While the existence of Metal Gear Solid 4 was confirmed last year in a conference call a recent press event in Germany provided a few new details. The new team of people working on the game has been announced with Hideo Kojima now taking on a less hands-on role. This new game will be a departure from the series as the first three games comprised a trilogy and this will be a new beginning on a next-generation console.

One of the new themes of MGS4 is "No Place to Hide!" and with no more details beyond that it's up to speculation as to what that exactly means. This could mean that some guaranteed safe spots, such as the logs or crawlspaces in MGS3 will be absent the next time around. It could also mean that the game will feature a different camera system with a third-person camera that fans have been asking for. We will have to wait for further details.

The other theme of the event was "No Place for Hideo!" with Kojima now taking on the Executive Producer role. There is a new producer, Ken-ichiro Imaizumi, and the director is now Alan Smithee. If you're not familiar with Alan Smithee, we suggest taking a peek at his huge body of work as an imaginary person that people in the movie business use when they don't want to be associated with a movie they feel will be an utter disaster. This is an obvious joke from Kojima and surely there will be an announcement later on as to who the director will really be if there is to be one at all.

Despite the report from the earlier conference call that work had already started on the project, the team announced that the real work will officially start this Sunday. There was no announcement as to any possible release date.

I wish Konami would abandon the MGS series for a year and fully translate and port Snatcher and Policenauts.. but we know that won't happen

At least he isn't gone for good. I have faith that the team will be almost as good without him. I can't believe they are already giving us hints to the next game. This is going to drive me insane. I waited for what seemed like forever to play MGS3.

Thanks for the info though.

I thought that Kojima wanted to leave it being a trilogy, so to speak, being that Snake Eater would be the last one. Maybe I was mistaken. Anyhow, I don't know if it would be any good without Hideo. Really, don't think so.

I hope they drop the "Solid" for the next name since MGS, as stated was supposed to be only a trilogy, and should end with MGS3. Also, "no place to hide" sounds like they may make it more action-based.

I think it may be better without him. He lead the way with the stealth aspect, but IMO detracted some in the 2nd and 3rd one with the drawn out dialogue etc. The next one may go back to its roots and be really good.

Alan Smithee - Could possibly still be Kojima seeing as he dosent want to be known as having a hands on role. being producer still gives him a lot of control over the project even if he werent the director.

No place to hide - Probably means a smarter enemy. Better AI is likely, no more hiding 15 feet from an enemy directly facing you maybe. Maybe the stealth suit will become a regular tool (but that might make it too close to Sega's Spy Fiction).

The changes I suspect will go further of course with a new trillogy I'd suspect another attempt at a new protagonist/hero, maybe a girl like meryl or a mecha ninja. I doubt we'll see a return of Raiden.

If the other 3 was a trilogy, they should drop the Solid from the name. Something different would be nice too.

So no more guards being unable to find me under trucks huh? Sweet. MGS3 was great. One of the last few games I can remember that I actually was compelled to play through.
Hopefully it is a sequel to SOL or a remake of the first two games in one nifty package.
i would definately like to see a direct sequel to SOL, maybe starting direcltly after it

I can safely say we shall not see the return of raiden. If we do, i'm sure there will be some dramatic changes to his character and he will not be playable. I played and beaten MGA and let me say this without spoiling too much, you can have the main character look like Snake, but he might not be as we know him.

Oh and i'm sure hte no place to hide means more action oriented gameplay. When I first heard the tagline, that is what popped into my mind immeadiately just like what other CAGs have said/

Kojima said originally the concept for MG (8bit to today) was simply "Hide and seek." The game is all about staying hidden or hiding from your enemies untill they loose interest in looking for you.

Adding a story to it was just something to keep you intersted between hiding stages. Hide, Beat a boss find a new area, get a story from the codec and then hide somemore.

So now there's no place you can stay hidden atleast not permanatly I'd think or the game would be Rush 'n Attack. Maybe the next game will be "Metal Gear Exposed" and feature a nudist Snake.

Rated M for Mature.

Well it could be called Metal gear Basic. We already have acid, time to have bases. Plus the whole game's theme could be about "getting back to basics" the no where to hide theme seems to fit this category quite well.
Maybe MGS4 will have monster collecting and trading. Might as well after a MGS card game.
I've played and beaten Acid. It's not as bad as you think, however, it's not nearly as Solid (pun intended) as other MG games.

Metal Gear Argon.

Hel we could create a bunch more, someone get out the periodic table and be set untill we're all 98 years old.
