Meteos 'not for resale' on cartridge?

hi,
I picked up a used Meteos at gamestop the other day. It didn't come with box or instructions but somebody took a black magic marker & tried to erase some text that says 'not for resale'. There is a sticker on the back of the cartridge that basically says the same thing.
I am assuming this is a promo cartridge that nintendo gave to gamestop?
Does anybody know if there are any differences between this cartridge and the released version of Meteos? Are they exactly the same?
Any chance I can ebay this thing and get a premium price? :) ( i can hope right? )

yeah, it's a card that was given to stores for kiosk demos.

this particular demo is actually not different from the regular version at all. so if you're just after the game, this copy is just as good as any other.

as for going to ebay... it's hit or miss. sometimes, a demo can sell for a decent amount, other times they don't. i've seen meteos go for anywhere between $60 and $15, so it's all luck. they used to go for a lot more, but collectors have realized that it's just the full version (other demos too) and now they tend to go for less. i'd say your can get $20, but definitely not 'a premium' or anything.

this seems to be one of the more common demos, too.
 
Congratulations, you've discovered an ultra-rare Meteos gamepiece. These cartridges were given away at Japanese press conferences for a chance to win an actual piece of a meteor. I read that most of the pieces were already turned in for prizes, but some still lingered around the world. You are very lucky to have found one.
I think Bandai Namco is still honoring gamepieces, so you should mail yours in to see if it contains the winning code.
A couple months ago, I saw a few go on ebay for $200-$250, so you could also go that route. In any case, congratulations once again! Good luck!
 
Gamestop around here always black markers out the not for resale when they sell the demo carts. Funny thing is, if they didn't do that those would be some games I would actually buy from them.

I 100% agree with you. The local Gamecrazy does this too. Last time I was there, they had 2 GBA carts labeled NFR, but as usual it was marked through. I would have picked them both up on the spot had it not been "defaced"
 
You might be able to rub the marker off, the labels on most games are glossy so you should be able to use a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a q-tip to remove the marker without damaging the label.
 
my link to the past GBA cart has an NFR stamp on it, but of course it was sharpied out.

i bought it from gamestop at full price.
