Been lurking forever and finally have something to contribute. For those of you that were burned by Best Buy's drop in trade-in values and have a Microcenter near you, here's a possible alternative. Microcenter has some trade in values advertised on their website and in the new sales paper. Notice the trade in value for Crysis 2. I've never personally traded there so if anyone has please post your experiences.

http://www.microcenter.com/storefronts/gaming/used.html

YMMV, as some stores do not have trade-in capabilities.
Stores without trade-ins: 'Twin Cities/St. Louis Park, MN', 'Beltway/Rockville, MD' [add more when discovered]

Current trade in values as of 11/29/11 from the CAG community (Thanks fortunado for compiling and editing list)

(11/29/11) - Added some new values today. I overheard someone say that all the games MC buys get shipped off to their buyer and then redistributed among the stores that lack certain titles. At my store they will take one copy per game, per console, per day, per person. So it may be possible to just spread trades of duplicate games out over the course of a few weeks.

(4/1/12) - RAGE Anarchy Edition not being accepted at some stores due to UPC being different from what they allow (even though it is the "better" version). YMMV on this if the employee will override.

To keep the wiki current, try to enter the date you obtained the value.

anyone in St. Louis know if the microcenter in brentwood still takes trades? I did some during the christmas/thanksgiving bonanza, but haven't been back since.
I was just there today, and I really want to know this too D:
You should have asked somebody! The only reason I don't just call and ask is that I don't think I've ever gotten anyone to answer the phone when I've called up there.

I know I never wrecked them with copies of brinks or whatever, so it mostly just seems to be a matter of whether there is another CAG'r in STL that did wreck them with brinks and make them change their policies.

Just traded in a bunch of games three days ago.

Yup, my most recent trade which I posted about a few posts earlier was from the St. Louis store.

The guy there almost denied me my trade because he read the memo of 1 title per customer. I asked him, "But does it say 'per platform?'" and he soon realized he could trade in 1 individual title per platform. That's why I was able to trade my copies of Batman AC & Rage, 1 per platform, and walked away with $100 of merchandise.

There's about 3-4 people in the entire staff that knows how to do trade-ins, but they're still pretty clueless. Just don't be a dick trading in a bunch of the same copies of games, be polite & friendly, and you'll be fine.

+1 to this. Most of the guys that work the game department are VERY cool. Don't be a douche and ruin it for everyone else....like the BRINK GUY.... We could still be trading that in for $28

Microcenter at Brentwood in St Louis, Missouri I can confirm still does trades. 1 game per day per platform though (even if you're trading in different titles).

The deals are great though, I got 30 bucks for Resistance 3 that I got with the Best Buy KZ3, Move, Resistance 3 combo.

Used it to buy a new mouse, the CM Storm Xornet (it's $25 dollars right now). After tax, there was $2.65 leftover and they gave me the cash. I guess if you spend the store credit they give you the change in cash rather than on a card.

Sorry to be dense, but it sounds like a little bit of conflicting info -- You guys are saying that (for example) I can trade a rage ps3, a rage xbox, a BAC ps3, and a BAC xbox in one trip, or is this one of those crazy stores were it's like "one PS3 game and one Xbox game and that is it"?

EDIT: it looks like it's some of both really... hrm... I hate the idea of going in there and getting spiked, but maybe we'll take a spin sometime this week.

Traded today:

Kirby's Epic Yarn $25
Disneyland Adventures $25
Rage (x360) $27

Trade took about 20 minutes from start to finish not including the time it took for me to find someone that knew how to do a trade. Not sure if this just applies to the Springdale store, but they let me cash out buyback balances under $50. I traded in the games for $77, bought a game for 29.99, and cashed out the remainder (around $45).

There's an option that pops up for the cashiers to either select the remaining balance to be given to the customer in cash or be stored as store credit in the customer's account. The corporate stance is to apply the remaining balance as store credit but it's YMMV as always.

