Metroid Prime Hunters Free W/ DS coming soon

Wow. I can't believe how much weight people are giving to some half paragraph "preview" in EGM. That's not a review, it's barely a preview. They don't like the control? That's the ONLY good thing about the Hunters Demo. I'm worried more about the exploration and single player aspects of the game.. but they don't mention any of that. Forget about some EGM editor's impressions of a half finished game that he probably played for 2 minutes on a trade show floor.

There were plenty of bad things written about Metroid Prime before it came out, and they were all amazingly wrong. That game is a classic imo.

I played the demo on MPDS and all it showed me was the DS is a rushed POS system that was TERRIBLE designed. The controlers were not the problem with the game. The DS buttons and D-Pad are just so small and crambed in.

Controls are good if you know how to use you hands like Nintendo reccomends= Left hand on d-pad/L button, right hand with sylus with pinky finger under the game system. Feels like a glove when played this way. Makes the game an easy to play.

supposedly there's about 4 different characters you can play as that all play differently, as well as multiplayer with only 1 game pack, which is pretty sweet. Note: no online play! confirmed already at e3! no online!!!! reason for this is for the single player to be #1...

Controls are way better than analog sticks for FPS IMO. I just played again with the stylus, it works better than the thumbstrap thingie.

Thanks for the tip with the pinky, it felt a lot more stabilized that way.

Anything that isn't a keyboard/mouse is a compomise for an FPS. The stylus is almost as good as a mouse.

I wish I could play Halo 2 with a stylus - maybe I wouldn't suck so bad at it. Still not great with the dual analog setup.

I wish there was a stylus sensitivity setting, though. It would be nice to turn up the sensitivity, so I wouldn't have to occasionally pick up the stylus. I run my mouse at maximum sensitivity, and on kinda high settings for playing FPS games.
I find the amount of credibility you give EGM amusing.
Why? They're still one of the top magazines around, though they've gone downhill a little, so them dogging on a game every other mag seems to praise doesn't mean their opinion isn't valid. I only mention them because they agree with me and have been mentioned before in this thread.

The controls aren't the issue. While I prefer analog sticks (Goldeneye 64 being my first FPS), the controls in Hunters are just dandy.

Like I said, it's the fact that this game is a stereotypical death-match style FPS instead of the classic exploration Metroid is known for that makes the game look crappy.

I agree with you that the buttons and D-Pad are way too small. That's really my only problem with the system.

However, I didn't mind the controls on the demo. I use the buttons and the D Pad and the only problem I have is that your forced to play inverted. I don't play my first person shooters with inverted controls, which messes me up sometimes.

A good deal. This should help DS keep pace (or ahead of) with the PSP. I got in on the Mario 64 DS bundle, which I like more then Metroid (or any FPS games).

This could be online. In the latest Nintendo Power (not that it's a good source), they list Animal Crossing, Mario Kart and "Many more titles under development" in the Nintendo column for DS Wi-fi games... then again, Nintendogs seems like a game that should be online but so far, is not.

EDIT: Metroid is apparently not online according to Nintendo.

I'm so pissed I bought my DS at launch. I should have remembered the golden rule, never buy a console at launch. I'm going to try and remember that when the Revolution hits, but it's probably not going to work. :)

Yes, I always follow the "golden rule" now. I think buying the PS2 at launch taught me not to buy consoles early... I was forced to buy some mega rip-off $500 bundle at EB just to secure my PS2.

Not to mention there's a higher risk of defects with the first few batches of systems... I waited 6-months for the DS and got the free Mario 64 DS so I'm quite pleased with waiting.

-Meh

I'll get the $120 DS and the new Castlevania game with it when it comes out. I like my metroid 2D the way the miyamoto intended.
