McCain suspends campaign to "focus on economy" - delay debates

Because he had shown up recently so much in DC? Plus I thought the economy was strong? Then some Republican asshole tried to blame the problems now on Bill Clinton in 1999!

The Republicans are evil and will try anything to win (or steal0 and election and the democrats are so god damn wussie babies they will sit they and take it.

I'll be there 10/2 through Sunday evening. We should grab a beer.

That homeboy Strell comin' with?

By the way, I have a request: can someone 'Shop Sarah Palin in a popemobile for me? I'm just dreadful with the program, I admit.

This is, without a doubt, the best election ever.

PS - check out the front page of the national enquirer.

Also, watch Letterman tonight:

From Drudge...
EXCLUSIVE: LETTERMAN MOCKS MCCAIN CANCELLATION
Wed Sep 24 2008 17:41:58 ET

David Letterman tells audience that McCain called him today to tell him he had to rush back to DC to deal with the economy.

Then in the middle of the taping Dave got word that McCain was, in fact just down the street being interviewed by Katie Couric. Dave even cut over to the live video of the interview, and said, "Hey Senator, can I give you a ride home?"

Earlier in the show, Dave kept saying, "You don't suspend your campaign. This doesn't smell right. This isn't the way a tested hero behaves." And he joked: "I think someone's putting something in his metamucil."

"He can't run the campaign because the economy is cratering? Fine, put in your second string quarterback, Sara Palin. Where is she?"

"What are you going to do if you're elected and things get tough? Suspend being president? We've got a guy like that now!"

ALSO: Palin did an interview with Katie Couric, too. Wheeeeeeeee!
Why does the OP's post vary significantly from the one on MSNBC? Particularly where I bolded? Whos idea was this?
Because his source is a partisan hack (drudge). We've covered this many times, but people like Thrust continue to let Drudge filter their news for them so they only hear the side he wants them to hear... which of course dampens positive Dem press and amplifies positive Rep press.

Are you joking or being purposely obtuse and ignorant?

We covered this. Drudge simply posted the announcement from the McCain camp within seconds of it being released. It was not a link to a story, because there WERE NO STORIES YET. That's what I copied, because it was BREAKING and straight off the wire.

It was not a story. There was no added spin. There was no fucking filter. Drudge just posted it as it came, hence the DEVELOPING at the bottom. It was not given context of the day and flavor, as a STORY would have. The MSNBC article was and did, and came out afterwards AS A fucking NEWS STORY.

Since I posted, and SINCE the MSNBC story, drudge now has several added negative-for-McCain side stories to it at the top of his page.

Put down your stereotypical dumbass lefty playbook and read, think, and analyze for a once.

The absolute fact of the matter, and I honestly don't care whether or not you acknowledge this fact, is that Drudge's site assimilates articles that lean his (partisan) way. His site is partisan. Fact.

If you want to use Drudge as a news source in addition to other (nonpartisan, or liberal-leaning partisan) sources, that's absolutely fine. So long as you're seeing both sides of the story. But please, don't try to tell me Drudge is balanced. Such an assertion insults my intelligence. It does nothing but show that you think I'm stupid, to believe such a blatant lie. Drudge is a partisan hack, and his site reflects that.

Aren't you the one who posted some Mexican anti-global warming article by a lone scientist that he had run through Google translate and posted as a headline? I'll be in the corner LOLing if you need me.

Putting words in my mouth won't absolve you of being a knee jerking fool of yourself in post before last. Automatically assuming that because I simply pasted a newswire feed, and it's source, for people to discuss, I somehow endorse the source(s) is assanine and you know it.

I never defended Drudge. I don't care if he's a partisan hack. I don't care about him. I check his site, among others, because he breaks news stories first, often. That's why he has the most popular site on the net. People from all political leanings check it. That's a fact you have to accept along with your belief in his partisan hack.

it is hilarious to me that the McCain people are seriously positing the idea of indefinitely postponing the VP debate and think America won't see what they're doing.

McCain needs to quit shitting his pampers and get his ass behind the debate podium. And Sarah Palin needs to take her medicine, at long last. I'm sure this seemed like a great idea back before the convention, but the chickens are coming home to roost.

OMG, I'm sooo going to do this tonight... I'll have that pic up as soon as it's done.

This is how the GOP wins every time, they are sneaky, dirty liars that won't stop until they are in office, and the Democrats will just sit there and take it. The majority of the American people are too stupid to understand and that's how we get into these messes.

Wow!!! So McCain called up Letterman to say that he won't be appearing on his show because he had suspended his campaign to go to Washington to fix our economy, and is seen being interviewed by Katie Couric while his show is taping? Wow! So does that mean he just straight up... lied to him then?

Wow. I really think that Letterman's banter will do a lot of damage to McCain.

Didn't see that one coming.

So, was Olbermann the last minute fill-in, perhaps to really rub it in about McCain? Or was it a coincidence?

Not only that, but now this from Politico:

A non-emergency meeting

The McCain campaign's new urgency about the financial crisis didn't entirely clear his schedule this morning.

My colleague Amie Parnes reports that he made it to his scheduled morning meeting with Lady Lynn de Rothschild, a Clinton backer who recently came out in support of him.

