I don't watch tv, so this has been my addiction. More so, over the past month, I read all the comments on the Freep stories about this...pretty entertaining stuff.

I tuned in to WWJ.com from work at 11am. I was worried that Worthy wouldn't go through with it...I was very pleasantly surprised.

Minutes later, it was the headline on CNN, MSNBC and drudgereport. Once again, we're the laughing stock of the country. Now, I'm waiting to hear his mom chime in...
Big surprise there. Detriot is a joke.
I'd be offended, but then I picture you saying that with big eyes and your cute-as-a-button look, and I can't stay mad.

And then I realize: THAT IS YOUR TRUE POWER!!! And I am stunned with awe. And fear.

Anyway, long time no see, DoK. The problems is, Detroit has had corrupt leadership for so long that it is too deeply rooted. Plus, this administartion and the longtime Young administration has gotten Detroiters to basically ask to be put over a barrel and like every moment of it. Any time someone speaks of corruption or problems with leadership, they turn it into a race thing. Hell, that's how Kwame won the last election, was by pulling the race card and accusing his opponent of being suburb friendly. (Around here, even though it isn't really true, suburb = white.)

Detroit has a lot of potential, but voters always seem to put the ones in office who rob the city blind.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend. I meant in the leadership, obviously.

I don't think I've ever seen you pass the opportunity by of bagging on another city/state/government.

Kwame and Suge Night could have been separated at birth. I always get the two confused.

I'm still surprised that this fucker is in office after all the embezzlement activity.
Why is this a surprise? Remember when Robocop had to take out the last mayor by punching through a wall.
I knew someone would make that reference.
If any city's government should be heckled, it sure as hell would be Detroit's.
Chicago is a close second (they would be tied but Chicago seems to hardly ever get the bad press that Detroit does)

He and that Canuck reject will be out tomorrow trying to suck up some attention using the Red Wings.

I am going to the Wing rally. I might need someone to bail me out of jail for knocking out the mayor. So if I don't post for a few days, please return some bottles and rob some bums to get me out of jail.
He and that Canuck reject will be out tomorrow trying to suck up some attention using the Red Wings.
I have a bet with a co-worker on whether he really will go up there and talk before introducing the team. Co-worker says no way since he'll be booed into oblivion, I say he will because his ego won't NOT let him do it.

I think you're right. He probably still thinks he's going to get away with everything. Anyone who goes and if Kwame does try to speak throw some boos his way for me.

However this whole ordeal is resolved, it will end badly for the city.

When my bro-in-law and I were driving to Wings' game one, I was just shocked at how run-down the whole area around the old Tigers Stadium has become. Of course, the residents around there probably couldn't care less, but I was saddened.

Ha, oh man...the reaction during the Red Wings ceremony was AMAZING. He gets intro'd and an AVALANCHE of boos from tens of thousands of people comes pouring in. Drawing straight from the rookie's handbook to pro wrestling, he tries to get a cheap reaction by throwing out meaningless comments, yelling the most popular player names. That didn't work though since the boos were so loud you couldn't even hear him. Then he closes by going for the ultimate cheap reaction, saying something like "I FEEL SO GOOD TODAY, HEY DETROIT, THE BEER IS ON ME!"...and the crowd totally ignores it and continues booing mercilessly.

Can't wait to see this fucking prick face murder charges once he's out of office...I have a feeling they are holding off on those until he's out of office so his power to fight it is limited. In the meantime, hopefully he gets smashed with all the other charges to accelerate the exit process.
Priceless. I wish I was there. I would have been the one to cause the sound to drop or beep.
I didn't hear the audio drop when I was watching the coverage on TV, but Tomas Holmstrom let out a "shit" during the broadcast, so they may not have been paying much attention.

Reminds me of Bill Davidson dropping "bullshit" like 3 times during the Pistons thing in '04. But since he is an old man who will die soon I guess it's ok for him to do it.

I didn't think the crowd would give it to him like they did. It was awesome. You could see Mickey knew it was coming when he introduced Kwame.

