Microsoft E3 2012 Discussion
Already been confirmed now. Watch Dogs is for PS3 and Xbox and PC. No word on Wii U.

http://www.examiner.com/article/ubis...ith-watch-dogs
It was demo'd on a high end PC... so I wonder how much of a drop we'll see on the console versions. I mean, for example, Crysis 2 on consoles was a significant drop on consoles compared to a high end PC.:whistle2:k

Watch Dogs looks absolutely insane. When the driver died and her boyfriend / husband was crying it made me feel pretty sad!

Tomb Raider and Splinter Cell both looked good to me, although I'm not as picky as some of you. Halo 4 and Gears looked cool as well but I have yet to see any real gameplay footage, so I can't really make a for sure decision.

I need to watch Ubisofts conference now, I really want to see the new Rayman, Far Cry and whatever else they've got.

I thought the MS conference was pretty forgettable but I honestly wasnt expecting much either. The Halo 4 footage looked great and I will definitely be buying that on or near release, and the Splinter Cell footage looked pretty good too. The rest of the stuff was pretty bad (Internet Explorer on 360 who cares?) but I had low expectations overall from the MS conference and E3 as a whole. It's really not what it used to be.
Wow looking at Halo 4, the HUD does remind me a lot of Metroid Prime which is a good thing.

I think I'm actually interested in this game now.

Bioshock Infinite, GTA 5, and MGS: Rising are the other three games left for the 360 (for me), after that it would be nice to get some 720 news.
Funny, I thought the same thing about Halo 4 myself, especially when they went to the thermal vision.
Well I hope Capcom announces something besides RE 6 DLC D=
If anything they should announce zack and wiki 2 for wii u. the first game was so awesome. I know, this is a MS thread. :p
RE6 was the only Japanese game shown so far.

That's crazy.
Considering that the four conferences today were held by Western companies, not really (I'm assuming we're not counting the Konami thing).

never heard of it :cold:

Wasn't MG5R-R shown?

Ubi, MS, and EA are all US company, so it is normal they dont have any Japanese. Sony is probably saving it for Tokyo Game Show.

Pretty sure Ubisoft is French...who knew right.

This is why MS does all the stuff we hate. The general public eat this up.

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/plugged...mart-smartglass-stays-mum-xbox-195703731.html

The part that make me cringe.

"But despite showing off flashy demos of big-name upcoming releases like Halo 4, Madden, and Call of Duty, the best of the buzz went to a brand-new system that promises — yet again — to change the way you interact with your TV."

Really? Where was this buzz exactly? It was not in the conference room or on the chat boards.

I just mean MS and Sony.
They've never shown only one Japanese game between them before.

yes, because 50 people on a messageboard is the pulse of the buying public...

the following are only excerpts:

Cookie Monster wants a snack. Sure, he could have a handful of you-know-whats, but even a Muppet has to watch his waistline. So he decides to grab something healthful. “Maybe if me jump up and down, me can shake fruit out of this tree,” the fuzzy blue monster says to his television viewers. “Okay. Help me jump!”

Muppets have always broken the fourth wall. But for the first time, Cookie can actually tell if kids are responding. When they do, his googly eyes shake wildly and leaves fall from the tree. “Oh boy, oh boy,” Cookie cheers. If the child refuses to budge, he invites his fuchsia friend Telly on-screen to do the jumping instead.

This is Kinect Sesame Street TV, a fully interactive version of the award-winning educational program that goes on sale exclusively for Microsoft’s Xbox game console in September.

Parents can buy the disc wherever videogames are sold, except to Microsoft this is not a videogame—it’s a TV show you can play. Also on the disc is a version of “Elmo’s World” that films you with the Kinect camera and puts you on-screen with Elmo in real time. It’s fun for kids, but this is a serious salvo in the fight with Sony, Apple, Google and a dozen other players to control your family television.

This spring, for the first time, subscribers to Xbox’s Live online service in the U.S. spent more time consuming video and music than multiplayer games. Globally, the hours spent on Xbox Live have grown 30% year over year, including gaming and entertainment, while video consumption has risen 140%.

In some ways the Xbox is emerging as an alternative for those who want to cut the cable cord. On-demand movies and TV? Xbox can stream more than 200,000 high-definition titles. Premium channels? Game of Thrones rages on via HBO Go on Xbox. Live sports? Xbox has ESPN, every regular-season Major League Baseball game and Ultimate Fighting.

In effect, the Xbox is Microsoft’s profitable Trojan Horse. The console’s latest version, the Xbox 360, is the top seller in the U.S. Worldwide, since the 360 debuted in November 2005, customers have snapped up 67 million units, generating $56 billion at retail. Its sales still outgrow those of all other rivals.

