Microsoft bans accounts for downloading CoD4 beta.

Boo fucking Hoo. Sounds like someone has sand in thier vagina.

If you got caught, stop your bitching. It was FREE beta for people whom legitimately signed up. Seeing that this is a BETA version, glitches ARE expected hence the BETA (there's that word again) status.

Suck it up like a man & count your blessings that it's only a 24hr ban and not a permanent ban. People who abuse the system should be dealt with accordingly as I PAY to use XBL service. Don't fault the folks at Activision/MS for playing by the rules becuase you didn't :shame:
Or it could just be that they'll ban whatever's easily proven. If they banned someone for one report of racism or profanity then the whole service would cease to exist.
Or alternatively they could investigate these claims and actually ban people for being racist, but of course that would require some effort and provides little gain fo MS so why should they bother.

I have no problem with the 24hr ban, but please don't come the holier than thou "you broke the TOS" crap, people are doing that every day. If it suits MS to do something they will, if not they couldn't care less.

Some effort?

Are you kidding me? If they investigated EVERY claim of racism and profanity the service would have to cost $50 a DAY just to employ an army of investigators. They do have people that will investigate these claims but its just not feasible to investigate every claim. Now, if there's multiple complaints coming in about the same person over and over again they will investigate and ban them accordingly.

Wait so can anyone actually confirm this?

I remember there being an old "CoD4 you've been banned" picture that was used to justify something similar even though the picture was a week old and related to something else.

I know for a fact that they fixed the exploit a couple days ago.
Some effort?
Interns who would like to play games all day are hard to come by.

I think from the "sounds like someone has sand in their vagina" comment I'm justified in assuming you're adressing this post at me... which makes me wonder where you get your justification for assuming I was banned, or that I took advantage of this "exploit", or that having myself inconvenienced (which I haven't been, in the slightest) has anything to do with why I'm pissed off.

And if you aren't adressing it at me, then where do you get your justification assuming those who were banned are complaining?

Either way your post is awfully presumptuous...

Well if you weren't effected you're sure as hell acting like a five year old girl who was told she couldn't have a new Barbie over it.

Did you get into your mom's estrogen again? We told you, just because they look like M&Ms doesn't mean you should eat them. Go get your tits milked and come back here tomorrow.

At the very least, it should of been a weeks ban. I would of gave them a month ban though. 24 hours is nothing unless you have no life and stay home to play XBL all day long. Why should people get codes for doing shit when others got them the legit, and in a way, harder way.
So M$ / CoD4 devs screw up and they decide to "punish" people in response?

I agree with Pyro; bull fucking shit.
Taking advantage of a service and commiting a violation of the ToS? And then only getting a weak ass 24 hours ban?

Bullfucking shit.

Wait, what? So if you "screw up" and leave your door unlocked one day you won't be pissed if someone breaks in and steals all your stuff? You'll just say "oh well, it's my own fault, hey enjoy my stuff!" I don't think so.

The fact that they weren't able to make it technically impossible in every way for unauthorized people to get in somehow gives you carte blanche to do whatever you want to do, knowing full well that you're not supposed to? Then consequences come and you cry that it's not your fault? Did that work when you were five? Because it doesn't work in the real world.

Regardless of wether or not you yourself tried it & got banned, you have ZERO reason to bitch. The software is NOT a final release and is still in (here's the keyword..) development. Meaning it's not done. Meaning you have no argument as it is not a finished product or that you even freaking paid for it in that manner.

Did I want to try the beta? Sure, you can bet your ass I did. Am I whining like a 4 year old who's icecream fell on the floor? No. There are plenty of other games and things to be doing until release day.

Per Merriam Webster
"a nearly complete prototype of a product (as software) "

Translation: It's not fucking done yet. There will most likely BE bugs hence why the game has not 'gone gold' yet.

If you ask me, the people who shared their beta token should be premenantly removed from said beta. 24 hours is lame.

A punishment of being permanently removed from the beta I would definitely support. I don't think a permanent ban from Live itself fits the crime, though.

Bingo. It reminds me of that skit from Red vs. Blue where they explained the internet.

"Does anyone have the new Creed CD?"

"I do."

"GIVE IT TO ME... RIGHT NOW!!"

"Give it to you? Why should I give it to you?"

"YOU'RE NOT GIVING IT TO ME FAST ENOUGH! GIVE IT FASTER!"

"Wait a minute, that's illegal!"

"No it's not. I don't want it to be, therefor it isn't!"

That pretty much sums up all these X-Box exploits people take advanage of. You get what you deserve.

I have no problem with sharing. The beta is free, so it's not like they're losing money. In fact, those 23,000 people that got in "illegally" will probably buy the game now that they've had a taste of it.

I didn't share my token personally, but I wouldn't have a problem with doing so for a friend.

Also, some of you guys need to ease up a bit (after all, anyone who applied got a code, so it wasn't exactly "limited").

the whole point of an beta is to have a controlled population to make sure everything is working as it should network wise and gameplay wise and even more wise...
