Memory Stick size limit for Ys: Ark of Napishtim?

Wolfpup

CAGiversary!
Has anyone heard of a Playstation game not being able to save to a memory stick before if the stick is too big?

I just tried to start Ys 6, and it's giving me an error that my Memory Stick doesn't have enough free space, when in reality it's got several GB free. Is the game hard coded, and confused?

I'll have to see if I still have my original 32MB stick...

Dammit.

That sucks if it's true for all system + large memory stick combination. I'll check my copy tonight and report back.

I just found and tried my original 32MB Memory Stick, and it worked fine, so I guess the game is hard coded to check Memory Stick's wrong. (Who knows what they did-maybe look at used space instead of free, assuming Memory Sticks were all 32MB?)

I'm almost certain I've played games older than Ys that worked fine with a 4GB stick-launch stuff even. So hopefully this is a rare problem. Guess it turns out I'm lucky I kept my 32MB stick! :whistle2:D

Probably won't start it until next week, but right off the bat, Ys' music is good.

I tried it last night with a 8gb card that has about 1.1gb of free space and it worked fine. Card is a Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo Mark 2. PSP is an early 3000 series.

There is at least one game that has that problem, Brooktown High. I believe it actually warns you about it in the manual.

Weird. Mine's the same model system and Memory Stick, but in 4GB, and it won't work. What's going on?

And thanks for the info DiscoJer! I thought I'd heard of this before.

Is your MS an honest to goodness Sony one, or did you happen to buy it off eBay on the cheap? Naturally, the one that came with your system is going to be Sony approved so it would work.

Yep, mine is real, that Magicgate stuff supported. I never buy anything from eBay. Think I got this one with credit from Gamestop.

How much free space was on your 4gb card when you tried to save?

Thinking back, I believe Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max (or whatever the subtitle is) has a similar problem on PSP. I should've tested it before I traded it to Gamestop. People on gamefaqs were complaining about the issue being present on the DD version of the game which made it almost unplayable for PSP Go owners (thanks to having 16gb of memory to start with). The fix for SFA3 was to have (I think) less that 1gb of free space on whatever storage device you were using.

I'd have to pull out my card to get an exact amount, but I think it had something like 3.3GB free. Stuck my original 32MB card in and it worked instantly.
