I had the same problem with that Westbury MicroCenter. So what I did was went to the Best Buy in Westbury and they didn't match the offer with a gift card but they took $50 off the elite price for me which was even better.
How much hell did you have to raise to get them to do this? It sounds like nearly none, but when I attempted it at a local Best Buy they offered me a $50 gift card which of course was impossible to use on the purchase of the console. This was after having to look up their price matching policy myself and stand around for ten minutes waiting for the ass. manager, who abandoned me on the way to the laptop (probably to sell a protection plan to some rube). I was told they don't normally match gift card offers but would make an exception. I guess this was to placate me but they underestimated my utter disdain for their horrible retail chain so I walked away. Why wouldn't I just take MicroCenter up on their offer, especially since I have had nothing but pleasant experiences in their store and every time I walk into BB I expect the man sitting there to welcome me with a swift kick in the crotch. There's a reason I avoid that festering boil of a company and a $50 gift card just means I would have to go back to them sometime in the future. No thanks.
if it says 12.1A, circa 2008-09, 65nm GPU / 65nm CPU / 80nm eDRAM, it's a Jasper
This isn't on the box, is it? All I could get was the manufacture date near the barcode, which was 2009-07-11 - only two months ago so it more than likely is a Jasper, correct? I haven't been paying attention to how MS has been building these things, just that the latest and greatest is what I want. I think.
Maybe I don't really need a Burnout Paradise machine after all.
