FYI - BEWARE !!

Went to the Ann Arbor, MI store today and every single 8.99 game had been repriced back to it's original price !

The store is closing and all game software was a whopping 10% off the original stickered price. NOTHING was 8.99 !

This is an enormous amount of suck as I was about to save a bunch of money on some x-mas presents

Media Play / Sam Goody - Sale Game List

FYI - There have been posts of some Sam Goody stores not having a lot of these games marked as clearance and 1 such report at 1 Media Play location so far. It has been recommended to take them to the register as a sale and not to a price checker station to get the actual price.

This thread has apparently been merged with Video-Gamer's thread about the Sam Goody sale. Props to him for letting us know about that one and to all others who have contributed to this list. But remember, it's not about the cred, it's about the cheap games!

Someone mentioned that any 19.99 game was now 8.99. This isn't true as far as I know. The signs are marked "selected" titles previously 19.99 and below. There were plenty of new release games in the regular game aisle at full price. These 8.99 games were on a seperate rack in the center of the store

Anybody see anything else and care to add to this list? just post and I'll update.
Any errors? Please let me know do I can correct them.

I tried to resist this deal, but I just had to swing by my local SG today and check it out. Came away with several older games I had been looking for for cheap, and one Christmas present that a co-worker has been looking for. :) I got:

PS2:

Jade Cocoon 2 (the gift)
Xenosaga II
Tak 2: The Staff of Dreams
Whiplash
Street Fighter Anniversary Collection

GC:

Mega Man Anniversary Collection
Wario World

Most of these were the last copies my store had. All except for Whiplash were open-cases as well. All look brand-new tho, except for SF:AC which has a lot of fingerprints on the disk, and Xenosaga II, which has scratches on both disks. I'm kinda upset about Xenosaga, but I've decided to keep it anyway since my local TRU didn't have this one when it hit $10 and I haven't seen it this cheap anywhere else.

I was hoping for Tales of Symphonia and Seven Samurai: 20XX, but no such luck. Believe it or not, Seven Samurai was the main one I really wanted, since I've been trying to land a deal on that one for a while now. Oh well, one day...

Thanks OP, and anyone else who contributed to this list. :)
He did say it started as a regional post, so he probably didn't even see your thead here in the main forum. It's only 1 thread and you already had plenty of thanks from others (including myself) in that thread. Anyways, thanks to both of you for sharing this info.
i didnt said you didnt thanked me or others didnt.
but there were othres that didnt say thanks, which i didnt mind any way, the ones that did say made up for it, but to lock my thread just like that is not nice.

Sorry to have you doubting.........but I bought TWO KR:party for $8.99. One is on Ebay right now!! The other one is for my little girl for Bday or Christmass.

Dang......gotta go later. Some of those GBA games look okay, and a few of the PS2 titles catch my eye.

Can anyone else confirm this? I don't doubt that you bought them for this price, mer71, but I'm just curious if it's priced this way across the board or if someone just messed up at your location (which sounds likely, unfortunately).

Good find either way! :)

I'll try it today when I go and report back although I feel like this is going to be another of those times where it'll ring up full price and I'll have to act like I forgot to bring money or act dumb (ie: tell them I thought it was part of the sale).

At least tell me if Karaoke Revolution Party was just the disc or did it come with microphone?

why don't you just ask them to check the price? that's what i did with Arc the Lad Collection, which was marked $75. the lady said it had been sitting around forever, and when she checked it, it was $9. same with Dragon Warrior 7.

Heh, a $66 savings.

I'm back from the mall. It was crazy. Unfortunately, the Sam Goody I went to didn't have Karaoke Revolution Party for any of the systems. I did see Karaoke Rev. 2 for PS2 for $8.99 so I don't know if it's a possible mis pricing with Revolution Party. There really wasn't anything good there unfortunately.

Did it scan that way, or did they override the price because it may have been mismarked? Was it the Xbox or PS2 version. Just hard to believe it wasn't a mismark considering the game's release date was 11/08/05.

This sale is great, here is my haul:

PS2
-----
Xenosaga
Xenosaga 2
Mega Man X8
Mega Man X Command Mission
Viewtiful Joe
Viewtiful Joe 2
The Bards Tale

Gamecube
-------------
Puyo Pop Fever

GBA
------
Boktai
Boktai 2
Astro Boy
Rebelstar Tactical Command (this looked interesting, anyone play this?)