Trade in for today:
:360:
The Sims 3 $25
Transformers Dark of the moon $25
Rage $27
Warhammer 40k: Space Marine $28
Gears of War 3 $30

:ps3:
Crysis 2 $25
Batman: Arkaham City $25

They wouldn't let me trade more than 1 PS3 game at once is what I was trying to say.

Rage is definitely going for 27 bucks, so if you buy that and a @ gamer magazine for 11 or so, you can turn around and head to Microcenter and get Mass Effect 3 for $44 pretax. The @gamer mag has a mass effect 2 for 5 dollars coupon as well. So you can get Mass Effect 3 & 2 together for about 50 dollars if you use Microcenter & Best Buy together.

noob question but I was wondering when you trade in and get credit back can you use it on anything else in the store or just in the gaming department?

That's so awkward -- like, I get that they needed to stop the 300 copies of brink guy, but having "only 1 PS3 game per day" is super awkward for legitimate trade in guy that has a PS3 and wants to trade in his games.

You'll get a slip of paper, i usually convert that to an actual GC so it's harder to lose (or wash), but either the slip or the GC can be used on anything. That's how I got my ipad :)

You can still misplace the slip of paper and claim the credit as long as you're in their system with your address that you used at the time of the trade. I lost mine one time, went to buy something and the cashier asked me if I wanted to use my credit (which I had no idea I still had). But yes, definitely convert it to a GC if you remember to do so.

Odd, went at lunch today and tried to trade in Rage. They couldn't find it by name or sku in the system. I watched him type it and it wasn't listed. If anybody trades it in, please let me know how it was found.

I just got back from my local Microcenter having completed the following trades:
:360: Batman Arkham City = $25
:360: Bulletstorm = $17
:360: Crysis 2 = $25
:360: Deus Ex: Human Revolution = $27
:360: Rage = $27
:360: Rayman Origins = $25
:ps3: Portal 2 = $13.50
:ps3: Rage = $25

This was the fastest I've ever traded at Microcenter. There was a sales associate who knew how to do trades in the gaming section, a till was already open, and the trade site was working. All told, I was only in the store about 10 minutes.

Nice, hopefully all will go smoothly tomorrow when I'm able to go. I'll be tossing in BAC PS3, Rage 360/PS3 and Crysis 2 PS3. Over the past couple months, I'll be over $500 putting in maybe about

St. Louis CAGs, I took in a BAC for PS3 and one for XBOX and then a single Rage for PS3 to test the waters and see what they were doing there (i.e., I wanted to see if they'd let me do to of the same name but for different systems and if not I had the rage there so I could do one BAC xbox and a rage for ps3 and still get ME3 for cheap).

Anyway, the guy doing the trade (name starts with a K -- the guy with braids -- I know his name but don't want to say it on a message board for some reason) first asked me if I'd traded in there before and I said that I had a couple months ago and he said he needed to look me up in the system, because we are only allowed to trade in one copy of any game at Microcenter ever and he needed to confirm that I had not traded these in before. He typed around for a bit and then said that he didn't know how to check and see hat games I had traded in before -- I told him that I haven't traded these in before (I know I've never traded BAC there, and probably never traded Rage in) and he did do the trade, but it seems really weird -- compared to what the rest of you guys are hearing.

So, I guess, I'd like to know if this is the guy the rest of you are talking to or did I just get a guy that isn't sure what he's doing?

I did see a sign that said that they can't take anymore brinks and I asked if anyone did that at that Microcenter and he said some guy brought in enough to have 3000 dollars in credit and bought a bunch of ipads. I said something like "don't you think it would make more sense to just tell the guy with 100 copies of brink that you are not going to take them, instead of Microcenter just shutting everyone down like this" and he said that they can't tell people "no" that they have to take the trades and that "only HR can stop people from trading in" -- I'm not really sure what that is supposed to mean.