You have to remember that the majority of the people down there don't even live in the city so they can boo him all they want. I don't understand why people keep giving him such a hard time when we all know by the time his trial comes up he will be almost out of office anyway. It's like I have been saying ever since this got out if he was smart he should have never ran for a second term then none of this would have mattered as much as it does know.
I don't understand why people keep giving him such a hard time
Because when Detroit rots, it effects the surrounding communities. This "they don't even live in Detroit, their opinion doesn't matter" talking point is nonsense, not to mention really tired.

when we all know by the time his trial comes up he will be almost out of office anyway.
So let's just forget about it and sit around for 18 months until the next election. In the meantime he can continue to waste money, give his friends jobs, fire people without just cause, and generally abuse his power. And perhaps kill a stripper once in a while.

It's like I have been saying ever since this got out if he was smart he should have never ran for a second term then none of this would have mattered as much as it does know.
Why wouldn't he? His ego required him to run again. This isn't about being smart, it's about staying in power, being able to do what he wants, when he wants.

That's because the Daley family has had enough practice to secure an iron grip on anything derogatory about their city (unless, of course, it involves our piss-for-brains Governor Rod  )

On Kilpatrick's going to jail today, I loved it. He's trying to sweet-talk the judge and the guy just slams his ass back to reality.
http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2008/08/judge-sends-det.html
It's about fucking time.

Kilpatrick is doing some serious, serious damage to the state's reputation. The worst part about this is that he still seems to think that he didn't do anything wrong. :wall:

Word is that the state's attorney general will press charges for felonious assault, for this incident.

Granholm (our governor) is going to oversee hearings that could result in his removal from office. Unfortunately, those are something like three weeks away. At the moment, Detroit's mayor is his chief of staff, who was just promoted when his former chief of staff left because of all of these scandals.

fuck.

Gee Dub - it's a start. With the feds investigating the council and the sludge deal, don't think that they aren't digging deeper and we don't know about it yet - that's how the feds operate.

Remember how Kwame's lawyers said that a 6 yr old could defend him and that the texts were not his? Suddenly, they change their tune on want to speed things up. (Of course, they've been fighting the release of the messages all this time.)

FINALLY, after this, business leaders are saying they want him gone. Well, except Compuware's Karmanos who said about Kwame, and I quote, "“He certainly should not resign because he’s the best we have." Ihave family that work at Compuware, and I am embarrassed for them.

I honestly thought Judge Giles was in his pocket, so this was very refreshing - and awesome to hear Kwame get raked. It's about time everyone woke up - between the unapproved Canada trip and the porch indcident, people finally realized that this guy does whatever he wants.

And I am loving every second of it.

But the shadow of corruption falls over so many in the city and affiliated with him, that there's going to be a LOT more coming out. Just wait and see.

Unspoilered TL;DR version: I have been following all of this very closely, and it's about fucking time. And things are going to get very interesting soon...

His ego finally caught up with him. "I'm the mayor of Detroit, I don't need to do what the court says!" Well, not this time, apparently.

I'm sure he'll be out of jail right away (I'd guess tomorrow? I didn't see the specifics of it), but even if it's only 24 hours, I never thought I'd see the day.

What's really going to be a pisser is if he somehow weasels his way out of everything else and this winds up being the only jail time he serves. fuckin' scumbag.

though they are not allowed to raise a stink, I'm still waiting for managerial part of the Illinois IRS to riot because of Blagoyavich. Dude is fucking over the old guard when it comes to pay as he's been putting his friends in there who have no experience or skills and paying them 2-3 times the amount the money that everyone else is making. Dad has been working for the state for 35 years and he just found out that one of Blagoyavich's friends is making 50K more a year while being listed as a janitor.
Hearing to be held at 10AM regarding the assault charge:

http://detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080808/METRO/808080404
A summary of today's events (and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong - it's a bit hard to keep track of the news because it's been piecemeal):

 • He's out of jail for the time being
 • He posted $50,000 bond for the charges from yesterday
 • He's got to wear a tether now
 • He isn't allowed to travel, period.
 • He had two more charges filed against him today, for shoving a police officer

I think that's everything.

