MASSIVE / Possible Circuit City Clearance - $7.96 titles (may be YMMV)

I went to Circuit City today and noticed that the bargain bin was overflowing and that there were $19.99 games all over the floor and on rolling carts.

Being overly curious, I played dumb with one of the employees and asked if they were having a clearance sale (like the $9.99 and $5 sales of the past) -- and he said yes.

Apparently they're making room for the next generation and clearancing titles at $7.96 -- pretty good titles, too, from what I got to see. Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Halo, 007: Everything or Nothing. I only go to glance at some of the Xbox titles, though.

He said the sale is going to start "within the next couple of days".

Can anyone verify?

Edit: Also, check this video game service desk for a "Holiday Buyers Guide". It's filled with $5 off coupons.

Sounds like a sale to clear off shelf space in prep for the 360 launch.

Could be why my BB of preference did a 50% off game clearance with all manner of things (which I posted in the Midwest thread over the weekend).

Would make sense if they're clearing out some of the 2003-2004 vinatge stuff like JB: EON, R6: BA and the like.

Hmmm.....I can't think of anything I would need, but there might be something of interest with this if true. Thanks for the heads up Brak! Hopefully someone can give us some more information soon.

There's only one CC here in Hawaii and their inventory tends to suck ass, but since tomorrow is a holiday and I'll be in the area, I'll check it out.

7.96 is a magically low price. I'd be curious as to what shows up as being available for this... I'll be checking back to see if anyone has more details. Thanks, OP.
Hey, nice.

As long as there's a list. ;)

I searched the boards for Circuit City and didn't get shit, too. Oh, well.

Brak,

Were these games already priced at $7.96, or did the employee tell you that's what they would be marked at in a few days?

I'll check on this as well when I work tomorrow.
We are losing half of our xbox game space for the 360, and we just got our demo unit in....so its possible, hopefully!

Well, since the titles you mention in the OP weren't in last month's clearance, hopefully this means they are adding titles to the $8 clearance bin.

I wish we had a fairly complete list of titles (and of course, confirmation of the sale itself). If so, I'd buy the games today and price match after the clearance starts.

I was in CC thisafternoon to pick out games and there were two alrge bins.

The first Bin had all the old clearance games from the list before. The only thing that stood out was Romance oif the Three Kingdoms 7. Everything else were older titles that wouldn't draw much interest from anyone. But they were listed at $20.

In the other bin was all PS2 greatest hits. All had $20 price tags on them.

I didn't actualy check any prices to see if they were on clearance. But they had emptied a whole span of shelf racks to get ready for xbox titles.

Alright, I think I'm going to head down to my CC in a bit... I checked the other thread and found the following I'd be willing to part with cash for:

PS2
onimusha 3: demon siege
silent hill 3
DOA2 Hardcore

GCN
Mega Man Anniversary
Baten Kaitos
Resident evil 0
THUG 2

Thanks again!

Edit: Removed Onimusha Blade Warriors ... (thought this was Onimusha Tactics for some reason.)
Brak,

I saw one game marked as $7.96 -- American Chopper.

Everything else was priced as $19.99 and so on. I even had a couple of titles price checked before I actually asked about the sale, as I speculated that something was going on (those two titles being Rainbow Six 3: Bloack Arrow and Wolfenstein; which rang up was $19.99).

So, yeah; he said that they'd start getting marked down within the next couple of days.
Ha, well, it was a month ago. The strange thing is that your store is saying its just starting. Maybe it's a rolling clearance? Otherwise I don't know. They had nothing set out at mine last time, and nothing in stock that I wanted to bother pricechecking, so I might swing by this weekend and see if anything is out.
Yeah. It sounds like "rolling markdowns", gradually over a couple of days.

my store has like 20 copies of Baten Kaitos, I guess 10 wasnt low enough to move it

My CC has 2 bins full of crap from the last sale. Tiger Woods 2004, NHL 2005, and NCAA March Madness 2004 galore, lol.

Here are what the coupons look like in the guide I got today:

This may be new since the titles Brak listed weren't on the list from last month's sale. I don't work until Saturday so hopefully Demo can provide confirmation.

BTW, CC's games sales are always company-wide so it shouldn't be YMMV.

Its a good thing I noticed this thread as I just got a updated list of clearance titles that is a continuation from last month. Most titles dropped about $1-2 dollars but nothing new added. I was going to start a new thread for these scans. Anyone still want me to post the lists so you can verify?

As far as titles like Halo and such for $7.96 I have not heard of anything like that at all. I'll see what is up tommorow tho, but I have major doubts on such a major clearance on big A rate titles so quickly.

that's surprising, bk was one of the hot items of that sale. i know the ones in my store went quick.

If you could, that would be great. :)

OP - thanks for the heads up!

yea I remember being one of if not the title most people were excited about

This thread kind of depresses me, because it reminds me that nothing will ever top the CC clearance sale from July '04. :(

Looked all over, only game from the list I posted earlier that I could find was Onimusha 3.
Was still in the section with regularly priced PS2 games, listed as $49.99. Took a copy without a visible price up to a clerk and asked for a price check.

$6.96. "Yeah, I'll take it." ;)

Good luck with Mega Man Anniversay, Baten Kaitos, and RE:0... I think they got raided pretty thoroughly in the last sale. I've been to several CCs in several states since then and haven't seen a single copy of any of those three titles.

went in today and grabbed:

Monster Rancher 3
ESPN NHL 2k5
Hidden Invasion
Robotech (the newer one)

All were $6.96 - probably overpaid for most of em...

Is Monster Rancher 3 any good? It looked interesting...

That's totally awesome! The second page there has a coupon for Candy Land / Chutes & Ladders / Memory for the GBA. I was Lead Programmer / Associate Producer on that game, as well as on Life / Yahtzee / Payday (no coupon for it, though).

Yeah I hadn't heard of the game until I saw this ad in the same book.
(I have no idea how you're supposed to play Operation on a GBA).

IMO the $2 overstock sale was better. Than again I was in Iraq the summer of 04

they must not pay you enough if you hang out on the cheap ass gamer forums with all the 10-15 year olds that make up the majority here

Boy, that was necessary.

Stop being a dick.

What? I think the entire community is going to hand you a "stfu" for that comment. I doubt that CAG's majority is composed of 10-15 year olds. Look at our faithful leader - in his mid 20s. Look at the game population - it's getting older. Not to mention he was excited that his game got some free advertising, and rightly so! I'd advise you keep your smartass comments to yourself.

Yeah right, because these forums are just a ball of happiness and sunshine!

A little off topic, but I went to my local store in Queens NY, and did not see any hint of another sale coming. They still had tons of games left over from the last 9.99 sale (mostly garbage). On my way out, I asked at the customer service desk, what were their plans for the xbox360. She answered that it was first come first serve, and that they were holding all their units for an early opening on black friday...Hmm, count me out.
