I really want to get into this game, I liked Metroid Prime a lot, but after about 10 minutes of playing, my left hand gets so cramped it is very uncomfortable. I have an old DS if that makes a difference.

Has everyone else had this problem or are my meat hooks just not suited for this game? Any tips to avoid carpal tunnel and still play the game?

I could not play it very well either. Could not hold onto the DS comfortably and control the game at the same time. I quit about 2 hours in because of that. Seemed fun, just made my hand go numb before playing very long. It's my left hand as well.

I have no problems with holding the DS, but I know there have been a number of people that found it uncomfortable to hold the DS or DSlite while playing Hunters.

hand cramps + boring gameplay = crap

though I have to say the multiplayer was pretty fun online and local wifi, but the single player r=(-_-)

is this the game that originally came as a demo with the first waive of ds's?

did this finally come out.. i kinda liked it back then

What button setup do you use? I forgot what the mode was called but I use left handed both buttons (no stylus). If you use a stylus then yes the game is an absolute pain in the ass. But just using the dual setup it's exactly like playing any DS game, in which case if it hurts your hands then you might need one of those DS skins that makes the system more ergonomic.

I didn't find it too bad when using the little thumb cursor thing as a control b/c you can hold it up with two hands, if you use the stylus it gets heavy after a while. It'd be like playing any other ds game imho though. The ability to aim w/ the touch screen is great though over the standard button aiming.

EDIT: Yup, March 20, 2006.

It hurt my hand to use the stylus as well.

If it's any consolation, you aren't missing anything IMO. The single player was awful--boring level design and repetitive bosses. The multiplayer was little better as it was just very generic and uninspired. There are numerous better online FPSs you can play on the 360 or PC.

Pretty much a turd of a game IMO and I'm a HUGE Metroid fan--Super Metroid is still my all time favorite game.

I was going to suggest this method . I liked it alot better , give it a try if you still have/use your strap .

I love this game.
Yea, the controls using both stylus and buttons took some getting use to, I cramped up when I first played too, but after I learned to relax my grip more and got used to using my hands in a different way, I stopped cramping. I found that it is really important to rest the DS on something while you play, like your lap.

The FPS controls are tight and responsive, love fragging on this with my friends, however, Niwifi has run into the problem of people cheating in random games with AR, it's pretty rampant now and it really kills the wifi play.

I got cramps if I played it for too long. What got me more was the pretty boring single player mode. I got lost too much and the objectives were just mundane.

No cramps whatsoever. My fingers got a little tired after long sessions, but you can just rest it on your lap if you need to.

Amen to the game's mediocrity, though.

I bought the game also and didnt like it that much. I did play story mode and I stopped after 20 minutes. I then played online and their was nothing special their either.

The control scheme was pretty cool and I got use to it. But the game just wasnt fun. I returned it the day after dissapointed.

The only way I could play it comfortably is with my feet on the chair and my knees up near my chest, and I'd rest the DS on my leg so my left hand wasn't supporting all the weight, and it also gave more support for using the stylus w/o moving the system around.

Of course, I've been having problems with tendonitis off and on for over a year now, so it might have been worse for me than most.

I am one of the rare few that enjoys the single player in this game, I guess. It sucks that there are only 2 kinds of bosses, but I enjoy the exploring part of the game, and the graphics are great. The only thing that really sucks is that it's impossible to know which planet to go to next to get the 5th-8th artifacts.

My hand cramps up after about an hour. It helps to keep your hands as relaxed as possible, but eventually it will start aching.

You can try the non-stylus controls, but unfortunately the game is much much harder, and you won't stand a chance on-line.
well yeah... if you play offline.
Meh, I thought it was garbage online too.

If I'm going to play an FPS online there's no reason to play this with it's boring levels and weapons, and painful controls when I can just fire up the PC or x-box etc.

I guess it's worthwhile for those that don't have a PC or 360 or want to play at wireless hotspots when traveling etc.

I don't think the game is anywhere near as bad as people here are making it out to be. But in the end it does serve as an example of why FPS games shouldn't be attempted on the DS. If Nintendo can't get it perfect with a Metroid game --regardless of the fact that they aren't known for FPS-- other companies have probably given up before trying.

no way...MPH is huge and is a major technical accomplishment for the system. it's the level design and flow of the game that sucked. Cramping hands are pretty subjective though-- no way to control that in game design.

I wholeheartedly agree that MPH is indeed a major technical accomplishment for the DS. After all, I wouldn't have expected a FPS game to succeed on any level whatsoever! MPH is a good game, but I have to be honest and say that its control still didn't feel perfect to me. At no point did MPH ever feel as natural to me as using a mouse and keyboard. Because of that, I can't shake my apprehension of future FPS games on DS. Of course, I'd be more than happy to be proven completely wrong. Brothers in Arms, I'm looking right at you.

I never even tried the actual game, as I hated the demo that was included with the original DS. IMO the Metroid name has no business being attached to a FPS anyway. I'm a huge Metroid fan, and you could throw the Metroid name on almost anything and I'd buy it(Metroid Prime Pinball comes to mind... though that actually was a good game). But I didn't even consider getting this one when it was released.

well metroid prime 3 corruption for the wii will be a fps iirc

I really love Metroid, so buying this was a no-brain. I didn't know so many dislikd the SP for this game, but I personally really liked it. I only had to switch controls as someone else mentioned.

It should be more of a first person adventure like the first 2 games.

With the bland level design, and multiplayer deathmatch emphasis, Hunters lost a lot of its sense of adventure and was really just a crappy, generic FPS IMO.

I think that's what he was getting at.

I don't have a lot of interest in the single-player adventure mode but I've started to play my daughter the head-to-head battles and that's pretty fun. I had put it down for a few months until she brought it out and said, "Hey, daddy, play me."

Starfox is another one that is kind of weird. It's not a bad game but not a great game. The WiFi / multiplayer game is pretty good but I feel like I'm playing a 3D-combat game from the Atari 2600 (which is basically is). Not bad, just kind of lacking something.