EDIT: and FWIW all 3 games were $25

LOL What? HR? Human Resources? That's for employees. The security/risk management department, even store management, should be stepping in and stopping that madness.

Yeah, it didn't make any sense. I presume he meant that the people in charge were the only ones that can make "rules" about what trades they can take, but even with that I don't know why some employee would be like "yeah, I guess we can take 100 copies of this game" -- and then other employees are like "omg you have two copies of this game, it's time to start a nationwide manhunt." I'm sure that they have some discretion, and even if they don't why would you take 100 copies of one game in one trade in?

Yeah, this guy was who I had to deal with when I traded in my copies of B:AC and Rage. Maybe he thought you were me? He almost denied my trade for that same reason, because his memo says 1 game per customer, but the language is not specific at all.
Odd, went at lunch today and tried to trade in Rage. They couldn't find it by name or sku in the system. I watched him type it and it wasn't listed. If anybody trades it in, please let me know how it was found.
The same guy just mentioned above also almost denied my trade of Rage because the Microcenter systems only have the vanilla RAGE game in their system, NOT the Anarchy Edition. I told him it didn't make any difference at all, and all the AE had was an extra DLC code so he counted my trade as the vanilla RAGE. So if you had the Anarchy Edition, just remind the associate that it's the same game, just a different UPC/SKU.

No issues today at the Santa Clara store. Guy looked both Crysis 2 (had a different UPC sticker on it) and Rage (Anarchy Ed). TIVs held:

Crysis 2 PS3 - $25
Rage PS3 - $25
Rage 360 - $27

$77 credit for about $15 in real money.:bouncy:

Still not sure what I'm going to buy though.
Damn, checked Slickdeals and saw microcenter Ipad 2 is going for $360. Good for those with credits there still.
Jesus! I thought I was getting a good deal when I used the credits to get my ipad for 450 there!

I know! It used to take 20 brinks to get an Ipad. lol now you only need 16 Rage.

I wish I had gone crazy while they were taking everything. I did it "the hard way" with a bunch of singletons from various blockbusters and only struck once (once at the st. louis microcenter and once at the kansas city microcenter though).

California stores have to let you cash out anything under $10

Just returned from microcenter and can add the following:
:360: Sesame street: once upon a monster = $20
:360: / :ps3: Rage = refused due to corporate memo
:360: / :ps3: Bulletstorm = refused due to corporate memo

oy, killed off Rage and Bulletstorm. Good thing I went yesterday.
Any idea as to whether the Tustin store started to take trades again?
i was there sat or sun and they still have a "no more trade in" sign on the wall. :(

Some CAG is gonna kill this for us so ill just say it now: stop trading in multiples at once and kill it for the rest of us. Quit being so dense and figure out you're better off spreading out trades for the future.

The guy that I traded in to the other day (and this is the guy that said only HR could tell them not to take in trades, so I think this must be taken with a grain of salt, but maybe somebody else can confirm/deny) stated that Microcenter doesn't have anyone to sell the used games they take in to so they are just piling up in back. I asked why they don't just sell them here and he said "because we can't scan the stickers that we put over the UPCs" -- I have no idea what that means, but if Microcenter has no outlet for any of these games, then I have no idea why they are still taking them at all.

I actually was able to trade in a copy of Batman today for $25.

I only attempted one copy of Bulletstorm :)ps3:) and Rage :)360:) today, but the associate told me they weren't taking the title for any platform. Apparently, MC and the entity they use have been in stern discussions about the lack of keeping accurate trade values. The fact that you can buy bulletstorm used at MC for $14.99 and trade it in for $17 might have something to do with it...

I think the trade volume across all stores is just making them more aware that they need to stay on top of updating trade values to match the market...

Traded in the following today:

:360: Alice: Madness Returns $25
:360: Dungeon Siege 3 $27

I updated the wiki

Edit: hmmm anyone care to share the UBB code for the xbox 360?
