Marten's CONTEST CLOSED! WINNERS ANNOUNCED!

THE MAN IN BLACK FLED ACROSS THE... Uh... Folding proteins and the... Er... Cheap ass gamers followed. Ah well.

I'll try to get my name in the hat at least, AMD 64 3700+ isn't the mightiest folding machine in the land.

Are you somehow just checking the results of the week, or are the people who've been on the CAG team for a while going to have hundreds of entries? :???:

currently folding on my laptop and pstriple..

laptop will finish monday and my 2nd WU will finish in an hour on my triple

demonslayer: if you read the rules, you'll see that he took screens of the leaderboard from the time of the start, and he will at the time of the finish calculating the points himself.

HUNDREDS OF ENTRIEEEEESsss! :) Just kidding...

Nah. Look at this:

The tally: I'll be taking screenshots off of http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...php?s=&t=56566 at 6pm PST today, and on Thursday, 9/27. Points will be calculated by myself.
So on the ending date, he has screens and infomation to help figure out just how much the numbers will have changed compaired to the starting date.

At 1.66GHz I'm not sure how much it's helping but I left my computer running this weekend whlie I've been away and working!! I may have to turn it down tonight cause of the extreme heat it's going through... Computers go into labor too. :D

As long as it's helping at all! OoO and getting at least a couple (1 or 2?) entries in that sweet contest!!

A little tip for everyone.
If you go here.
And type in your project number it will give you some info on the project you're working on (how many points it is worth and how long it will take (per GHz) to complete on various CPUs).

Alternatively you can go here for a list of all active projects.

At the rate I'm going, I'll finish my first work unit by Weds, and not even break 500. At least I'll be on the boards though. (Hopefully)

As long as you get a point it is still an entry.

ah, didnt see this one yet - better late than never

And how do points relate to frames, work units, etc. Either Im dumb and didnt see it explained or im just dumb.

Finally got some points on the board here too, better late than never. I had run the config on my clients to change the team number but didn't realize I also had to recycle the service to get it to pick up the change. So I had several WUs that finished but still credited to my previous team.

Basically the people running FAH at Stanford benchmarks every WU released against a base machine. They take the days it took to complete that WU * 110 (more if the project has bonus points) to get the points for that WU. Frames are just a progress indicator.

Read all about points at Stanford's Points FAQ.

If you want to find out what the point value is for a specific WU, check out the links in this post.

Man, this is lame. My laptop was chugging along at a nice little pace to finish a 5000 frame WU over the weekend. Shut the laptop down on Monday morning to bring it to school, and now folding@home runs at a snails pace. Got through 3550/5000 frames over the weekend, and I'm only up to 3700/5000 today. It was taking 1 min 7 secs for a frame, now it's around 22 min. :bomb: (and suddenly slowly dropping... WTF? AND NOW IT SLOWED DOWN AGAIN!!! ARGH!)

But I got two WU's done on an office computer, and I'm sure it'll finish a third before this contest ends, so I'm content with the two entires I should get.

Ugh, 80% complete with my first protein, try to set up two copies running on dual-core and I lose my work. Started a new protein from scratch TT

Yay, finished my first WU after 5 days and I'm finally on the score page. Really reminds me how outdated my CPU is though.
Takes a while for them to update your points I noticed.
Yeah, the stats on the Extreme Overclocking page do seem to be slow to update. The stanford pages update faster though:

http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=56566

My score is several thousand points higher there than on the Overclocking page. I hope Marten is using those stats instead.

Edit. The overclocking site just updated and now matches the folding site. In reading the FAQ's it updates about once every 3 hours while Stanford's site seems to update about every 15 minutes, so there is a lag between the two.

Are you running the -forceasm flag? If you shut the app down improperly it disables assembly optimizations. You need to add the -forceasm flag to reenable the boost!

I hope people are setting up their clients properly, and using the console version on multi-core/processor machines. A simple google brings this useful article up: http://icrontic.com/articles/foldinghome_on_multithreaded_windows_pcs

GUI version doesn't work on my computer for some reason, so I have no idea what all these frame things people are talking about are. :D
I do know, however, your name and points will only show up after submitting a finished work unit, and the amount of points rewarded depends on what you fold and how fast you fold it (although the second condition is over a LONG span of time, tough to get less points for it).

This is a bit preemptive, but I'm saying this now....

I hate you all.

Do you all realize how many slips of paper I'm going to have to cut up to put into the hat?

Eeeeeeeesh.

My hands are already feeling the pain.....thanks, guys ;)

Well, give the fap fap fap a rest for the next two nights and you should be ok ;)

Personal gain is a marvelous motivator.
Another small update:

A shave over the halfway mark, and you guys have thrown up 200,000 points in the last

I think I have the best solution.

The Hat

This seems the most convenient, and it should remove the problems preventing an actual physical drawing from being 100% random.

Also, it shakes, flashes, and makes noises! Yay! ;)
Jeeze, this contest certainly favors PS3 owners. :(

Oh well, I still have a chance. **Fingers Crossed**
Not at all.

Example: Mars10 is currently outproducing me. (We'll skip the fact his 11 computers!!!!!!!! are barely matching the three PSTriples.)

I remember hearing the story about Cheapy and Childs Play last year. Some guy donated a thousand dollars, and didn't win a damn thing out of the prize pool.

Odds are funny like that. ;)

Not necessarily. I don't have a PS3 and I'm putting as many points up as anyone as far as I can tell. The newer intel dual core processors are just as good or better than a PS3 for F@H in my opinion.

Please explain in ways that I can understand and implement, good sir.

Was that the "disable highly optimized assembly code" option under the advanced configuration menu? Because I'm down to 2min44secs per frame after choosing that. :D It's not the 1min7secs I was getting before, but I can live with this for now.

Ah, I might actually finish this 5000 frame project by the end of the contest!

Ehh, you wanna make sure you keep that on default [OFF]. It disables SSE; layman's: you'll run faster with SSE on.
