I could have sworn this game was coming to 360 also and to my knowledge pandemic has only made multiplatform games, Just wondering because this game looks amazing and would be a great exclusive and system seller. All the recent news i keep reading about it make it seem PS3 exclusive

EGM's latest issue says it's PS3 exclusive but yeah. Unless Sony offers a testical, it'll probably go to PC/360 eventually.

I would pay to keep Mercenaries exclusive.. but older games that's already been here and there... I wouldn't pay for those to be exclusive... Sony needs to focus on First party games... take that money that you were paying for exclusives... and develop your own... like God of War... develop that full fledged action RPG Shadow of the Colossus. If Sony does decide to pay for exclusives... get newer games.. like Okami.. Bully, Guitar Hero III.. or 80s edition...

According to wikipeadia (pandemic studios) Mercenaries is without an publisher... " This is when Sony needs to step to them and say HEY!!!!! We'll publish that game for you... don't worry about that xbox version... just take your time do you.. do ps3.." 360 version hasn't been confirmed as of yet.

If that's true Sony would be stupid not to take advantage. Mercenaries 2 will be one of the more wanted games when it comes out.

the way I see it, with such high developing costs, there won't be anymore "forever exclusives" titles in the next gen, they will all stay exclusive for a couple of years, then go multiplatform. Just like oblivion, ninja garden, RE4, FFXI, GTA vice, etc, this will be the trend of next gen.

So 1st party games will be the key in the next gen, along with niche games on Wii, PC games on box, and jrpgs on PS3.

I agree. Exclusivity is subjective, and we've seen that this generation will not have the same pattern as previous generations. What Sony needs to do is shore up its first party titles and throw money at developing those to show off what the PS3 can do. I'm very impressed with Gran Turismo's demo, so I know we've not seen anything yet from either the PS3 or 360 (and that is always a good thing...)

Throwing some weight behind some games like an Ico sequel, or as you mentioned a good "Shadow of the Colossus" -esque title would be wonderful and go a long way to cementing support from third parties who are in it to sell games. :)

I'm a bit biased towards SRPGs and traditional RPGs... but anything that helps the brand is welcome. :)

Thats also a really good point instead of buying time exclusives to invest heavenly into first party games. They have shown with the psp and ps2 how amazing they are, (never had a ps1 so can't comment on that, was an N64 guy)

Everyone looking for that next Gears of War/Contra game of the next gen era.. mercenaries 2 can really make or break the series as a whole.. mercs 2 good - then we see mercs 3, 4; if bad, horrible... probably won't see anymore. Exclusive or not, I'm still excited about mercs 2.

With the cost of developing on the PS3 being so high I see very few games because PS3 exclusives for long.
It is for now, somehow I doubt it's going to stay that way though.
qft

Also I don't think this is a system seller that will get people to buy a ps3 in droves. Yes it would help ps3, but imo it isn't something that will really sway a customer looking at both systems.

It's multiplatform - PS3 / 360. The lead platform is the 360.

It would cost a boatload of cash for this to be PS3 exclusive, even timed. The installed base of the 360 vs PS3 is just not favoring Sony this generation. It would be a real bad move to spend money on that too, cause it would be band-aid. Sony needs 1st party games....their own IP that sells consoles. They need a Halo.

They have relied way too much on 3rd party's to sell their consoles - Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, DMC, Metal Gear, etc - and are probably going to pay for that now that they lost their hegemony of the market. Developers gotta go where the money is and it isn't on the PS3. It might be too late to right this ship.

Sony is in a shitty position right now. It's difficult for companies to lock down exclusives, and outside of Gran Turismo, I can't think of a single first-party app that's possibly going to be a system seller. They need a handful of new, triple-A properties that they can potentially develop into full-fledged series.

It's not even close to "too late." As unimpressed as I am with the PS3 right now, I'm really getting sick of everyone all but writing them off. They have plenty of time to get their shit together, and don't be surprised if they do. It won't take long for them to realize (if they haven't already) that they can't win this round by simply showing up, and then hopefully we can expect some excellent games.
