Metal Gear Next is an iphone game

mgs4 expansion would be nice. with some more actual stealth gameplay this time. but it looks like they're just doing an iphone/touch game for now.
Metal Acid would be nice on iphone... really nice.
All they have to do is change the title to "Metal Gear Acid"...

Seriously, how else could it work as a game?

I am only interested in the reviews of this development. It would be an understatement to say I am disappointed that they would spend time on a game for a mobile phone. My disappointment aside, this game will undoubtedly sell well.

WTF is it with iphone/touch games? After playing games on both a 3G iphone and on a touch, the touch screen sucks for games. No physical buttons = sucks.

It's not just Metal Gear Solid Touch that Konami is bringing to the iPhone:

Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today announced that the company will be releasing mobile games for the iPhone and iPod touch based on four of its top-selling franchises in North America. Metal Gear Solid Touch, Silent Hill: The Escape, DanceDanceRevolution S Lite and Frogger will all be specifically designed to take full advantage of the iPhone's unique touch screen capabilities.

"Konami Mobile offers gamers nothing but the best by developing high quality, big-name titles with unparalleled mobile entertainment experiences," said Anthony Borquez, Vice President of Konami Mobile and Online. "We are extremely excited to be working with Apple to introduce North American consumers with popular franchises that are compatible with the iPhone and iPod's advanced technologies."

All four of the top-selling Konami titles have been re-designed to take full advantage of the iPhone's capabilities, including the innovative Multi-Touch™ interface and accelerometer. For more information, please visit www.konamimobile.com.

They have a lot of free lite versions available. They're basically demos.

Odd choice. Like others, I'm not sure why they didn't opt for a MGA-style game. Some really livid people on other forums, though. But that's par for the course when it comes to MGS4 announcements.
Well, my interest in whatever this is is basically nonexistent.
I feel the same way as of now...
No. I think Kojima

I for one, am excited. BiA, Heroes of Sparta, etc. have shown that the iPhone is a very capable gaming console, so I have high expectations for this.

Why not? They have the right to make whatever they want for it. No one says anything about touchscreen-only games like Phantom Hourglass. Maybe this would have been a DS game if only the graphical capability was better.

Also, do you realize how many more people carry an ipod with them every day over the amount of people who even own a portable game system, must less carry it everywhere?

Yeah, but who would want an iphone MG game when that time and money could have gone towards a real entry in the series?

Or ZOE3...

I'm pretty sure the amount of time and money that it took to make this is nowhere near what it took to make MGS4.

As long as this ends up not being a part of the Solid universe (even though it's been confirmed by Konami), I won't care. If it is a real Solid game, then fuck.

Isn't any app/game that's iphone compatible also ipod touch compatible? If that's the case, then it's no big deal whatsoever. I can understand not wanting the very large monthly fee that comes with having an iphone, but most people have ipods anyway.

I'm saying spending a single minute of development time on it is a complete waste. It doesn't matter how long the project takes - it's a waste.

Why? Maybe it's a good game. If you're going to disregard it 100%, why even talk about it? Lots of people will play it, and you can just miss out since you're so intent on being glum about it.

I'm sure it will be bad.
Well now you're just being purposely stubborn.
No, he's probably right. I could barely tolerate Portable Ops on the PSP. And I can't see how touchscreen controls will make it any better unless it's on rails or some shit.

Seriously. I love Metal Gear Solid, but putting the MGS name on a shitty game (like any of the non main-line MGS games except for maybe the GBC game) doesn't make it passable. Portable Ops played like absolute dog shit, so I'm not going to line up to play KojiPro's latest failure.

I wouldn't care if it's heavily simplified, card based, or on rails, as long as it's fun and has a decent chunk of canon story.

Problem is, that's exactly what prior games haven't been, and there's no indication that any degree of effort went into this latest one.

I honestly can't imagine how this game will work on the iPhone. One of the 1up reviewers said it looked like Lethal Enforcers with a Metal Gear skin. From the screenshots so far, I have a hard time disagreeing.

Actually, I'll be nice and say it looks like Link's Crossbow Training. Still too shallow to be an MGS game though.

I'm wondering how the fuck the Silent Hill game in that article could be anything full on Silent Hill to play being touchscreen only.
Shit I can understand a Silent Hill game with a smattering of touch screen support but with buttons still there. However touchscreen only I'm trying to picture out any sticky situation with monsters and you have to switch guns quickly. What about running into them and Konami gets the bright idea to have an auto detection mode where, when you have a gun equipped, it goes into automatic fight mode. How easy is it going to be for you to get away and run?
edit: Truthfully Konami's whole effort here smacks of trying to port the success of the cellphone market over in Japan to here. -_-

People actually want the iPhone game to have a story that's canon? I figured Metal Gear fans would want something that's just simple and fun, and unrelated to the story.

No, We would like it to play like a Metal Gear game... I could care less if it's related to the story or not.
