

Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye.

Sold. I love Hawkeye and think this guy will do him justice. He has been rumored to play Hawkeye for a while now and finally we get some confirmation.

As for Hulk...

I don't think Hulk is that big a deal as we will see a CGI version a majority of the time with little appearance by Mr. Banner anyway.

Good point. I can't imagine an Avengers movie will have much screen time for the alter egos anyway. The individual movies are for developing the individual characters, I expect this one will be mostly action.

I'm always excited to see Joss Whedon's name attached to new projects. Firefly was fucking amazing. I hope this is good. And Ruffalo is a quality actor, but not sure how he'll do as Banner.

I'm years and years behind when it comes to comics, so feel free to mock if this is way off base, but isn't Wolverine in the Avengers? Any word if Hugh Jackman will be in this?

Wolverine is part of the Avengers (like a million of them), but I doubt he will be in the movie. A cameo at most.

In the purist hearts, you would be way off base. Wolverine was a recent addition with the "New Avengers" titles over the past 5 years. They seem to be taking this movie based off characters who are more closely tied to the comics history. From what I've read, Whedon is approaching it like the early days of the Avengers (and really, the Ultimates too). A group of people who really shouldn't even exist, the probability of being in the room with one of them is way out there and a group - astronomical. These are powerful people with very different viewpoints of the world, and there will be conflict before any kind of teamwork in the face of a greater evil.

Yeah. It was a nice little movie and a great extension of the TV show, which is fine.

However this movie has to be bigger then life. It's concerning to think the dialog could get bogged down in deadpan soliloquies, canned insult trading, and ironic quips. I just hope he realizes that this is the Avengers movie and it would be refreshing if the dialog didn't sound like it was swapped in from an episode of the West Wing.

Yeah, and IIRC in the first Avengers comics they actually fought the Hulk more then they worked with him. The Hulk was alot more badass back then. I wonder if they'll have ant-man/giant-man and wasp girl. :D

Wolverine cannot make an appearance.

Fox owns rights to wolverine/spiderman/ fantastic four at the moment.

So they are all trapped within fox's hero universe. Hence why we are getting a spider man reboot so soon. If they didn't the rights would go back to marvel.

The best news from SDCC was that Marvel just got the rights back to the Punisher and are going to do something with him soon. /cheer!

I thought Sony owned the rights to Spiderman.

Mark Ruffalo will be fine. Bruce Banner is nothing but a dark-haired dude about nothing. However, I smell A League of Extraordinary Gentleman...marvel style.
