Metal Gear Solid on EBgames.com

Hope this is the right forum, seemed best since I'm asking about a shopping question. I'm looking to pick up the Metal Gear Solid series, and my question is about the first one. I think it's onlyout for ps1 correct? Also EBgames.com has two listings for it, but as far as I can tell they're the same game, if anyone could verify before I order this afternoon I would appreciate it. The links to both listings are below.
One looks like the VR Missions... but that's just me
No there's a seperate listing for VR missions, so I think Scorch is right about GH and nonGH versions.

One of the best ever, if they remade it with ps2 graphics it will be the best overall game ever, addicting shit man , i had this game i lend it to a friend he left to another country and now i should buy it again , i don't remember 2 well but i had the disc with the white cover and i believe the vr missions were included, i agree with scorch one of them is GH.

FYI:

They did remake it...on Gamecube...Metal Gear Solid : Twin Snakes. Looks awesome, but it is pretty much the same gameplay-wise.

They did remake it with next gen graphics, MGS twin snakes for GC

I just woke up 5 minutes ago, so my brain is scrambled a little. But I believe Twin Snakes on the Gamecube is the official "remake" of Metal Gear Solid, yes? Supposed to be slightly better I think but I guess it's all about preference.

the first game you listed is a photo of the GH-manual, the 2nd one is a photo is of the case of a non-gh copy.

its hit or miss which one you'll get, or even if youll get a case/manual, just order the $4 one and hope.

I think its just a mix up and they listed the product twice considering eb never guarantees that you get the instructions or the manuals I really doubt they'd diffrentiate between GH and non GH

Sometimes EB lists games twice when it comes to pre-owned games. Usually one is listed as just the game, and the other is prefixed with "PO".

The Twin Snakes does look better than MGS for PS1 (obviously), but it is easier b/c of the availability of first person aiming at any time. I also liked the more subdued cutscenes of the PS1 version vs. the over-the-top scenes from TTS.

Twin Snakes was a collaborative effort between Nintendo, Silicon Knights, and Konami...so, yeah, official remake.

I've played both, and let me tell you, Twin Snakes is more than just "slightly" better than the original (my opinion, as is most of what follows). The PSX version simply pales in comparison. They added all of the superior gameplay elements of MGS2, including first-person firing, hanging, having to hide bodies, etc, and they redid the music, re-recorded the voices, and, of course, redid the graphics, so it looks pretty much just as good as MGS2. It's much more immersive.

But the thing that really blew me away was the cutscenes. They are, beyond any doubt (in my opinion), the best real-time 3D cutscenes of any current-generation game. They brought in Ryuhei Kitamura, the director of Versus, to do all-new cutscenes, and my god, does it ever show. The choreography, the motion, the detail, the camerawork...it's really amazing.

Whether you've played the original or not, you really ought to try Twin Snakes...it's amazing, and the game MGS was always supposed to be, in my opinion.

That's a pretty good review. Maybe I will pick up Twin Snakes then.

Didn't know it was remade on the Cube, I'll go with that version for the graphics and the guaranteed booklet and case.

I forgot to mention that Twin Snakes is a Player's Choice title now, so you can get it for $20. :) At that price, it's a must have.

I played these back to back when Twin Snakes released, and found the re-recorded and slightly altered dialouge unusual. Couple that with the FPS aiming system and crazy cut scenes and it makes Twin Snakes a different beast.
For best results, play both.

How can you take out the "Muktuk" line?! :???:

I am nearly halfway through the PC version of MGS and still fail to realize how people think that TTS is so much easier. Aside from the part where you venture up the staircase after the alarm goes off, I have yet to have any difficulty with the game at all, and bosses like Ocelot were a heck of a lot easier

i always had the worst time during the sniper fight on the 2nd disc =o\

I have both of these game auction as a combo at ebay. Start at 9.99 no bid. You still got time to win it. both are non-gh by the way.

Not necessarily easier, but more convienient is perhaps a better way to put it. Being able to shoot in first person makes taking enemies down from long distances and odd angles a lot easier. Having lockers to hide in is very conveinient. Taking out camera in first-person is a breeze. And being able to do first person hold-ups makes silently taking enemies down a lot easier.

In other ways, of course, TTS is more difficult. Having to worry about enemy bodies is a concern that you didn't have in the original, in which they just disappear. Also, the enemy searching patterns are far more complex and persistant than in the original version. They'll really come after you, sometimes. The AI is much better, overall.

So, there are trade offs both ways. The new gameplay systems taken from MGS2 make things much more conveinient and gives you many new ways to tackle different situations, but given that your enemies are smarter this time around, it all about balences out.
