Metal Gear Solid preview video is awesome

I heard it was going to be along the lines of Resident Evil - more than a remake. New moves, new areas, new AI, etc...
its worth it

more than worth it
'

Now that I watched it, I can definitely concur with you. I think I'm gonna hold of on buying more games so I can afford a GC.

....I loved how this game played on the ps1...i just couldnt get past the blocky, jumpy graphics. After watching that...wow. Looks incredible

What's sad is that Nintendo had to beg Konami for this project. Konami used the excuse that none of their teams had any experience with the Gamecube hardware, so the burden of development fell on Nintendo. A win-win situation for Konami.

...Actually Kojima WANTED to do something with the big N, and well, this was about the only thing contractually they could do without losing other "perks" from sony

What awful games. Back in the NES days, the worst thing we could say about a game was that it was as bad as Metal Gear., that was our bar for suckiness.

I finally got around to watching this video today and boy am I disgusted. I'm not sure if I am the only one who feels this way but this "update" is going to turn one of the greatest PS1 titles into a heaping pile of shit! At first I thought this was going to be a simple "graphical" enhancement which I am all for. But after watching the video...

Why is Konami allowing Silicon Knights to add everything we hated about MGS2 into MGS? One of the biggest issues people had with MGS2 was the over abundance of long, drawn out dialog sequences. MGS1 had a few but most held keys to completing the game and actually bonded the player to the characters in the game. None of the additional dialog in the trailer needs to be in the remake. What will that really add to the gameplay experience? Nothing.

Speaking of drawn out sequences, what is up with the Matrix style cut scenes? This game stands out in a crowd well enough on its own. It doesn't need the gimicky Matrix slowdown. That no longer works! (See Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions if you need an example.)

Is it really necessary to show Meryl's panties in the famous "Butt" scene? We got the point the first time while she had her pants on.

Who's brilliant idea was it to add those faces to the pictures in (i believe it to be) the Darpa Chief's office? Those animated faces (probably the programmers) look totally out of place during Psycho Mantis' power demonstration. The pictures simply don't belong there.

I really only managed to watch 15 minutes of the video. I became so enraged that I decided to actually do some work to calm me down. I continued to listen to the remaining dialog and also noticed that some of the voices in the added scenes didn't quite match either. *Sigh* It's really scary when people start screwing with masterpieces. It's not going to work for George Lucas and it certainly isn't going to work here.

Sorry for the long rant...

P.S. Contrary to what Firebrand stated, Silicon Knights (not Nintendo) is developing this conversion. If you didn't already know, they developed the first Legacy of Cain.

I thought the trailer was great, don't like the direction the remake is headed? Don't get it, simple enough. I'm sure there are going to be way more people satisfied and happy that the game is actually coming out than not.

Btw, Silicon Knights also developed Eternal Darkness for the GCN. Silicon Knights are a subsidiary of Nintendo.

before i start...i am looking forward to this game very much. i never played the ps1 version...i havent seen the twin snakes preview (mainly because i dont want to spoil anything) and i dont own and xbox or ps2 but i have played sons of liberty and i must say that it is pretty obvous that you were disappointed with this game. long drawn out cut scenes?????? did this really kill the game for you? i am sure that there are a certain few of you that feel this way. i bet you disliked the graphical enhancments also. what about the other great elements of sons of liberty? first person view...putting dead soldiers in lockers...i bet you disliked that also.
now i havent seen the "matrix style" cut scenes but again it seems that you havent not enjoyed the marix sequels so you continue to use your what you didnt like from the past to make bogus excuses about what you dislike in this game. i am sure that the matrix films influenced these certain scenes and since you dont like the matrix then you dont like this.
your last comment leads me to believe that you are a girl or homosexul. how could you dislike seeing a womans panties? is this woman fat? if this is the case than forgive me. i am not a pig but i am never dissapointed when i see panties!!!!!!!!

i believe that you are in a huge minority with these comments and this game and future metal gears wont be for you because mgs3 will also contain these things you dislike. hold on to your ps1 metal gear tight bcause you will never see something like that again...i hope

i accept this updated msg with its long drawn out cut scenes, horrible elements from mgs2 and womens panties

Meryl wore panties in the PS1 version too. You just had to run into the bathroom in under 3 seconds. It was beautiful.