Plenty of companies do sell rival boxes to deliver online video to the TV: Cisco, Google, Apple, TiVo, Sony, Roku. But none of them does what Xbox can do. Because it was born to play games, has the hands-free Kinect controller and sports a hefty hard drive, the Xbox is the strongest player in interactive television. Forrester analyst James McQuivey says that only about half of the people who rush out to get Net-connected TVs even bother to connect them to the Internet at all. In fact, Ballmer is working to persuade the big pay-TV players—Comcast and Verizon are already Xbox partners—to allow their customers the choice of an Xbox over a cable set-top.

In level two of Living Room domination, you come out of hiding and start blowing things up. At the annual E3 videogame industry trade show on June 4 Microsoft made a series of announcements designed to widen its lead in the entertainment space, such as 24/7 live programming from all ESPN channels (it used to be only selected events and highlights), including Monday Night Football; Xbox SmartGlass, a technology that extends the Xbox experience to computers, phones and tablets; and a Nike interactive workout program.

Nike threw its weight behind Xbox after seeing the hands-free capabilities of the Kinect camera in action. The new “Nike+ Kinect Training” product watches users while they perform a series of exercises and analyzes their movements. If it notices you’re struggling with push-ups, it might add more arm exercises to the workout. If it sees you have a bum knee, it might reduce the number of jumping jacks and squats. “Kinect gives us the ability to tailor the program for different people,” says Stefan Olander, vice president of digital sport for Nike.

After only a decade, Microsoft, a software company, has built a stronger hardware product than anyone else has in the space. And a new console, nicknamed Xbox 720, is expected to be unveiled next year with lots of media-centric features. If the Xbox division keeps growing as it has, it will account for far more than the 7% of Microsoft it does today.

I don't know why people are complaining about smartglass. It seems like it could be a great idea, depending on what game/movie/tv creators make of it. It's not like anyone is forcing you to use it. IF you don't think you'll use it then don't use it.

I think people are skeptical because stuff like this (add-ons) are historically giant failures. The problem is the fractured audience - if you were making a game you probably want to appeal to the most people as possible. If you could up the quality of your game by 0.5 on Metacritic (which would likely translate into more sales) or use those same resources to add something to your game that uses Smart Glass which would you choose?

The most fascinating part of those graphs for me is the % of paid xbl gold subscribers and what that accounts for in terms of revenue to the xbox division at MS. It always seems to me like Xbox doesn't really try all _that_ hard to bring people in to xbl gold (maybe at least in comparison to how hard Sony has been trying lately), but I can't imagine how useless my Xbox would feel _without_ xbl gold.

For a game like watch dogs, smart glass could do both. Obviously at this point nobody knows how well or how poor it would work, but I can't help think of how cool it would be to do hacking menus on your cell phone or tablet like the lead character seems to do.

Obviously it's all a big guess right now. Who knows ,maybe I would find it useless and not even bother.

Really looking forward to the new Splinter Cell, but honestly, if they had the balls to replace Michael Ironside, they should have just killed off/retired Sam Fisher and went with a new agent. That thought may sound blasphemous, but it's not going to feel like Sam anyway. The voice just sounded so much younger, and could be any of Hollywood's young, "tough guy" actors.

I'm so thankful that Rockstar came to their senses and recognized this by bringing back James McCaffrey for Max Payne 3. In games like this where you care about the main character, the character just becomes that person. I feel like even with great gameplay, Blacklist is just going to feel a little generic due to this.

I am not sure what you are getting all huffy about. My comment and link to the story was basically saying the same thing but you decided to write a thesis about it. MS makes its money on crap like this because the general public sees worth in it. People on this site could really care less about most of that stuff and just want to play games. Your snarky "yes, because 50 people on a messageboard is the pulse of the buying public..." is just a douche-bag comment.

And you are probably the type of person that would rather turn of a video games score than listen to it and enjoy it. Michael Ironside is Sam Fisher. He's what made the character who he is through what 5 games? So if this game is a continuity of the series and Sam is getting older then there is no reason to change the main characters voice to a younger person. I'm hoping the internet throws up a big enough shit storm that forces Ubisoft to wise up and pay the man.

stealthy play is what made Splinter Cell. not Michael Ironside. If I wanted Michael Ironside, I would watch Total Recall or Starship Troopers.

a douche-bag comment comes from a person who has nothing better than to complain about anything and everything. the thing hasn't even come out yet and you're crying about it.

if it comes out and it fails, then you have every right to complain. but complaining just to complain is stupid

after seeing stuff like the ZombiU demo where the guy is punching up codes on his touchscreen while the main screen is showing Zombies coming to kill him was kind of neat. I'm not saying I'm a big proponent of SmartGlass. we haven't seen any product yet so it's not time to praise or criticize it. But the potential is cool.

and the cool crossplatform thing is... now games are easy to port between the Wii U and the 360 and next Xbox. the hardest part is imagining the game design. porting code is easy.

