FYI - BEWARE !!

Went to the Ann Arbor, MI store today and every single 8.99 game had been repriced back to it's original price !

The store is closing and all game software was a whopping 10% off the original stickered price. NOTHING was 8.99 !

This is an enormous amount of suck as I was about to save a bunch of money on some x-mas presents

Media Play / Sam Goody - Sale Game List

FYI - There have been posts of some Sam Goody stores not having a lot of these games marked as clearance and 1 such report at 1 Media Play location so far. It has been recommended to take them to the register as a sale and not to a price checker station to get the actual price.

This thread has apparently been merged with Video-Gamer's thread about the Sam Goody sale. Props to him for letting us know about that one and to all others who have contributed to this list. But remember, it's not about the cred, it's about the cheap games!

Someone mentioned that any 19.99 game was now 8.99. This isn't true as far as I know. The signs are marked "selected" titles previously 19.99 and below. There were plenty of new release games in the regular game aisle at full price. These 8.99 games were on a seperate rack in the center of the store

Anybody see anything else and care to add to this list? just post and I'll update.
Any errors? Please let me know do I can correct them.

I picked up brothers in arms, and Breakdown. Might want to add breakdown for the people that missed it at the CC sale like I did

I just got back from my local Meda Play and they had two shelves out front with games, along with a large bin with a bunch of games. It was a little tough finding things in the bin, but I ended up picking up:

Blood Will Tell
Crimson Tears
Street Fighter: Anniversary Collection
My credit card hates you guys. :whistle2:( :p

I stopped by my other Sam Goody's at lunch today. Apparently, they're treating the sale there as not only the stuff that's specified $8.99, but anything that's regular $19.99 or less is also $8.99. I picked these four up:

Tales of Symphonia (non-PC, even :) )
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
Suikoden 4
Burnout 3 (Christmas gift)

I thought I had really lucked up since RPG Maker 2 was in the $8.99 bin, but the guy said it rang up for $49.99 and he couldn't mark it down that much. I also passed on a Jak 3 because it was the last copy & the disk was scratched.

If anyone can get Seven Samurai: 20XX, I'm very interested in trading something for it - PM me, ignore my trade list because it's out of date. ;)
If only that lame ass SG in that mall had Fable Lost Chapters or SW Jedi Knight Academy :)

I'm probably making another trip this evening if I get out of class early enough.

Wow. Thanks to all who pointed out this sale. I would have never even thought to go into a Sam Goody to look for games. I don't think that many would, and it shows. They had some OLD games there, and quite a few from the list. I only ended up getting Astro Boy and the original Advance Wars, but I'm happy.

Went to the only Media Play nearby. It was totally picked over in the sale section (lots of Blinx 2 and Catwoman left over). I got lucky on a couple mis-labled games however, in the non-sale section.

Some prices that do not match the list:
X-Men Legends for PS2 was full price
Crimson Tears was full price
Pitall for PS2 was 8.99

They have a really good selection at that store - probably because no one goes to that mall anymore. :p

I passed over several really good ones I already had, including both Shadow Hearts games. They had at least one more Tales of Symphonia if you're interested in that one as well.

When I was in Media Play a employee mentioned there would be more $8.99 games in the future. Basically he said the list would be updated every so often. Not sure if he was right, but he said it was some promotional they were doing for the holidays for certain Cd's, DVD's, and Games. Does anyone on Cag work at Media to find out the info?

Thanks OP -
Picked up 'Brothers in Arms', 'Prince of Persia:WW', and 'Rainbow 6 : Black Arrow' (all for Xbox) @ $28 and change.

And a note to Pgh CAG's - Robinson Media Play is just about raped, but the Ross park location (in the mall) had tons of stuff.

Couple more to add to the list:

Gauntlet Dark Legacy PS2
Prince of Persia Sands of Time GC
Fairly Odd Parents Shadow Showdown PS2
Harry Potter Prisoner of Azkaban GC
Scooby Doo Night of 100 Frights PS2
Tony Hawk Underground 2 GC
Yu Gi Oh Falsebound Kingdom GC

I got lucky, the store I went to had pulled all the sealed 8.99 games from behind the counter and placed them right by the checkout.

I missed out on Mega Man AC for Xbox, all the Media Plays in my area are sold out. Anyone wants to hook me up with one, PM me and we'll work out the details.

Judging by the responses here I'm guessing some of these titles are YMMV. Either that or there has been mislabeling at some stores. Just an observation.

