Massive List of Free Content on Xbox Live Marketplace!

Great stuff OP

I heard on Major Nelson's podcast (~28m in) that in the new dashboard update there will be a "Free Stuff" tab on Marketplace for all such items - but I am not sure what "free stuff" will be included in that list. He said it is in the "spotlight" section on Marketplace, but I haven't seen the update yet so I don't know what that means.


This is a great reference in any event.

If they swept a 20gig onto a 120gig, Hexic, along with everything else, will be gone. There is no way to download it from the marketplace without a code, which is only available from MS customer service. Whether they will give you one or not, I have no idea, but that's the only place you can get one. Unless, of course, someone got a code from them and didn't use it, but that seems unlikely.

You need to add I am Legend and Music Artist-Dream Theather theme and pics. There are no free movies. There are some free shows, but most are for a limited time only. Music videos are free though.

Yeah the new "Free stuff" tab is there now, although with a pitiful selection of the free content that is actually buried deep within the bowels of the Live marketplace. I think there are about 4 different things under the free stuff tab (like the doritos, mountain dew, etc).

Thanks OP for the free stuff, though a lot of it i don't know why someone would use... why do i want multiple colored doritos as my gamerpic...??

Hey, I'm just listing it, doesn't mean I like it :).
 
Might be the wrong place to ask this , but what is the DC for Ridge Racer 6 actually? Are they cars , do they just let unlock the cars in the game? I'm confused.
 
Awesome thanks OP. Would be great if you added some of the free shows they offer. I remembered downloading a Looney Tunes episode for free (episode "What's Opera Doc?) I don't know if it's still available it may have a limited time free download. Anyways just wanted to give you a heads up.

Yup, got mine for free a few days ago. It should still be free im pretty sure they are not charging for it.
 
I was up pretty late a few days ago checking the music video's out and I got Los Angeles is Burning by Bad Religion for free. Even if you'r not into rock music I highly suggest you dl this great music video from a kickass band, what do you have to lose it's free afterall.;)
 
I had to format my hdd, so I also need to get Hexic back!

Does anyone know if there is a way to get the Gears of War Emergence Day theme/pics that are no longer available? I lost those with the data wipe too... =(

Aside from the GoW limited theme/pics, are there any other items that are no longer available (besides music/tv/movies)?

At any rate, here's some new(er) stuff, I think:

+ A second set of Air Force gamerpics and a new theme
+ Theme & gamerpics from the movie One Missed Call

Random video stuff:

+ Unlock Xbox videos from Doritos (#s 14-18?)
+ Welcome to Xbox 360 ad under Independent Videos (158MB)
+ Seven clips from the new(ish) Battlestar Galactica (Razor extended cut?)
+ Two trailers for the new Rambo movie
+ A trailer for the Appleseed movie that's coming to Marketplace in '08

The videos are easier to find under Shorts by Release Date, though some of the newest clips are sitting at the back of the queue (possibly because of some bad file dating). Oh, and one of the newer music videos is free as well, a "Roc Boys" one by Jay-Z. That's what I can remember from the top o' my head (and manually searching Marketplace for what seems new).

True , but it is helpful to know when new videos / music videos are available , especially since they're usually never mentioned in the main Xbox Marketplace Downloads for the Month thread unless its a video for a high profile game or something microsoft is heavily promoting.

On the note , I can't seem to find the appleseed trailer that was just mentioned. I found all the other mentioned videos except for that one.

Actually, they might've changed their free policy recently as the majority of actual new music videos offered (as opposed to behind-the-scenes stuff and interviews) seems to carry a price tag nowadays. That Jay-Z one I mentioned was the only new one from Sony Music(?) to list as free for me; at least the next four by release date are priced at 160 MS points apiece, including videos from Tenacious D, Velvet Revolver, Say Anything, and Shakira. I miss the halcyon days of free videos from featured artists on Xbox Live (such as the first one, Natasha Bedingfield). I remember seeing others from Michael Jackson ("Thriller") and Outkast ("Hey Ya") also costing some Microsoft bucks now.

You can probably find it most quickly under the Video Store -> Movies -> Featured Trailers section. The Appleseed trailer is currently sixth from the top when sorted by release date and fifth from the top when sorted by title (so when alphabetically arranged).

Personally, I like watching and downloading cool new movie trailers (and TV clips) when they're free and available in HD on my 360. Just gotta make enough space on my hard drive so they'll have some place to go. :)
