I was listening to Radio Nation today when they quoted a response from Shell CEO(owned by GE btw) saying that we shouldn't go to Ethanol because people will starve. Well basically that was the response. I just got a chuckle considering from what I've heard we have a SURPLUS of Corn which is basically gotten rid of through all the High Fructose Corn Syrup you see which is suppose to be the most reasonably priced because they won't import sugar from the Carribbean because it's too cheap or slap a giant tarriff on it and the Sugar Cane in Hawaii is already too expensive I'm guessing.

Not to mention they forcefeed corn to cattle and pigs - and these animals develop weird tumors and all sorts of other health problems before being slaughtered as a result.

I get the Meet the Press podcast. The worst quote was the guy who said "Energy independence is going too far"

We can't afford full ethanol dependance any more than oil. Something to the effect of 75% of the country will need to be corn fields to match our gas usage with ethanol.

Sugar cane ethanol is supposedly much more efficient. However, then the carribean would have us as tightly by the balls as the middle east does now.

Hydrogen is too hard to get, solar is pointless, other electric cars still depend on fossil fuels... Geee, its almost like rocketing across the country in a fiberglass shell at 60-100 mph isn't a natural thing.

For us to make it into the next century we're going to have to go beyond petrolium. Beyond combustion engines. And arguably, beyond Democrats and Republicans and all the BS they entail.

All I is want hyrdogen fuel to power a giant mechanized battle robot that I can drive to work. Is that too much to ask?

When you develop fusion, you'll be the first in line to get one.

I always liked the petrol and rusty-iron WW2 style of the Ring of Red Mech robots. Too bad that never caught on in the "giant robot" genre of games.

Tho what we seriously need is the Mr. Fusion that you can put on the dash of your Delorian and run using banana peels.

Interesting you don't mention Wind Power. Honestly I think a good solution for now to minimize the hurt would be to create a viable nationwide Mass Transit System and trust me, it can be done.
Cars should become a CHOICE, not a neccessity.

Take a wild guess as to why we have a surplus of corn.

Ya know, I've tried really hard to lower the level of discourse on the board, but now you come in and try to steal my thunder. That makes me a blue panda bear.