The worst part about this all is that there's no chance he's going to resign. If he somehow makes it to November, he's going to get ~$190,000 pension each year for the rest of his life. With any luck, he'll be thrown out of office before then. With all of the damage he's done to Detroit, the surrounding region, and the state as a whole, he doesn't deserve a fucking penny.

fuck, fuck, fuckfuckfuck! This fucking idiot doesn't know when to quit!

After getting thrown in jail for violating the terms of his bond, Kwame spent the weekend violating the terms of his bond by going to his mother's house and having contact with his sister (a witness in that case). Admittedly, it's his second bond, in the assault case, but I'm still hoping that the judges throw him back in the fucking slammer for this. Apparently, that's the only way to keep him in line.

You can bet your asses any tether was a suggestion by Obama's people. They already asked this asshole to not show up at the Democratic Convention and embarrass everybody but the prick said he was planning on going anyway.

DETROIT -- Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has accepted a plea deal in a perjury case and assault charges that will end his tenure as the city's mayor and send him to jail.

Wayne County Circuit Court Judge David Groner resided over the court case in which Kilpatrick agreed to plead guilty to two felony counts of obstruction of justice by committing perjury.

Part of the plea agreement includes immediate resignation within 14 days; pay restitution of $1 million; and four months in jail. He is also barred from running for public office for five years.

He will also have to hand over his law license and turn over his state pension to the city of Detroit.

Judge Groner read aloud all of the charges against Kilpatrick and told him all but two would be dismissed.

He also asked Kilpatrick several questions regarding his guilty plea, and whether he was doing it on his own willingness and whether he was satisfied with what was taking place.

Kilpatrick answered each question and stated that he knew exactly what was taking place and was agreeing to plead guilty.

"I lied under oath in the case of Gary Brown in a civil deposition regarding information of claims I mislead and impeded justice. I also lied under oath at a civil deposition on Oct. 11, 2004 in the Harold Nelthrope lawsuit," Kilpatrick told the judge.

Kilpatrick, 38 years old and in his second four-year term as mayor, was charged with 10 felonies in two cases.

In the first case, he and Christine Beatty were charged with perjury, conspiracy, misconduct and obstruction of justice. They are accused of lying during the 2007 whistle-blowers' trial about having an extramarital affair and their roles in the firing of a deputy police chief.

Text messages from Beatty's city-issued pager contradicted their testimony.

Kilpatrick will be sentenced Oct. 28 at 2 p.m.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy told the media after the court hearing there was not alot she was going to say at this point.

"I am going to wait until this final sentence is announced. A plea is never final until the judge signs off on the sentencing," Worthy said.

In the second case, Kilpatrick was charged with two counts of assault after he allegedly shoved a Wayne County detective into an investigator while they were trying to serve his friend a subpoena.

The Michigan Attorney General's Office offered a new plea to Kilpatrick on Thursday.

Doug Baker said the two sides had agreed to an agreement that if Kilpatrick pleads no contest on the first count of assault, the second count will be dismissed at time of sentencing.

Baker said that deal would require Kilpatrick's immediate resignation from his job as the mayor of Detroit and will spend jail time concurrent with the previous plea deal.
Hell yeah! That doesn't sound like much of a bargain though. I wonder how hard he would've been hit had they gone to trial . . . . .
I don't know about that.

The guy used his political influence to bully law enforcement. The guy showed disdain for the legal system with his obvious lies. Character counts for something in sentencing, and this guy doesn't have too much that's favorable in that department as well - what with his egomania, putting his interests over those of Detroit, not to mention all of the bad press for a city that already has it's more then it's share of economic problems.

On top of all of it, Kwame played the poor people for suckers. He could have done some real good, he could have helped them out, instead he's just an egomaniacal bully whose political career ends with a punchline.

Not only did my boss not give a damn if I watched the proceedings, he actually watched it with me. Nice start to a Thursday.

Pretty goddamn sad for the city, but at least this wannabe gangsta is out of office. Pleasantly surprised how hard he was hit, but I guess he knew he was running out of bargaining room. If this went to trial he would have been REALLY fucked.
