Several lanes of traffic were shut down while emergency officials cleaned up. Nobody was injured in the crash, which happened around 9:30 a.m. The road was closed until about 3:15 p.m. while workers scooped up the mess with a front-loader.
Joshua Boone, 21, of Ludlow, said a red minivan cut him off in traffic, which made him lose control of his white Toyota Camry. The car spun and was struck head-on by a Griffin Industries tractor trailer carrying scrap meat. The car slammed in to the median wall.
The driver of the truck, John Chambers, said he tried to stop, but the tractor trailer also struck the median wall, which took a chunk out of the truck. It overturned, spilling the spoiled meat all over the highway. A witness said the truck's cab was briefly airborne.
Nobody was injured in the accident, which occurred just north of the I-275 interchange.