Unfortunately the Gamecube and DS games I was wanting from the list were long gone. Still tons of games left though, I might have to make another run after payday this week. :) My back queue of unplayed games is getting ridiculous. I hit up both Media Play stores in Toledo, OH btw. Thanks OP!

It's supposed to be by the makers of XCom and it's supposed to be a surprisingly good strategy game. I've heard nothing but praise so far so...enjoy the catch! Now I have to go back and see if my Sam Goody has one outside of the bin area.

You know, I never looked at the receipt, I just paid $28 and change for 2 KRP and MX Unleashed. It is the disk only, which is cool, I have a mic and headset. If it was a mistake, I am lucky. Guess I should move that to the bragging forum.

well the question is, did u buy it at Media play or Sam Goody and did it scan at 8.99 or was it an override?

Media play had a great selection overall. Some games on the lists weren't included, but there were several games not on the list include as well. Of course I bumped into one of the friendly neighborhood hoarders today. The guy had about 150 games in his cart. I was curious to see what he was getting so I spoke with him for a minute. He told me it was his 6th store in the last 2 days. Most of the games he was getting were the more recent ones not really the best ones of the list. Here I was trying to just take 2 copies of a game max and the guy was taking the whole stack. Seems to be happening more and more lately.

I guess i should be considered lucky since there obviously are no hoarders in my area, a hoarder in my area would be a soccer mom buying 5-10 games for her kids and the grandchildren... lol.

Media play had a ton of games left, literatly tons, they must have expected to clean out 75% of their games in stock during this weekend!

Picked up THUG 2 for PS2, saw NBA Street V3 with the $8.99 sticker but it rang up for $49.99 and they said someone must have put the $8.99 sticker on it and wouldn't honor it. No big deal as I already got it for $10 at the KB sale but was going to get this one for a gift.

Sorry if this has been asked but any game that is 19.99 or under is automatically changed to 8.99 or do they have to have that red 8.99 sticker on them?

What I find shocking is that back when Best Buy had their great markdown party four people raided the entire game section just one minute after opening. I couldn't get anything remotely worthwhile and I got there thirty seconds after they rushed the section with baskets and carts.

And yet the nearby Sam Goody still has tons of their $9 titles, not to mention the fact that they put out more of them since a few days ago and they're all still there. I'm just shocked that some people will completely ravage one deal and yet not even touch another, especially since there are signs all over the store and in front of the store about this deal.

Oh well, I don't mind much. I'm just glad I picked up two titles I wanted for prices under what I was willing to pay. Ahhhh...Christmas in, er, November...

I picked up Chronicles of Riddick and Narc in White Marsh, MD today. Thanks, OP!

I was kind of surprised how many games were left. Most of it was stuff I wasn't interested in, but I was the only one digging through a huge 3' x 3' wire bin full of titles right in the front of the store.

I got the KRP at Sam Goody. Like I said the guy didn't say anything about a mistake or override. But then again I wasn't paying attention to him, I was eye balling the selection behind the counter and a 20Gig MP3 player at 50% clearence (3 of them). I will have to find the receipt and see if anything was changed.
Got Drakengard there today for $8.99, so you can add that to the list.
Dammit! I saw that one and would have picked it up for $8.99 too! Ah well.

I got:

Tales of Symphonia x2 (sealed)
Midway Classics 2 (PS2) x1 (not sealed)
Rumble Roses x1 (not sealed)
Super Monkey Ball Deluxe (PS2) x1 (not sealed)

I would love to trade one of the above for Advance Wars 2 or Toe Jam and Earl 3. ^_~
Half of the games on this list weren't marked down at my media play. YMMV
As in not marked down on the label, or at the register? I'd say less than half the games on the list at my Media Play had the $8.99 sticker. I had two games that didn't appear to be marked down, and they when I asked an employee to check prices, they came up at full price. He told me to try at the register, though, as the markdowns are apparently not in the system that the floor reps can check.

Sure enough, both games came up as $8.99. Being a national chain with a centralized inventory/price control system, it would be very strange for this to be YMMV.

All the games had the labels on them here, they did a very good job with that.

It is funny how the people will ravage to one sale and then ignore the rest, when toys r us was at the beginning of the green tag games they cleaned out the games and next door sears was having a clearance on games as well and barely anything was touched!

Got a few good deals today, but I already owned most of the games I would have wanted from the master list.

I picked up:

Pure Pinball: American Pinball Reborn (Xbox)
Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders (Xbox)
Secret Weapons Over Normandy (PS2)
Namco Museum (Non Player's Choice!!!) (Gamecube)
Mega Man Zero 3 (GBA)

There were a ton of games incorrectly marked. I tried buying MGS3, Midnight Club 3, SSX On Tour, and Karaoke Revolution Party all marked $8.99, but rang up full price and the manager would not adjust the price and pulled them off the shelves. They even had multiple copies of the same game mispriced. ...oh well.