Well I guess the reason (good or bad) is that they needed a person to do mo-cap work for the game.
I disappointed thy are not taking any risk as far as the new franchise go. I do understand that they are not focusing on games but on making the box an entertainment devices but damn.

I just hope that they don't lose sight on gamers as they try to convince mothers to use it to watch their soaps.
At this point I'd rather the resources be put into new franchises for the next Xbox.

I posted something like that earlier in the thread so I already knew their supposed reasoning.

It is still such a bullshit reason and it logically makes zero sense. They just didn't want to pay Ironside anymore. If they are going to use someone younger, why not create a whole new character? Sam Fisher runs the new Fourth Echelon anyway.

Watch_Dogs, one of the hot new IPs getting a ton of buzz at E3 for the 360 (and the next Xbox as well???) is rumored to be using Xbox SmartGlass:

"Ubisoft's 'next-gen' stunner Watch Dogs is seemingly set to support Xbox SmartGlass after it showed off tablet features in a behind closed doors presentation."
Thank god i run a fairly successful video production company for the last 10 years. I wish I could tell my clients that I don't upgrade because a new cycle of cameras are coming out.
That legitimately makes no sense.

CEO Sood "what are you guys working on?"

Game maker "well, our main focus is to put our resources into the next Xbox, but we're still putting out some quality games this year like assassins creed 3 and halo 4"

Sood "silence! I want 5 new IPs now!"

GM "but sir, we're working on that for the next console. Wouldn't you rather us learn the new unreal engine and..."

Sood "no! I upgrade cameras or something like that so just do as I say. PS I always bitch about whiney gamers so I see the irony here!

GM "I quit"

I'm probably the only guy who liked last year's E3, yet this showing from Xbox was far and way an improvement (I think leaving Kudo Tsunoda out was a giant plus; something about him rubs me the wrong way).

I thought they did a great job showcasing what you can do with the Xbox yet they kept going back to games to show they didn't forget about them. Going from trailer to trailer from time to time kept my attention and didn't drag the pace like Nintendo's conference did.

I'm the type who doesn't watch online trailers so I always wait for E3 or game commercials to see upcoming games in motion on my TV screen which is twice the size of the laptop monitor I use. Aside from Madden (no love for Joe Montana?) and that castle crashers game, everything they showed looked good. It was also refreshing to see a lack of games involving "Skittles" or other cutesy game themes for a change.

BTW, I noticed this year's conference started with Halo and ended with Call of Duty. Last year's started with Call of Duty and ended with Halo.

If I were more of a tech junkie or a sports fan, I would have had more interest in the apps. I'm confused over Xbox Music though. What makes it different from Zune Music? Anyway, I considered the apps a "it's nice to have if you want it" portion of the show.

Note for the next conference: Don't watch it on a computer when your XBox is on. When the guy was demonstrating the Kinect in Spanish, my Xbox navigated to Bing and tried to start the ESPN app.

And hate all you want on Usher, but the Dance Central segment was pretty good. What better way to debut a music album and a game than by announcing both at once. Unlike Flo Rida's segment during Ubisoft's presentation, this one actually showed the videogame footage in sync with Usher's movements so you know what to expect when Dance Central 3 comes out. And it will be a good game since Harmonix does not know how to make crap.

Summary: B+

I don't know if they "won" E3 (Ubisoft had a stronger show and "won" IMO), but I think this was on par with Sony's conference and stronger than Nintendo's offering this year.

they had a couple booths with carpet and a booth with hardwood floors. i'll post up some vids when i've had time to sort them out.

darren williams, and a couple other pros were there.

So any mention of a Lego Batman 2 demo going up on XBL? The 3DS has it right now and I'm hoping to get it for the 360. Stupid Nintendo limiting the plays to 30...

The game sounds great, but I just can't imagine that many people are going to be able to play it in their house. I know I'd balk at a basketball being dribbled inside mine. LOL.

it does comes with a ball. keep this ball (clean) in the house.

take the playing ball (dirty) to the courts.

the only thing I'd worry about is broken furniture but most importantly, broken TV.

I wasn't concerned about smudges. More that everyone else in the house would be incredibly irritated by me dribbling a basketball in the living room. As well as the potential for broken everything, especially since I'm not Jordan. LOL. I just can't see too many people buying this game because it's completely impractical for 99% of people out there. At least I would think so. But, yeah, I think it looks fun and I'd like to try it somewhere else. :)
