Metal Gear Solid - The Essential Collection (PS2) $19.99 at Amazon

That's funny, i bought it a week and a half ago. No price correction. Good times!!! But the games are a steal at 19.99.

Would love this but sadly sony decided not to put BC in all the models or BC software.. which was a bitch move

I already have MGS2 and 3 but I think i'll get this since the version of MGS3 included is the Subsistence version with the improved camera.

camera makes a huge difference, I found snake eater to be near unplayable at first. subsistence is the version to play. amazing game.

Yeah I hate it too. You DO realize though that they just patented something that might allow BC now, right? If so, I'd be SO happy.

Picked up this and Harry Potter and the OOTP on DVD. Needed something for free shipping and haven't seen it yet. And I already have the first four movies on DVD, so now I'll have them all.

I actually jumped on the set this morning and didn't realize it was a deal. I have MGS4 sitting on my shelf unplayed and now I'll have these. Oh where to start.

Even at the original $30 that was a steal. Now it's a crime not to get it unless you really hate MGS for some reason.

start with MGS :)

Yeah.. Awesome.. Only problem is they didn't include the Subsistence Disc 2!! Bastards... I think it was called "Persistence" .. I got that set used for 14.99 on sale. Then I found Subsistence for 5.00 at my local Pawnshop and found ANOTHER copy for 5.00, 2days later. So I was super happy! :) I also got the Substance Artwork and Manual for free since they couldn't find the disc, so I have all the alternate versions of the games except Limited Editon of Subsistence.

I shall pick this up when/if they release the backwards compatibility software...
Just please don't make us pay for it Sony...

I remember seeing a MGS 3-pack at Walmart in a clearance bin.

Any idea how the walmart 3-pack compares to this one?

(Please forgive if it's a stupid question - haven't checked out MGS games before).

TIA.

Pretty sure it should be the same. There are only four MGS games out there, and bundling 1-3 is the only choice that makes sense (MGS4 is the only one not for PS2).

I may get this for the case cover and MGS 3 Subsistence. I already have the essential versions of part 1 and 2. If I order, anyone want to buy parts 1 and 2?

thanks i might have to jupm on this.. i have MGS ps1 copy, and mgs4, and been meaning to get all of them, i didnt finished mgs3 when i had it. I have a ps2 but dont wanna play it on a old tv.. and my ps3 is a 40gb no bc.. I hope they do bring back BC on that thing.
Good deal. But it reminds me how much I wish Twin Snakes had been released on PS2.
Yeah, me too. Twin Snakes was pretty fawesome. I still have it for GameCube... but this is just a great deal, MGS is one of my favorite series, I beat MGS multiple times, MGS2 twice, and amazingly haven't had a chance to play 3 or 4...

I have a 60GB PS3 so the compatibility issues are non-existent, but I am just so broke that I really shouldn't be buying anything for a while. That, and the ECA discount codes still aren't working... I'm so confused about what to do.

Is this a permanent price drop or a temporary one that will expire when Amazon stock runs out? Any way to tell?

Indeed, but from what I remember, Twin Snakes was developed by Silicon Knights which is owned by Nintendo. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but if that's the case, I doubt we'll see it being ported anytime soon.

I have a PS2 but would need to buy a PS1 memory card to save MGS1. Probable will hold off on getting this until I get a PS3. Not a big deal because I probable wouldn't touch the games until I bought MGS4 and a PS3.

Silicon Knights wasn't outright owned by Nintendo, and they certainly aren't now. There was probably some time-limited exclusivity agreement with Konami that may or may not have expired, though. At any rate I don't think SK has any claim to the game, they were basically contracted to work on the port.

Silicon Knights is a former 2nd party developer for Nintendo, which means they weren't owned by Nintendo and were only under contract to develop titles exclusively for Nintendo's systems... However, they ended their contract with Nintendo in 2004 and I believe they then teamed up with Microsoft for a Too Human trilogy of games to be released on Xbox 360.
So who knows what the future holds...

A-fucking-mazing. Bought it. I was gonna buy it anyways. And since I'm a sucker for free shipping, I bought a copy of the book "The Necromonicon" as well. It was 8 bucks. Its this evil Satanic horror book weird thing thats notourious for making people go mad that read it. Oh yeah, I went there. ;)

Is MGS1 fully compatible with the PS2 now? I read on Wikipedia that there's issues mostly with the ending.

I am really confused. I thought MGS 2 was sons of liberty and 3 was snake eater. What's substance and subsistance?

Its updated versions of the two. Features over 350 VR Missions, skateboarding, better camera, bonus everything. Get them, now.

Yeah, I may just need to jump down off the fence, been sitting on it since this set was released. My only problem is I have no idea when I'll find time to play them.

So this set doesn't have MGS3 Subsistence disk# 2? As I remember, that second disc had a bunch of the original Metal Gear games, so that's kind of a bummer. Was there anything else on disc 2 that will be missed much?

Yes, pretty much all bonus content is missing from MGS3. You get the much improved camera for the main game, and maybe some VR missions?

In case no one saw, you can get 50% off a game magazine subscription when you purchase the mgs collection (I think any game, b/c vesperia showed the same offer). I think you can use that as a filler to get the free super-saver shipping. Also, I called ECA and they said that the codes won't be online until this evening or tomorrow.