Yeah, I think a lot of employees at SG don't really know videogames so some things with sequels (such as SSX and Karaoke Rev.) may have the latest version mismarked when they really meant to mark the older ones $8.99. If you do find one mismarked, I guess it's blind luck as to whether the employee will change the price or not.

I managed to pick up Retro Atari for the DS (got two for multiplayer purposes) and Sega Classics. . .

I forgot to look for MX Unleashed (PS2), Viewtiful Joe 1&2, and Astroboy (GBA) while I was there, so I guess I'm going back today.

Steve

I picked up Robots DS and Rayman DS at the west broad st store in columbus, ohio.

They had a ton of Xbox games, and PS2 but hardly any NGC or GBA games.

I would definitely agree on the YMMV for a couple of these games, for example, my local Sam Goody had Brothers in Arms for the xbox but no discount, while another had no GBA games on clearance.

I did, however, pick up Megaman Anniversary Collection (GC) and Megaman & Bass and Super Monkey Ball Jr. for the Gameboy advance.

cheapassgamers, I LOVE YOU

$8.99 each at my sam goody:

Tales of Symponia - last copy
Brothers In Arms
OutRun 2 - last copy
THPS 3 - there was a sticker that said $.99, but they charged $8.99 :(

they ALSO had:

Red Dead Revolver
Eternal Darkness

but didn't know if I should have picked those up??

Yes, you should have. RDR is a very underrated game. And even tho most people like ED more than I do, even I would admit it's well worth $9. Plus, odds are you'll be one of those that loves it (since I'm in the minority ;) ).

Don't feel so bad, I'm with you. $9 bucks isn't bad for ED, but for the most part, I wasn't feelin that game. Something always just seemed off to me. I played through it once and that was good enough for me -- returned it to my little and washed my hands of the matter. :)

The Iowa City Sam Goody had a lot of games on sale, many of which weren't on the list. There were too many for me to remember, but it looked like nearly every $19.99 or under game was on sale.

The ones I bought that weren't on the list were: (all for PS2)

Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow

Evil Dead Regeneration had a sale sticker and is on your master list but they had to manually enter the price.

Are these games brand new & sealed for these prices? Also, this list that I am looking at is YMMV correct? So I can't expect much if I don't get what I want. :(

Chances are that any games you're lucky enough to find will be the store display copy. Depending on how well the store treats their games, most should be mint & complete. Occassionally you can get a sealed one, but just be lucky to get anything! The selection dwindles more & more each day!

The only titles that are YMMV are the ones the store mispriced. A lot of stores put the clearance price on the sequel when only the original was on clearance, and getting a manager to override it and give it to you for $8.99 is where the YMMV part comes in. Good Luck!

Sam Goody leaves all their games sealed, so there's no such thing as a display copy. The games are new.

Since we're getting reports of YMMV stores, can we get some store locations ? When somebody posts "my sam goody has no games left," it doesn't really help anyone unless they know which location to avoid. Knowing which stores have a crapload would be mucho cool as well.

Also, when posting a game not on the list, please include the platform it runs on - THANKS !!

Maybe the Sam Goody where you live does that, but the three Sam Goody's in the Tampa Bay area all use display copies and almost every $8.99 game they had left was opened and behind the counter with only the empty case being displayed on the shelf, kind of like eb games.

Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever gotten a sealed game from any Sam Goody in all my years. Seems like they only ever have one copy of anything.

Same with every Sam Goody I have been to. Almost everything is a display copy. For a while FYE was the same way but thankfully most FYE stores use those hard plastic frames around the games and leave the games sealed on the shelf.

went back today, and found out there was another SG in town. at the first, i picked up D&D: Heroes and Soul Calibur 2 non-GH for PS2, and at the second Crimson Tears, GG X2 #Reload, and Everquest Online Adventures for $1.88. everything was sealed except GG X2 for xbox.

I finally managed to go to a couple of Sam Goody's today. One of them in Jasper (IN) only had a few games in cardboard boxes right next to the entrance. At least they were sorted in X-Box, GC, PS2 and GBA. Not much there, I grabbed Astroboy and Second Sight for the PS2. They also had Road To Hill 30 marked at 20 but it was not on sale (so they said)

The other Goody's at Vincennes (IN) had a TON of stuff. Man, they must have had a least a couple of hundred games. Two big bin that were overflowing and a bunch of PS2 games on the shelf. I'm half glad and sad that I don't have an XB or GB. If I did it would have cost me a bloody fortune, but I would have gotten some class games for cheap.