I don't know about all states, but I know in Wisconsin there is a truth in pricing law, which states that if an item is labeled at a particular price and presented for purchase, the store must honor it.
I don't know about all states, but I know in Wisconsin there is a truth in pricing law, which states that if an item is labeled at a particular price and presented for purchase, the store must honor it.
A few states have that same law; I know they have it in California and all stores are required to have it displayed by the registers. HOWEVER, stores can easily get out of that with loopholes: A store reserves the right to refuse service to any person and a store has the right to refuse a sale as long as they have the sign posted somewhere in the store.

Couple more to add to the list:
Crazy Taxi 3 Xbox
Pac Man World 2 Gamecube (the one without the Pac man vs disk) - This one actually didn't scan, so they gave it to me for $8.99
PN 03 Gamecube
Eternal Darkness Gamecube
Bomberman Generation Gamecube
WWE Day of Reckoning 1 Gamecube
Mega Man Network Transmission Gamecube $9.88

Games not $8.99:
Toe Jam and Earl 3 Xbox- came up $49.99
Whack a Mole GBA - $19.99
Metal Slug 3 - $39.99
Super Monkey Ball 2 Gamecube -$29.99
Halo Xbox - $19.99
FF VII PS1 - $14.99

I tried Mario Golf for GBA, but it said it wasn't in the system. I picked up Viewtiful Joe(PS2). They didn't really have anything...

Oh wow, I have some replay dollars to spend. I will have to cave in and make a trip to the mall when I'm out tomorrow (I hate going there so I have to make every trip count).
I don't know about all states, but I know in Wisconsin there is a truth in pricing law, which states that if an item is labeled at a particular price and presented for purchase, the store must honor it.
On the flipside: last time I heard, if a customer is actually caught/seen putting a different price tag on an item and tries to buy it, they can be charged with shoplifting.

I stopped by SG yesterday, they had a huge selection on their racks, with $8.99 stickerflags popping up over the games that were on sale. I don't know about Whac-a-Mole (nor do I care...c'mon, Whac-a-Mole???), but every other game was priced correctly.

a few highlights I noticed:

MechAssault 2 LE w/DVD (XBox)
SSX 3 (PS2)
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (PS2 & XBOX)
Street Fighter Anniversary (PS2)
Warioland 4 (GBA)
Blackthorne (GBA)
Spider-Man 2 (GCN)
and at least 50-75 other non-crap titles

I'll be picking up Blackthorne today when I go back. This sale would be so much better if they were $4.99...my purse-strings would be completely sliced off.

I live near Rockford, IL. and I just got back from the Media Play on East State and the Sam Goody in Cherry Vale Mall. Media Play had a really large selection of both Xbox and PS2 games, alot of really good titles. There were also quite a few titles tagged $8.99 that are not on the list here. Can't remember any off the top of my head except for Catwoman and no one cares about that pile of crap but there were some interesting issues with the list. I snagged a copy of Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 at Sam Goody for $8.99 (there were some OK titles there but not as good as Media Play) but all of the copies at Media Play were marked $30.00 and rang up as such when I had them price checked. Both stores had many copies of the original Fable but all were marked $20. Don't know what that means but some of these could be YMMV.
I also noticed that there is massive potential for further titles to be marked down. I saw Bloodrayne 2 for $30 but they had the first one for $40. Obviously an oversight by inventory management and there were many older games that should be cleaned out of stock but are marked with $30-$40 tags. I suggest keeping an eye out as the Christmas shopping season ramps up, this clearence could turn out to be huge.

My credit card hates you guys. :whistle2:( :p

I stopped by my other Sam Goody's at lunch today. Apparently, they're treating the sale there as not only the stuff that's specified $8.99, but anything that's regular $19.99 or less is also $8.99. I picked these four up:

Tales of Symphonia (non-PC, even :) )
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
Suikoden 4
Burnout 3 (Christmas gift)

I thought I had really lucked up since RPG Maker 2 was in the $8.99 bin, but the guy said it rang up for $49.99 and he couldn't mark it down that much. I also passed on a Jak 3 because it was the last copy & the disk was scratched.

If anyone can get Seven Samurai: 20XX, I'm very interested in trading something for it - PM me, ignore my trade list because it's out of date. ;)
