If I were to buy the Microsoft Office 2007 package with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc, does anyone know how many computers I can install it on? Is it just one?

I can't provide an answer to your question, but if it is just one computer, I recommend OpenOffice as a solid, free alternative. Also, the latest Microsoft Word has just a terrible interface. The one before it is a lot easier to use.

Are you insane? Office '07's GUI is one of the best GUIs for any program ever created.

Open Office wishes it were nearly as good as Office '07.

Yup. Also, I know that there are Office '07 that have 3 licenses.

Actually, i prefer the Office 2003 GUI to the 2007 one. The 2003 GUI was fine as it was, then they went and changed every damn thing. I call it the "vistafication" of Office.

vistafication, ill agree with that. but like vista it is a more sleek presentation. once you get used to it its just as easy to use.

edit: oh yeah, im pretty sure its 3

I really don't like the tabbed options at the top. I just find it incredibly irritating. :whistle2:(

Me too,.

Why? It lays everything out in an extremely easy to read format and makes all kinds of functions that you may have not even known existed apparent.

Office was too deep for a menu bar, making it difficult to find things or even know what kind of stuff you could do. The Ribbon layout resolved that.

I never had a problem finding anything in 2003, 2007 on the other hand, i have. Microsoft went against most of it's own programming standards by removing the menu bar.

...How?

You realize that they also removed/hid the menu bar in IE7+ and in Vista's Explorer, don't you?

I think it's the layout within each tab. I just find it harder to find what I want. Of course, it could be due to familiarity, but it's just my preference, is all. :D

I did that windows feedback program and will be getting my free copy of office in the next couple weeks. I am hoping its a multi computer license, otherwise I will probably just ebay it

eBay makes sense, sir. I'd probably do the same. I acquired my present version, though. :whistle2:#

I have no idea about vista since i've chosen to skip this development cycle of windows. It's been standard practice for years for windows programs to have a menu bar, then MS went and broke their own standard.

God forbid they innovate and change their status quo.

This menu-bar standard of yours is imaginary.

I didn't like Office '07 until I got used to it. Now, I acknowledge it's superior. It sucks when I have to use '03 at school, it's just cumbersome now. With '07, now that I'm comfortable with it (which took a while), I can get things done much more quickly than with '03, especially in Excel (but also in Word).

Also, OneNote is awesome.

I, along with the publishers of both my VB and C# programming books are imagining things. It also isn't standard practice to include shortcut keys for said menu bar, also pulled that one out of the ol' poop chute.

That said, MS pretty much does whatever it wants anyway, but i wouldn't call Office 07's menu innovating.

They're common, but they're not in everything, and they're certainly not a requirement.

How is the ribbon interface not innovative?

It took a little bit to "learn" Office 2007, but once I did, I was set.

I think 2007 is much better than 2003.

You basically answered him correctly. With the Ribbon layout, I can get things done so much more efficiently it's incredible. One of MS's slogans is to increase productivity, and with Office 07, they definitely accomplished that. Then again, I was apart of the beta so I was able to learn and adjust to it sooner than others. Still, I felt from the get go that they had really done something marvelous, and it really does work out. Sheesh, now I sound like an MS fan boy.