This is where your response should have ended. You have absolutle no basis to respond to someone else's opinion if you don't FULLY understand where their point of view is coming from.

At first I enjoyed them but then they got out of hand with the LA LE LI LO LU and all the nonsensical talk from the colonel. Yes I know that was an underlying part of the plot but still. They could have been a lot less detailed there.

i bet you disliked the graphical enhancments also. what about the other great elements of sons of liberty? first person view...putting dead soldiers in lockers...i bet you disliked that also.

Actually, I did like all of that. Very nice additions but at the end of the day that's all they were. Ask yourself, just how many dead soldiers did you put in lockers (excluding the one's required by gameplay)? If you found yourself doing this all the time then you really missed the point of the game. It's called stealth.

You are absolutely right. I did not like the sequels. And if you did, then YOU are in the minority, plain and simple.

your last comment leads me to believe that you are a girl or homosexul. how could you dislike seeing a womans panties? is this woman fat? if this is the case than forgive me. i am not a pig but i am never dissapointed when i see panties!!!!!!!!

I am neither a girl or homosexual. I like women in panties just as much as the next man. I just don't see what it adds to the game. However, as VIP pointed out in his post, this was in the original game. I was not aware of this. I have no problems with original content even though it adds very little to the game experience. Unless you are a 13 year old boy discovering his boner for the first time...

i believe that you are in a huge minority with these comments and this game and future metal gears wont be for you because mgs3 will also contain these things you dislike.

I refer to my first comment, if you didn't play the first MGS then you have no business finding flaws in opinions you don't fully understand. As for MGS3, I am prepared for a HUGE difference. Hideo Kojima has already said that the next version is going to be very different. MGS2 was not sold that way. All of the interviews, previews, and trailers led gamers (at least the millions who played the original) to believe that we were getting more of what we came to expect. How many of you played the MGS2 demo with Snake on the ship? Hell, how many of you bought Zone of Enders just for that damned demo?

hold on to your ps1 metal gear tight bcause you will never see something like that again...i hope

I will. Still have it. It's a treasured piece in my collection as it should be for any self-respecting gamer. I suggest you go educate yourself. Play Metal Gear Solid. Not that playing the game after the fact is going to enlighten you in any way. Clearly, you chose to take the blue pill.

just because you could not grasp the aspect of stealth means that the game sucked? I got it when I was six and never thought it was all that great because I knew nothing of stealth games at 6 but it was definately fun

I will tell you if Pandora Tomorrow is any good because Friday I am going to try and make it up to raleigh and go to Red Storm and test the game. I would have gone monday but the roads were really icy and most businesses were closed today and yesterday

so i didnt play the ps1 version...so what? i can have an opinion if i want. from what i ve read this game will only mirror the ps1 version in the story line, aside from that the game will be totally different, with its graphical improvments and different control abilities. it will not be like playing the ps1 version. and your sitting there dogging a game that you havent even played. "You have absolutle no basis to respond " to a game that you havent even played!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! much less compare it to a dated game.
i highly doubt that mgs3 will be so different than part 2. mgs2 has a style its own and they wont stray far from it. im sure youll be back here after mgs3 talking the same shit.
i dont need to play a game to understand your opinion. i know exactly where your coming from because i felt the same way about the resident evil upgrade. i can never go back and play ps1 version.

ps what most people didnt like about the matrix sequels was the story line. not the style and action. in this aspect the sequels were masterpieces. you are in the minority not i.

Well I personally loved the originalon the NES and bought a PS1 for the sole reason of Metal Gear....

I cannot wait to get this game.

I'm sorta sick of '"rebirths" on newer consoles. Was the original MGS so poor that it was in dire need of repair?

I'm skeptical, as anyone should be on "improved" remakes, but I'll give it a shot down the line.

This is the first MGS where I'll PLAY just to see the CUTSCENES. Damn, than Ninja pulls off some bad-ass moves. Snake's not half-bad, either.

I too am looking forward to this game and I played the crap out of the original back in '98 or whenever it was released... I hope I can get it for $35 or less...

there were too much slow motion scenes. they should put a little bit more humor in some scenes. i love the little nintendo product cameos. hope it sells well, i'm gonna pick it up
