Memory Card woes...

Hey guys, I need a little tech help if anyone can offer tips. My card is a 32 meg "Max Memory" card (unsure the manufacturer), and it recently had a problem loading my games of Res Evil 4. I ported them over from my friend's card, and it said the data was corrupt. I erased it, started new game etc, and it still refused to load. Later when I was trying to view the card's data through the PS2 operating system, no games would come up at all, it would just freeze! Not cool at all. Most of my games still seem to be there, but I haven't checked them all yet. Can anyone offer any tips as to how to fix this shit? Thanks guys.
 
If you can find a way, try and format the memory card. Otherwise, it's probably kaput, and you should just get a new memory card.
 
I use my Action replay to do it.

I'm going to guess that your card is made by Intec. I'm pretty sure I can't trust Intec. The memory card that came with my Action Replay hasn't worked out of the box, nor does it seem like it ever will work (meanwhile the AR can read the card, but nothing else can).
 
Mine was up around the 16 mb mark I believe.

Yeah, I doubt I will be trusting 3rd party periphrials again. A friend of mine had a world of problems with his 3rd party card, forget what type though.
 
Those 3rd party memory cards which hold multiple times the data that the official ones hold usually have a lot of problems. I'd just buck down and get a official 8MB one. I have had 2 third party PSone memory cards, which were regular 15 block size and never had a problem though.
 
my DC card is 4x the DC limit. Meanwhile, it seemed to just be 4 separate cards and I would use a switch to go between them all.
 
I have a 64mb memory card for the PS2 that works perfectly. I save all my games to it and have never had a problem. I'm not sure of the make but I think its 'Max Memory'.
 
I have a 16mb max memory card and the same thing happened to me. I had to format it, and to do that I did it with the mini cd that came withe the memory card. I'm not sure if the 32mb came with the cd I'm speaking of, but if it did, just use that to format it.
 
I can't find the exact link anymore, but I remember reading about this problem in the past. The way that saving was coded by Capcom for RE4, the game simply cannot handle a memory card greater than 8MB. I believe it has something to do with addressing. Perhaps you'll be able to find the fix, as I think there was a way to restore your card and possibly use the save again (change the icon to blank using a cheat device/save manager or something like that? It rings a bell). I Google a few different terms and looked around a bit, but couldn't find my original source for this info. Hopefully someone who reads this will remember and be able to help you out the rest of the way. ;)
 
Thanks Genocidal, I may email Capcom about this and see if I can get the goods from them. That's really frustrating though. I remember hearing about a glitch in a Viewtiful Joe demo a few years ago that would blank your card, and I always thought "Man, it would totally suck to have that happen!". Now, I'm livin' it.
 
The only thing they're going to tell you is that their game wasn't made to support non-licensed products and that if you do use them, they won't be held responsible for any damage it may cause to your game or system. Of course, I would love it if they proved me wrong.
 
Just never buy a third party peripheral again, they seem to mess up most of the time. The best ones would probably nyko or logitech though..

I wouldn't say most of the time. Just more than first party peripherals. Even then, some first party peripherals can be pretty junky.
 
Every time I hear someone with a memory card problem, it's 3rd party. Will people ever learn?

Sony's memory cards use a copyrighted technique that 3rd party companies cannot legally use. That's why you have problems.
