May Laptop Just Died...Need Advice

I was buffering about 6 videos on youtube when the screen went blank and the laptop shut off. Now it responds to nothing, the powerbox is lit and has volts coming out of it, but the laptop will not respond to the power button. Now Sony is making me pay for the damages because of some BS rule, I either have to pay their premium price or I have to fix it. Anyone have any ideas?

Try another power supply if you know somebody with one. It could be that. If the power supply was no longer working properly the laptop wouldn't have been getting power during all that activity and so eventually it would run out of power. If the power is completely gone (or if it went to sleep due to low batter power) it wouldn't power up or respond to pressing the power button. So it seems a possibility.

It's also possible that the power supply is fine but the battery isn't. So if you had someone elses battery to try, that would be worth testing too.

Take out the battery, disconnect the power supply, and hold down the power button for 10 seconds. Then put it all back together and see what happens.
