So far at gamerankings.com it is scoring an average of 63% across all systems. Some of the reviews have been pretty harsh. I guess expectations were really high for this license. I'm not an EA basher but how did they mess this one up? A Marvel Fighting is usually money in the bank, Capcom has done such a good with that license during the 90's, I guess my I too had unrealistic expectations that EA would somehow capture what I loved so much about those Capcom games. I guess the first thing EA did wrong was to have half of the roster be a bunch of characters that they invented. If you are going to make a Marvel Fighting game, include as many "known" comic book characters as possible. I do hope that EA learns from this and crafts a better title with this Marvel lincense in the next go around. Maybe they can use some of those deep pockets and purchase the DC comics license so we they can make a DC vs Marvel crossover fighting game. Now that's something to get excited about.

The game is quite dull in my opinion. You hit the nail right on the head with the idea of not wanting to play characters you've never heard of. Nobody gives a shit about "Johnny Ohm" or "The Wink" or any of the other EA characters. Also there are some crazy balance issues where exploding items do way more damage than special moves or up-close combos. So the game just devolves into a race to see who can chuck the most exploding barrels at the other guy first. Not too fun...

Doesn't this play more like Def Jam (or other wrestling titles) rather than Street Fighter (or other fighting games)? If so, that's reason alone to not get it.

More like Def Jam, just worse.
Is this game a 1 on 1 fighter like Street Fighter/King of Fighters or a brawler like like Final Fight/Streets of Rage?
Both. The game has a mandatory story mode that you have to play thru, to unlock characters and whatnot, that plays like Final Fight. It also has the main versus mode that plays more like a one on one fighter, but it's not very exciting.

I still hold faith in the PSP version... a different team is developing it, so the possibility is there that it may be a completely different (and better) version.

Not to mention PSP gets Dr. Doom and Captain America :D

gametrailers had a pretty good video review of it, check it out if you want. what i found funny was they tried to do some wanna be sin city color spotting with live action videos to tell the story. you see some of it in the gt review, man did it look cheesy. it remind me of how most old school PC games used live action and there's probably a good reason for that, which is that they take the gamers out of the game, cg rendered scences fit with the original design of the game, and there's the issue of actors and sets.

that was kind of a long sentence, or well.

Actually, its more like powerstone but unlike powerstone which is one of the best fighting games ever RotI sucks.

Why did EA choose to make have of the roster be new characters ? Did they strike a deal with Marvel that they would pay less if they used less "real" characters ? EA should know people have very high standards when it comes to fighting games now. It's not like back in the SNES days where any old fighter sold.

I played the demo, it sucks ass, the "original" EA charicters just suck, "johnny ohm" uses lines like, get this "HEEEERES JOHNNY!", the fighting is completely unbalanced and glitchy as hell, god what a joke of a game.

edit: OK why are 2d fighting games so sparce when this is the video game industrys offerings of 3d fighting to us? Is this piece of glitched poop NOT a throw back from marvel vs capcom, an extremely fun, fast paced, beautifully animated fighting engine? Yet another EA waste of a license in order to turn a profit, if you buy this game you're a damned idiot!!!!!!!!!

I've seen the gameplay and played the demo combos are too limited there are plenty of other fighters out there!

oh, I'll buy it... when it hits the 5 dollar mark. ;)

5 dollars, yeah that sounds about right for this, I love the marvel universe I just am sick of seeing it raped by not only hollywood, but now the video game industry as well, argh whats EA going to do next, marvel vs madden?

Thankfully, there are a bunch of quality comics based games this season, with X-Men Legends 2, Ultimate Spiderman, and the New Hulk game. Hopefully, people will buy those quality titles and pass on Nemesis. Then EA can realize the mistake they made and get a new development team to revamp their Marvel license.

the game did not suck because of the characters, it suck because of the game play was weak.
next time. I hope the use the game play from MK: Shaolin Monks

I don't know about that. After reading all of the EA character bios on the official site, I'd have to say that the characters (the EA ones) pretty much suck too. ;)

I'm actually really surpirsed that this game is getting so much negative feedback. Personally, being a fan of the amazing 2D Capcom fighters, when I heard that EA aquired the license I immediately dubbed the game bogus and dropped it from my radar. When the demo came in however, I was surprised to see that they were basing this game off of the (altered) Power Stone engine and after learning the basic but responsive controls, I was owning with Spider-Man again and actually enjoying the game. Later, I took Johnny Ohm for a spin and found that his control scheme was really dumbed down (most likely to make him easily accessible to people that otherwise wouldn't touch the Imperfects) but still relatively fun.

I think you guys are forgetting that developers purposely leave the first games of planned franchises rather simple so that a sequel can be developed within a year with "all new features". Although this game is not "Soul Caliber" and by far still not as good as "Power Stone", I think its a fun game to simply pick up, run through, and have a beatfest with a few friends.

The one complaint I have is in the character choices. How come the Imperfects killed off the Hulk, Punisher, and Captain America (who mysterious makes a PSP comeback) but Electra managed to survive? .......wtf.......

Anyway, final words, give the game a rental if you like Marvel, easy fighting games, or even if you just want to be open minded enough to judge a game based your own opinion instead of the seemingly popular "EA sucks" attitude which I keep running into when asking for a good reason to dislike the game.
