I will update the thread when the full numbers are out.

On another note, Both Mario Party 8 and Forza released on the 29th, so they didnt have as much time as all of the other games.
Boo. I was going to make a thread, but I was waiting for the other numbers.

Let the spin commence!
Haha! The PS3 beat the GBA this month (maybe.) Tomorrow- the world.

anyway, i'm surprised it did beat the GBA  I was predicting lower sales straight to fall.
Boo. I was going to make a thread, but I was waiting for the other numbers.

Let the spin commence!
Yeah I was thinking about doing that but the GAF NPD insider is saying that full numbers wont be out for a while.
Most numbers are up now. Really good month for the PSP.

By the way, this is why we shouldnt be posting VGChatz weekly charts. They "reported" Forza above MP8 for the last week of May. NPD is reporting MP8 WAY above Forza.
Mario Party 8 sold 1/3 of a million copies in 3 days? That's ridiculous.
And sad. All this shows developers is make more mini-game based half ass titles.

Maybe Wal-Mart sold a ton of Forza that is not included in the NPD.

Oh sweet jesus look at those Mario Party 8 sales. The Wii fans are starved for new titles, especially Nintendo ones, and look at the result. Well atleast MK sold what, 38k copies? Not bad for a game $30 over the XBox and PS2 versions with no online play.

Lets throw in Media Create for 6/4-6/10 for good measure:

Just think of party games on Wii as shooters on a certain box :)

VGChartz are a bunch of jokers.

It's really shitty to see that awful PS2 version of Spider Man sold so well. Nintendo's gotta be happy with Wii Play showing some longevity. Also, Tiberium Wars did quite well. I'd like to play that sometime.

I suppose Shadowrun is kickin it with Senko no Ronde and Atelier Iris 3 somewhere in the 50s.

I totally forgot about that game.

It must have tanked hard.

I'm really curious to see if it even broke 100k. They should have just stuck to the action RPG formula.
Mario Party 8 sold 1/3 of a million copies in 3 days? That's ridiculous.
the real ridiculous thing is that you are going to pay $40 for a used copy a few years later. I really hope a Mario Party game will get a reprint.

I think it will be possible to get a deal on it eventually. There were numerous ways to get 4 - 6 under $20 each new ($7.00 for MP4 w/ Wavebird at K-Mart, $10 for MP5 at KB, $12 for MP5 and 6 at Sears, $17 for MP6 at CC). That might not happen with MP7 though as I haven't seen it clearanced anywhere

Yea but clearance can be a hit or miss. In Europe Mario Party 5 was a player's choice title. MP7 was clearance for $2 at BB but few people could find it. A CAGer was nice enough to pick up one for me.

You're still whining about that? Wow, get over it. I got the idea that nobody wanted to talk about anything that wasn't as "official" as the NPD when you and jer called for my banning for trying something new.

We'll never know because the NPD has a stick up their ass. If they're doing all this "research," why not tell us how more than 10 games sold?

I wonder if there was another reason, besides the pricedrop, for the nice sales of the PSP.

It was obvious that you didn't know how VGChartz got their numbers. It's not like they post under every chart that they are falsified. I'm not blaming you for anything. I had to wait for NPD to come out to prove that VGChartz was making up their numbers. They went back and changed some of their numbers from the other months and May was good because both VGChartz and NPD would be tracking the same number of days for MP8 and Forza.

NPD doesn't release more than the top 10 because no one pays for them. Most sites don't think it is worth it to get low selling game numbers. If I go through the huge GAF NPD topic, I can probably get Shadowrun numbers if you'd like.

where and how much? don't be a tease :)
where and how much? don't be a tease :)
:360: Eternal Sonata: 30k (which probably doesn't count the software bundled in the 360 Core)
:ps3: NGS: 20k
:ps3: CoD3: 8k

360 has been trending only 6k below the PS3 for the last month, so even a small percentage of those sales moving hardware may be the end of 360 jokes in Japan. For a week, at least.

Jer's the one that called for my head, but I just found it strange that people were outraged when something other than the NPD is used to strike up discussions like they're a godly tracking group. You're surprised that they were off for two games considering they don't have nearly the same access to the same info that the NPD does? They were pretty close on most of them, which isn't too bad considering the circumstances. They'll adjust their numbers when they find fault in their own numbers. It's not perfect, like with most anything else. I don't see the outrage if you realize what you're dealing with.

I couldn't care less about Shadowrun. I'd just like to know what games bombed and what did well. I imagine that God of War II possibly went over a million in sales this past month, but we won't know until Sony wants to talk about it. I like more access to more information, but the NPD is the wrong place to go for that. I don't see the outrage for wanting that unless you have a hard-on for these limited once-a-month numbers.

NPD is used because they provide reliable numbers every month. People don't like VGChartz because it provides wrong numbers every month. They were off by more than you think and I don't see why having limited resources should affect whether their numbers are reliable or not. The numbers they provide are almost always off by a fair amount and that's what matters. There is no point and posting wrong numbers.
cool. where did you find this?
NeoGAF is the place to be, they get them from some source - MediaCreate sales thread, if you want to look - can't browse over there at the moment. I'll link later if necessary.

If the past MP games have been any indication, then there probably won't be any deals. I've always had to snag MP games in B2G1 deals of some kind. But it might be different with MP8. Seeing as how the Wii is a huge hit, maybe this'll sell more and that'll actually mean Nintendo will need to put out tons of copies.

Otherwise, I'm picking up a copy during TRU's B2G1F sale.
is this the 3rd month for the ps3 in the usa selling around 80k?
Yeah. I believe they still have another 1.2 million produced, sitting on store shelves/warehouses left to sell. Maybe sales will pick up with the Re-Re-Release of Ninja Gaiden?

it's a popular franchise but not a system seller.
it's a popular franchise but not a system seller.
Popular Franchise? Besides the NES versions (and SNES Collection), most people wouldn't really consider Ninja Gaiden to be much of a franchise. Sure the Xbox versions have been awesome, but its not something like Mario Party, Jak and Dexter etc.

It isn't like jak and dexter lights up the sales charts...yes it does sell well, but much like ninja gaiden for the ps3, jak isn't a system seller.

the word franchise has nothing to do with quality or the old school gamer's nostalgia. it's not a subjective word.

there are 3 versions of the next gen game and the four other old school titles. even if there's only one storyline for the three next gen games, they still make up a series of their own (kinda like SF2 and all the upgrades.) the franchise started with the arcade version of Ninja Gaiden. pretty sure 7 releases counts as a franchise ;)

Added the rankings through 25. There are no numbers for anything outside the top ten though. Games of note would be Shadowrun at #16.

The PS3 port of Oblivion didn't light up the sales charts back in March, and I seriously doubt that a port/remake of Ninja Gaiden will do much better.