As it was I grabbed... Asterix & Obelix Kick Buttix, MX Unleashed, Stolen, Silent Hill 4, LOTR Third Age, Prince of Persia WW (on shelf for 20 but was reduced) Cold Winter and Under The Skin.

The staff at Vincennes were great, they price checked a bunch of stuff for me all with no problems at all, one member of staff even told me about the extra games they had on the shelves.

Thanks to all at CaG, I would never have known about this great sale if it wasn't for this excellent site!

:EDIT: I forget to add that for some reason at Vincennes I was only charged for 7 games instead of 9, so I got 9 PS2 games for about $66 (and only 3 were not sealed)

I think this has been the sale of the year for me. It's ironic that I've been holding out all year for Xenosaga 2 & Suikoden 4 to drop in price, held out on both even when they hit the $20 mark, and ended up getting both from the same sale for $9/ea. :)

How disappointing.. my Sam Goody was kinda picked over. Grabbed MechAssault 2 and Code Veronica X though, so it wasn't a total letdown.

I love this clearance sale! Walked into a Sam Goody today not expecting much, and found Pikmin, Xbox Star Wars Jedi Academy, and the first Shadow Hearts, all still sealed for $9 each.

found me a Rayman ds unmarked but rang up for 8.99 at a media play...and also picked up the Ultimate Matrix set for $37.00, couldnt resist even though i hate the stupid plastic case:cry:

I went to my local sam goody...and they didn't have any games on clearance...

They had these 6 games for $49.99 package...but the 6 games were already packaged together and they were random crappy games...
I love this clearance sale! Walked into a Sam Goody today not expecting much, and found Pikmin, Xbox Star Wars Jedi Academy, and the first Shadow Hearts, all still sealed for $9 each.
I hunted for Jedi Academy in every damned Sam Goody's in the state, and none of them have it (they can do store to store transfers, and one of my local Sam Goody stores checked the inventory of the other stores for a transfer).

This was definately a great sale. I nabbed 2 Shadow Hearts, Red Dead Revolver, Tales of Symphonia, Advance Wars 2, Spiderman 2, Jade Empire LE, both Brothers in Arms (one store sold me the new one by accident), and a few other things that I can't think of off the top of my head.

I believe the sale ends today though.. I wanted to go nab Super Monkeyball Deluxe and Astro Boy on GBA, but I'm happy enough with my haul o' stuff.

Here's what all I got:

Silent Hill 4
Prince of Persia: WW
Kill Switch
Crazy Taxi 3
Bard's Tale
Cold Fear
Dead to Rights II

thanks OP, I stopped by the sam goody at the mall on a whim not really expecting much, but I found a pretty respectable selection of games left. picked up the last copy of Tales of Symphonia, pretty surprised considering the sale has been running for more than a week, including the dreadful black friday weekend.

Stopped by the Ann Arbor store today and contrary to other reports, the sale is still going on.

Doesn't look like they'd want to reprice all those games for a third time by ending the sale. I'm sure they will be that price until they're gone. Media Play does clearance stufff that doesn't move so perhaps we'll see another drop in a few weeks? We can only hope.

hmm i just decided to play Star Fox Assault yesterday only to find that while i had the SFAssault box and manual, the disc was SFAdventures. i hope upon hope they still have the Assault disc, but worst case scenario i get my money back.

I'm not sure what thread you're reading (perhaps the TrU GT?), but this one only has mention of the store hinting at more titles dropping to $8.99 as the holidays draw nearer.

Picked up Pac-World 2/Pac-Man Vs. (GC) on Friday. There hasn't been anything new added to their sale stock yet, but there's still a strong inventory of $8.99 games.

Looks like I'll be going to Sam Goody again this week... I was told by a store manager at one of my local Sam Goody stores that it ended last Sunday. Might as well check it out

I found a Castlevania: Curse of Darkness (the new game) PS2 with a $8.99 sticker at the Brookfield Square mall location in Brookfield, WI (visiting folks). Rang up $49.99, but associate overrode the price. :)

Also got Front Mission 4, since I traded it a while back. Not a great game, but worth having for that price, IMHO. They had an Astro Boy GBA, but couldn't think of anyone to give it to, as I already have it.

Probably going to get rid of the Castlevania, as I have another version. If anyone's interested, PM me.

Is there a dedicated thread to trading from the Sam Goody sale? I might swing by my local SG after school tonight, and I'd gladly pick something up to trade for SW Jedi Academy. I think one of mine still has RPG Maker 2
