Media Play deals

CAGiversary!
Staying the weekend in Atlanta and saw this in the Paper:

Media Play

Deal 1: $5 off any video game Jan 16 and 17th - no limits
Deal 2: Buy any used DVD, Video Game or CD and get a second for $1. No limit, discount taken from lowest priced item.
Deal 3: Get an additional 25% of any clearance item.

Never heard of this place before, deals are not good on internet sales. To find a location: www.mediaplay.com

If there are no restrictions for deal 1, it could be a way to pick up some free or very cheap games depending on if they have anything for $4.99 or around that price.

Just found out that one is less than a mile from my hotel.

BTW: Sunday and Monday only on these.

Fine print on the $5 off - Reg price of 29.99 or more; sorry that I missed that. no dollar limits on the others. Gues No limits means as to qty for Deal 1.

So this is for Jan 16-17th only?

Since deal one only applies to games $30 and up, deal 2 will have to do.

But then I could go in and get a used $30 game and pick up another used $30 for $1? Or maybe pick up 3 used $5 games and get 3 more used $5 games for a buck (for a total of $18), trade all six into EB games and make at least $12 in credit. It seems like there should be some sort of restriction on this deal... But hey, their loss is my gain. Hopefully they have some stuff other then Eternal Ring and ShadowMan 2.:p

Ever been to a Media Play? The price gouge there is INSANE. NFSU used = $39.99. New = $39.99

Almost EVERY game that was used was ABOVE the NEW MSRP. Example? Smackdown HCTP = $32.99 when it was new for $19. Normal $19.99 new titles, like Simpsons Hit & Run, had used copies priced at $22.99. Even if you bought one and got one for $1, you would STILL overpay!

Or maybe that's just mine. Nothing is ever priced below $9.99.. or $14.99, for that matter.

The two closest to me went out of business, but tomorrow we were planning on going to Enfield, CT, where there is one.

Deal 2: Buy any used DVD, Video Game or CD and get a second for $1. No limit, discount taken from lowest priced item.

That seems nice, if I can find anything.

IDK if that sentence I bolded changes anything for you guys but I don't think it's such a great deal, maybe I'm just an idiot!

Nope your description is accurate of the media plays I've been to. Even worse they do the remove new games for display crap and then try to sell the removed games unsealed for new price...fuckING GAMESTOP/EB bullshit policy.

I have never seen anything under $20 at mine, because of that they closed down and now the mall bought it and it is going to be the main entrence to the mall with stores on the sides. :)

Well if there are two used games under $8, I guess it would still be good.

My ad doesn't say anything about $1.99 to $7.99 and I got three $12.99 games for $1 today.

Have you ever had them try price-scanning things? I at Media Play around Christmas & saw a used copy of "The Bouncer" tagged ~$30. Just out of curiousity (and to see how much it traded in for), I asked someone to scan it for me to see the current price -- it was actually only about $8 or so. Same situation was true with several older PS1 games that I had them scan that were marked with absurdly high prices.

So, from what I was able to gather, it's quite possible that many of the games have been sitting there for a while and have dropped in price considerably since they were tagged. But, since the tagged prices are so high, no one bothers to even check the prices.

This is the first time I ever been to one and was very unimpressed with the store, the only cool thing was the Asian candy they sold. The used game selection was weak (I got there at around 1PM, so it might have been picked over) and some of the prices were the same as what I could find new; but there were some decent deals. Picked up 9 games ranging from $12.99 for 5, $14.99 and $17.99. So for $88 I got 9 games. One guy was getting newer ones for $30 and getting a third $30 for $1; I just went with older ones I didn't have yet.

The games were the same price as EB or in two cases $3 more. Not a big deal since three were only $1. This was in Alpharetta (Atlanta) across the road from a CompUSA.

One thing that was very weird, anytime someone was buying a game the cashier would have to tell then what was wrong with it, "Last year Madden is so much better than this years" was what I heard him telling a lady getting the new madden. Or he would tell someone he played the game they were buying, but didn't like it. He looked very stoned out though.

I might stop buy another one tomorrow to see if it is just as bad. Only good thing today was getting some Best buy gift cards with the new $5 coupon, the store had tons.
Ok, then where does this guy get his info from...

What games did you get?
That's what my sales ad says. IDK maybe it varies with region, I'm from Michigan. The store markdown code on my ad is 923 if that helps anybody.
Ok, then where does this guy get his info from...

Sorry 8 games, 6 at $12.99

I got Haunted Mansion, Taz, Wakeboarding, Silent Hill 2, Frenzy Karting, Outlaw golf 2, Shenmue 2 and Dead or Alive 3.

I just reread the coupon and it does state $1.99 to $7.99, but that store was doing it for all of them. YMMV, Damn if I would have noticed that in the first place I never would have even went to the store. Sorry for the mix up guys, but the code 923 that the cashier used works on any iprice, I got three $12.99 with a "$1.00 MKDN 923 -$11.99" under them and a price of $1.00

I saw a guy getting a $30 game for a buck, maybe the cashier really was stoned.

One more note: No a single scratch on any onf the games, no smudges, fingerprints and only one didn't have a manual.

I managed to get Bloodwake (XBox) for $9.99 the other day at Media Play. Not a bad price for a decent game.

Steve

Thanks agent_logan, I'll try to get to a Media Play and check this out. (Arg, I was just at one yesterday, too. :x )

Is it just me or have people noticed that Media Play's "used" games seem to be just opened overstock. I have never seen people trade games in to them and their selection NEVER seems to change.

No, they actually do have used games...

Remember the deal back during fall, trade in any 5 games and get a new release for free?

That's why they have so many crappy games that people normally do not buy. And with their high prices on used games, they'll never sell them.