All while Obama was waiting by the phone for a returned call.

John McCain is a dissembler and a fucktard and it makes me SO happy that this is all blowing up in his face.

It clearly was a rub to McCain. I mean seriously, Olbermann? No fucking way that was a coincidence. Especially considering the harsh words Letterman had for McCain.

If it was Olbermann on Letterman (I don't watch Late Night TV anymore, I've heard it all before anyways) no way in hell is it a coincidence.

Yeah, I didn't think it was a coincidence - but I haven't watched a late night talk show since...god only knows how many years it's been.

Anyone know what the audience said when Letterman was asking where our second string quarterback is? Someone in the audience shouted an answer and Letterman said thank you but I can't heard what they said. Its around the 5:50 mark in that video.

You do know you're talking about the guy that won the Vietnam War and invented the Blackberry, right?

Update: Now McJane is trying to get the VP debates canceled. Can you really blame him after seeing how badly Palin tanked with Couric?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMQxDprCVbE

You damn well know that McCain (and Bush) will declare victory when a deal is reached tomorrow or Friday. If I were the democrats i wouldn't have a deal until then weekend (yes work on a weekend) so if McCain didn't show up for the debate Obama would have 90 minutes of air time to himself.

And I fell asleep with the TV on, then woke up to the news just now. It seems like I was having a nightmare, but it's all too real.

The closer the debates are to the election seems like a win for Obama, that way the debate is fresh in people's minds. That's of course assuming that Obama/Biden will own McCain/Palin.

Letterman made a great point. Why not let his Vice President continue the campaign on his behalf? Why bring the whole thing to a grinding halt? he thinks Sarah Palin can be President of the United States...but she can't make a few media appearances for the campaign while he is away?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vbg6hF0nShQ

oh wait, he must have seen that. Now I understand.

Wow. I guess that's what she's like when she doesn't have her speech writers or any jokes to tell.

"But... he's a maverick? Remember? You can't trust polls, no one likes Obama. Maverick!"

Has she never taken a speech class? That was horrid. Stumbling over every answer, repeating herself constantly, taking huge pauses in her responses like a kid trying to think of a quick lie when their mom catches them stealing cookies.

Come on, do you think Palin even has a remote chance against Biden? She could barely get through a Hannity interview and practically melted down with Couric.

Joey's gonna slap her around so hard her daughter is going to miscarry.

Fair enough.

Looks like they'll turn the Miss. debate into an Obama town hall if John "Lily Liver" McCain doesn't show. 90 minutes of unfettered national coverage devoted to Obama? OUCH.

From HuffPo:

Obama Will Make Debate A Townhall If McCain Doesn't Show

Barack Obama is committed to hosting a public, televised event Friday night in Mississippi even if John McCain does not show up, an official close to the Obama campaign tells the Huffington Post.

In McCain's absence, the Senator is willing to make the scheduled debate a townhall meeting, a one-on-one interview with NewsHour's Jim Lehrer, or the combination of the two, the official said.

Such a course of action could make life incredibly difficult for McCain, who has called for the suspension of the debate in light of the current economic crisis. Should he stay in Washington D.C. -- if a bailout is not completed by then -- and let Obama alone reach tens of millions of television viewers?

A lot, of course, depends upon what the debate commission decides to do. At this point in time, there is no indication that they are going to postpone the affair, as the McCain campaign has asked.

Separately, on Thursday, Obama himself said he was intending to go to Oxford, Miss for the scheduled debate and called on McCain to be there with him.

"The American people deserve to hear directly from myself and Sen. McCain about how we intend to lead our country," Obama said. "The times are too serious to put our campaign on hold, or to ignore the full range of issues that the next president will face."

Meanwhile, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour said on Thursday that he expected the debate to go forward as planned.

Oh, btw: Looks like the dems and repubs on the banking committee just announced they have reached an agreement already and believe they have the votes to get it through the House and Senate. Surely we have McCain to thank for this breakthrough, despite the fact that he's in no way associated with that committee and only arrived in D.C. an hour ago.

Guess he shoulda crammed for the debate, huh?

Biden can't win in a debate because Palin is such an idiot that if she says anything it's a win.

Biden doesn't go after her, she wins.
Biden goes after her, he's attacking a woman!

Maybe McCain should be replaced with Ron Paul?

Its a good idea. The thing that really pisses me off though is you know that even if the MI debate just dissapears and the "economic crisis" is over by Monday that the McCain camp will still use this as an excuse for Palin to not have to debate next week.

Why would Republicans want Palin anywhere near a microphone in the next two months? The more they play up the harried soccer mom the more they suck in the ignorant and naive. I actually heard one woman in a grocery store say Sarah Palin shouldn't have to debate because she's a mom and what mom has time for debates?

I hope you explained to the woman she shouldn't bother voting because she is too busy shopping and making dinner.

You should have turned around and mollywopped her. Seriously if you think that its more important to spend time with your kids then debate then more power to you.....but then you better be with your kids and not even running for office. Seriously you should have turned around and said ya, a woman President would be great but when it comes to this woman she has a more usefull place in the kitchen then on stage, more use with a wang in her face them a mic :) o yes I went there.
